Anyone in here decorate cakes?

In case you haven't seen Food Network's previews... On Sunday, June 1st at 8pm (EST) Food Network Challenge is doing Disney Pixar Cakes. :sulley:

Four of the nation's top cake designers compete to make cakes that represent some of Pixar's most famous characters. Toy Story, Cars, Ratatouille, Monsters Inc. are just four of the films from which the decorators can choose. With $10,000 on the line, the four competitors have to create 3-foot cakes in just 7 hours.

Hi everyone ! havent been in here in a while. I have so many cakes to catch up on! I got a few glimpses of cakes scrolling my way down. I am so many pages behind now.

I just finished up a Indiana Jones cake today for my sister for her 17th. If I violate the pic sizes or anything LMK . I have forgotten how to post pics . hmmm let me see if I can remember..

We did a Mayan pyramid cake stacking different size squares and then we iced it and then texturized it. I would like to have used some fondant instead but we were low and short on time so we made some details , vines , leaves , etc with what fondant we had.

Everything is edible except for Indy and his son. We made the faces for the statues with fondant pressed into a doll face mold then painted with food coloring. What sticky mess! My mom just got back from NY with fondant paint! I cant wait to try it. My next cake will be Cinderella castle . I will try the special paint on it. I had no idea what regular food coloring did when painted onto fondant. Our vines were falling apart.

Oh one more thing . Tomorrow when my sister gets here I have a little mini glow stick ( about a half inch) that I am going to activate and stick just below the face statue thats at the top of the pyramid . It will light the face up all green and glowy. I will take a new pic of it then.

Here's my latest. A friend of mine who's a teacher at my kids' school asked me to make a baby shower cake for her teaching partner. I was given very little direction and could pretty much do what I wanted. The expectant mother does not know the sex of the baby... so this what I came up with. They had a surprise party for her yesterday at school.

Here's a close-up of the "Animal Friends"

Okay- I am joining this thread so I can get some support.:lovestruc
I am currently working on a StormTrooper cake and a bazillion stormtrooper cupcakes for my DS's b-day party. I am not really a decorator but I always wanted to be one. Please send me some pixie dust and cake batter so it comes out great!:worship:

Always good to see you Star...even though it isn't nearly enough *cough cough*

Future, try http://www.cakecentral.com - It is a great resource!

I did a cake last night for a big murder mystery dinner fundraiser that was beach themed called "How to slay a castaway".

This was a fun cake to do. I put a revolver on the crashed boat, a knife through a palm tree, a spilled bottle of poison, a little dude hiding in a bush with a spear ( I somehow missed him in the pics).

Put it on a revolving cake stand so everyone could see all around it. The volcano was made of foam and hollowed out so we could put a container of dry ice inside and have it smoke. We ended up not being able to find any! Grrr! Oh well. ;)

This cake is awesome! How long did this take you? My crappy ones take 2 days.. I love all the details

Nice Indy cake!

I'm busy this weekend, I am doing a Beehive cake for my grandmother (she's turning 89!) and I have a graduation sheet cake to do (I'd much rather do a stacked cake) for our schools graduation. So, I'm making the cap and diploma this weekend. And I'm making stars and putting them on wires to put in the cake as well, should be cute. I got the idea from a cake on cakecentral.com.

Here is my beehive Cake. Its not leaning, Its just the way I took the picture, lol.

Great cake!! :)

Cute cake Starzone!

Thanks for your kind replies! My mother is a Home Economics university graduate, and is truly the best cook I have ever met. She genuinely loves the art (and I really think it is an art and takes a great deal of skill!), and has made some delicious and fabulous cakes. My favorite is her basic carot cake with cream cheese icing...yum! I'll take a pic of her next one.

awe you guys do such a great job. I'm making my mom a Disney-ish cake for her birthday next weekend. I hope it comes out half as good as your guys. Keep the pictures coming!

Hi gals!! Boy did I have a busy weekend. I made 4 cakes which altogether could feed over 300 people! Here are some pics with descriptions!
this was for our Homeschool Organization's promotion ceremony. I made this one and the another exactly like it. I donated the cakes. The cake is Vanilla, and the icing is my special butter cream.

I know I've seen those 3D car cake pans. Could you start with one of those? Depending on how many servings you would need, you could always put it on top of a sheet cake decorated like grass or sand or whatever...

Well, how many people does it need to feed?

You're going to need to stack several cakes and carve it in a general dune buggy shape and then add the details by molding the fondant and adding details.

If it needs to feed a small amount of people, stack 1/2 sheets cut in half. If it needs to feed more, stack full 1/2 sheets. Buy a big long serrated carving knife and get cutting.

Cut very slowly a bit at a time. You can take more off but it is tough to put it back on.

or ya, buy a pan! :p

Scarlett, where have you been. I've been missing you here. ;)

Not too many, they have their wedding cake there as well, so she just wants it as a gift to the groom from the bride:)

Plus DH and I ran off to Vegas for Memorial Day weekend! Wooo! Didn't win anything though...lol

If you go to google images and google "car cake" you'll get a lot of ideas to start you off :) Some are very basic and others are truly amazing.
