Anyone know how many drinks you have to buy to justify refillable mug?

Kind of a weird question, but we're going for a 3 night trip to Disney. We may have a cup of coffee each morning and maybe a stray soda or iced tea here and there. Just wondering how long it would take to justify a refillable mug. :confused3 :hippie:

I don't know how much the fountain sodas cost at WDW because we have only ever done the ddp. But, I think that it's up to you to decide if the mug is worth it. When we went in Dec. I got one even though we were there for only three nights. I used it 4-5 times while we were there. To me it was worth it because I use it constantly at home. I drink a lot of tea and I didn't have a travel mug at home. I really wanted to get a Disney one, but the refillable one was actually cheaper than the ones sold in the shops! So I felt like I got a good deal.

I'm looking forward to getting one on our next trip, I love the new red ones!

I just looked at the resort menues and they do not say what a drink costs, but lets say it is 1.50 and the cup costs around $12... I guess it depends on how long you are staying!;)

I would venture to guess that a fountain drink is closer to $1.99.

Last time we went, we only bought 2 mugs (for 2 adults, 2 kids) and just filled them up and shared as needed.

I definitely think it is worth it if you are going to refill a few times a day.

I always look at it like $12.99 is a pretty reasonable price for a souvenir. I'm sitting at my computer drinking from my chunky red-handled Contemporary mug circa 2002. I've more than gotten my money's worth from this mug.

You can get any beverage at the resort except alcohol ones. I drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning and maybe depending on my day, I may have one late morning. Plus, I take the mug with me to the parks and get ice in it. Any cart, CS place will be happy to give you ice and ice and water if you ask..It was a great help to me..plus, I would add my Crystal Light and I had a "free" drink in the park...I will buy a new one when I go in August..so, for me, it saved me money.

Eh, it's a little more restricted than that. Coffee, tea, soda, water, frozen Coke if the location offers them, sometimes apple juice... not milk, not orange juice. For the most part, beverages that are primarily water*-based and created/regenerated at the resort.

*Carbonated water = water

A fountain drink in the parks is $2 (something like $2.09). A mug costs $13. Your break even point will be when you get that seventh drink. For a three day trip, you'd have to have 2.33 drinks per day to hit your break even point.

That's just to break even. Also factor in if you will drink more than that because then you are actually saving money. And factor in that you've bought a souvenir.

When we were there in September, because it was so darn hot, we were at the pool area most of the afternoon. We went into the food court maybe four or so times to fill it up with juice or soda...or frozen slush as my husband loved that....So it also depends on the weather. I like my coffee in the morning and when we were at Pop Century, the apple juice was a nice change too..

I think the mug really encourages you to stay hydrated because you tend to drink much more. This is very important.

The biggest thing I would consider is where you are staying. We have purchesed the mugs all four times we went. The two stays at all-stars and one at pop were worth the money because you walk past the drinks every time you go to get a bus.

The time we stayed at Carribean Beach it was kind of a waste because we get the bus nowhere near the pop machines.

We will be at all-star sports in June and just the coffee alone makes it worth my while! Plus, you have a mug to use forever!

Keep in mind they are only good in the resorts! (but if you carry a bag - you get your morning drink, drink it on the bus to the resort, then on the way back thru the resort - its an easy stop to fill the mug - (I often forgot to bring the mugs, and it was a long walk from our room to the food court)

also - we've stayed at Pop a few times - they do have the frozen sodas, but they often shut them down! (I think they do this so they dont overheat? I know our Target often has problems from time to time during the day they close down - one side or the other) so we'd walk all the way to the food court for a frozen blue drink to see it covered in plastic!

Do they have the frozen slush at all the resorts? I'm staying at POFQ and this sounds yummy!

Wow- awesome, thank you! We may get them for the souvenir factor alone, but that information is very helpful for an economic standpoint. :hippie:

This is sooo true! We stayed at Pop and loved the convenience...next trip AKL and SSR. ....food courts were not even close to bus stop...we never used them!
We were on the DxDP and they came with plan.

I am pretty sure a soda at WDW is over 2 dollars and I think the mug is something like 12..so 6 sodas/drinks? I dunno.

I always buy one anyway, just because. Especially if the mug is different from the last one, I have to buy it. Someone else said it too, I think the refill mugs are cheaper than suvenir type mugs in the shops.

I waitress and at my work, if I keep a drink around in one of their cups, it always gets dumped by someone thinking they are cleaning up. So I bring a mug of my own and use it there.

I have a weird obsession with travel mugs anyway, not just WDW. I buy them at Dunkin Donuts whenever a new one comes out too.

So, to answer your question, I suppose if you were to buy more than 6 drinks..then you would make your money back. Also, if you were to buy it, just to have it, like a suvenir, then it is also worth it.

Definitely consider sharing mugs!

DM and I are staying at WDW for 9 days in May. Even if we each have only one drink a day from the mug, that's a total of 18... each soda by itself is about 2 bucks so that's a total of... $36 bucks. We'll save over $20 by buying a mug plus end up with an extra souvenir- and that's only 1 drink/person/day!

They will really give you ice in your mugs at CS places?? That's great, because DH and I bring bottles of water with us, but I'd love to have ice for when the Florida heat takes its toll on our Dasanis! :)
