Anyone in here decorate cakes?

Sorry I've been out-crazy work. CRAZY!

vettechick, I LOVE it! How did you get that shape, or did I miss that convo already? Babies are like moths, drawn to the flame..:scared1:

Zandy, thanks for the heads up. Some of our folks here are thinking about it...DO IT DO IT!

Thanks for the compliements Disneynut, your cake looks good. The first time I stacked one on columns for class (like yours), I was SURE it would fall

Hadley, I have no experience with latex or silicone molding, but with the internetterwebs the way they are, I am sure there has to be something...ladies?

I have a plain three tier tomorrow, all vanilla & buttercream, 6/8/10 stacked with only a light shell border (they are putting flowers on themselves) so I will try to get a pic but it's gonna be boring for ya'll to see :rolleyes1

Hope everyone has a good week-end! :goodvibes

Ok so here is the minnie mouse cake I did for my cousin's 6th birthday party.
I had to use the "Animal Crackers" pan

And I carved and iced it to look like this

I almost died when one of the 12' rounds cracked!

But everything turned out great and here is the final cake

Nice finish, MrsKreamer!

Disneynut, took me a minute but is that a cupcake cake? Really smooth finish! Did you pipe the logo or is it an edible image?

Any way you cut it, it looks great!

Yes, its a cupcake cake. I did a frozen buttercream transfer:) Thanks!

I just found this thread, and I love looking at all these beautiful cakes! The only ones I do are for family members, but I enjoy the little decorating I actually do. I haven't had any training, but it's fun! I'm getting some great ideas from all of you!

Here's the cake I made for my daughter's 6th birthday in November. We used the figures from Cinderella's castle that she bought in WDW last summer! I thought it turned out pretty well.

Oh cake wizards, I need your help! I lurk and admire your work and I have a ? for you ladies! I am making cookie pops as part of my wedding centerpiece. I need a frosting recipe (or store bought, if you know of one) that dries firm enough to sandwich two cookies together with a popsicle stick in the middle. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated! I don't want to make 150 of these things to watch them fall apart!

My first stacked cake and I need more practice. I didn't center correctly. And I was a bit overtired. This is a donated cake.

Its for a Music Festival at school:)

Disneynut, is that molded chocolate notes? Adorable! The one on top is a monster, how'd ya do that?

I had to make royal icing cake dummies on styrofoam today. It went very badly! :sad2: But I'll keep soldiering on, because we're learning! :thumbsup2

I totally can't see the top note. I kind of see it but I can't really see detail. I didn't know it was there until I saw Star say something. Very cool.

I just got a call tonight for a grad party in a little over a week for 300 people. I took it. Yes, I'm out of my mind. I have another cake due the same day for a baby shower for about 35 people. Just going to do a 10" round buttercream for that one. ACK!

I got candy molds on Monday and melted milk chocolate candy melts in them.

For the top note, I printed out one of those things (treble clef???, I don't know, lol) and put wax paper over it. I went over it with milk chocolate then I put a lollipop stick in to "glue" it into place, then stuck it in the cake:)

I haven't done dummies yet, I want to....when you are done doing them, post advice, lol:)

Lovely roses! I love the border too!

I would recommend Royal Icing. It dries pretty hard, but stays soft enough to eat on a cookie. Did that make sense? LOL

:upsidedow Better you than me right now! ;) Good luck!!

Here's my latest. A friend of mine who's a teacher at my kids' school asked me to make a baby shower cake for her teaching partner. I was given very little direction and could pretty much do what I wanted. The expectant mother does not know the sex of the baby... so this what I came up with. They had a surprise party for her yesterday at school.

Here's a close-up of the "Animal Friends"

This was fun cake to do. The animals are MMF mixed with gum tex powder.

Awwww that is really cute.

Cute baby cake! I love the animals on the top!

So I'm making a red velvet graduation cake. Anyone have a good filling that goes with Red Velvet cake. I've never made this. I dont know whether to use a mix or get a recipe off the internet but I'll be experimenting this weekend. Any suggestions would be GREAT! :worship:
