Anyone know how many SW Early Bird Checkins are sold per flight?

Usually we sit a little further back (don't know why) but we don't budge until those in front of us has had the chance to retrieve their things and the line starts moving. Of course like other's have said, if a person is meeting a connecting flight and has 10 minutes to get their; then I can at least understand their anxiousness to hightail it off the plane.

I've had connections to make, so would hope I'm not holding anyone up that does have one. BUT....I've also moved aside for a group that 'had' to get off the plane due to a very tight connection. Everyone moved for them so they could make their connection. But, as I walked past a restaurant very close to our gate, what did I see? Yep, that family, sitting down, ordering food. I suppose their connection time could have changed, but I doubt it....they hadn't had enough time to make it to that 'distant' gate.
Now I tend to be somewhat cynical when it comes to making connections.

Many years ago flying out of MCO the airline we were flying on would not preboard families traveling with small children, they said there were too many. Well we were traveling with I think a 5 year old a 2 year old. The 2 year old in a car seat to be exact!

Well, wouldnt you know it but the stewardess got nasty with us on the plane because we needed to sit- I told her we HAD asked to get on early as we knew it can take a couple extra minutes to install the car seat.

Otherwise I am in total agreement- let them move around as much as possible!

out of MCO I've seen it happen often on full flights on SWA where there are tons of kids. Not intending to open a can of worms but imo might be a nod to those who paid for EBIC and wound up with B assignments.

For those who need more time to get settled, a good strategy is (on SWA to pay for EBIC &) to head to the back of the plane where there is less 'traffic' early on during boarding process.

This is what is wrong with people.... it's not just about YOU (you being not you 3happydancers ). If everyone followed common courtesy, the plane would empty faster and with more efficiency. We try not to use the overhead baggage area (but that's us) and like you we do not get up until it is our turn to disembark. We do gather our belongings then wait. When it's our turn we are not holding up those behind us. I know not everyone can do it that easy. My husband and I try to carry very little. My iPad and entertain me for hours

That was not on southwest, pretty sure it was Air Tran, although not 100% certain. And it was where I did have an assigned seat prior to boarding, that I might add, we paid for so the kids were close to us!

Everyone is pushing for overhead space for carryons these days. Businessmen in suits will knock over little old ladies to get on first.

get the coats out of the overheads, that will free up space. I was on a United Flight a few winters ago BOS-ORD and the flight attendants were making announcements that no coats were to be in the overheads until all the bags were in first. Winter coats take up so much space and is my pet peeve.

How did we ever manage pre-911 when we were allowed 2 checked bags?

I solved our (2) winter coats taking up too much space by folding, then rolling each tightly, then using the "inside-out' pillow technique to squeeze them both into 1 disposable Disney shopping bag. Popped them right out upon landing (in blustery and so darned tired of the freakin snowstorms) in NY. Easy peasy mac n cheesey!

If my winter coat is my only piece of carry on in the over head I'm happy to make it smaller, but I'm leaving it. Its my carry on.

Us too, we try to carry light but we like to have at least an extra set of clothes, pj's and a bathing suit (just in case our luggage is detained or lost which has happened). Plus each of us has some device be it a tablet or computer and reading material. Of course when DD was little, I had a bag of "surprises to keep her amused plus a portable DVD player. Like you, we collect our things, make sure everything is zipped and tucked, ready to go when our turn comes!

Technically your coat is not a carry-on. Nor is it a personal item. Airlines don't consider a coat either item. So if the announcement is made the overhead space needs to be left for carry-ons, you coat has to come out.

Typically you can put your coat on top of the bags in the overhead. But you wouldn't want people to put their bags on top of your coat or shove it to the back. I always wait.
