Anyone in here decorate cakes?

Oooh I like the Turkey. Turkey hunting is big around here too. Turkey Federation stickers everywhere you go. :p I also love the Candy Land cake. That is really cool and one of the best I've seen.

Here is one of my cakes from this weekend. I still have a High School Musical cake to do. The baby is a boy so the tractor driver is in a blue diaper. ;)
The shower is all John Deere/Farm themed so I made the cake to match. All fondant figures. Piping gel for the mud and pond water.

OMG. That's the cutest cake I've ever seen.

I love that tractor cake! That baby and the piggies are adorable!

I lurk here(I bake, but don't decorate cakes-though you all have inspired me to take a class some day..) and had to post to say how adorable that farm/tractor cake is!!! Love it!

Your cake is on the front of Cake Central today! You did a great job, I love it!

Thanks guys. I thought the farm cake really turned out cute. Hard to see but the little pig had mud dripping off his ear. It was so stinking cute.

Here is the High School Musical cake. They wanted something simple and didn't want to spend much more than $40 so I did this. I thought it turned out cute.

I should have done the character names in black but I was running out of time and it was a last minute idea so I just did white.

I am thinking about attempting a 3-D sculpted cake.

A co-worker has commissioned me to do the cake for her upcoming family reunion. She gave me pictures to copy from and wants me to do a replica of their "tan van" that they drove when she was a kid. She and her family have fond memories of this van.

Looking at the pictures, and knowing that a van is basically a "boxy" kind of shape it shouldn't be too too hard, provided I put enough support in it.

The van has a horizontal white stripe around the middle. If I did a double layer of fondant, so that the windows and the white strip would look cut out, and the tan part being the top layer of fondant, what can I use to keep the bottom strip of fondant secure so that it doesn't slip down.

I am going to use a grey fondant or gum paste brushed with pearl dust for the chrome pieces, and a piece of spaghetti for the radio antenna.

I am still thinking about what to use for the windows......if anyone has any suggestions, bring 'em on.

I agree wholeheartedly!! Aside from the clustered bit in the center, it's really a lovely cake! But I feel your pain. I hate it when a cake doesn't come out the way I had hoped that it would!

DH and I have lived in our house now for almost 5 years and we are just NOW deciding how to decorate...:rotfl: We have no storage for anything and all of my cake crap has slowly taken over the house! So DH is going to put in some cabinets in our "new" dining room (we're flip-flopping some rooms around because the way things are now just doesn't make sense or work for us). By putting the cabinets in there (it is connected to the kitchen), it will free up cabinet space in the kitchen so that I can finally organize my cake stuff!! :cool1: Maybe then I'll be able to do more caking! It's going to be a lot of hard work the next few months, but it'll be soooooooooooo worth it in the end!

Love all the cakes everyone!! LOVE the CandyLand themed cake!! Way too cute!!

WOW! That Candyland cake is awesome!
Of course, they're all beautiful, but that one really "takes the cake!"

Thanks so much!!

Nice cakes everyone! My daughter (she's 11) wants me to teach her how to decorate this summer, so that is what we are working on....I am teaching her today how to do a gumpaste/fondant bow. She is making my mil's birthday cake and she wants to do polka dots. She made all the loops and I showed her how to do a bit of a fancy ribbon. We are waiting for the stuff to dry and then she'll put them together. Problem is that its 90 degrees and humid.

I just let my eldest DD help out on a cake I did and she loved it. I think once she is older, she's 8 now, that we will take the Wilton class together even though I've already taken it.

This one is for my Father in law that likes racing:

This is for my husband that hunts turkeys. He missed quite a few so I did a FBCT of a turkey and put a bullseye on it, lol.

Thanks! I love, love, love the farm cake! Your details are amazing.

I want to do my first FBCT for a cake that I need by Friday morning. How far in advance can I do the transfer? I was hoping to be able to do it Wednesday. TIA.

I've done a FBCT about 5 days in advance before. You'll be fine! Great cakes:)

I haven't figure out how to multi quote a message yet, lol.

Thanks! Maybe I'll do it tomorrow then. I am bit perplexed by the directions, but I think once I am actually doing it will click.

You might remember me from awhile back...I was looking for frosting help. MosMom and a few others helped and I used the buttercream from Wilton. It was perfect. This is one of the finished cooked, which went with a bunch of other ones in a brushed silver flower bucket. they were the centerpieces at my wedding.
Thanks, ladies!

I just applied to be a Wilton instructor. Wish me luck!

Good luck MrsKreamer! I was asked yesterday if I would be interested, but I'm too far away to drive down a couple of times per week (and with gas prices....)

So, I purchase all 3 of sugarshacks dvd's. The first time I made her icing, I realized I screwed it up. So, I made it again (only using 1/2 shortening 1/2 butter) and it came out great! Her smoothing techniques are really nice!!
Here is a drop flower cake I did using her techniques:

And here are some teddy bears I did for my nieces cake this weekend:
