Anyone in here decorate cakes?

I haven't been to the WDW parks in awhile so I can't help on the cookie cutters, I haven't seen them anywhere else. Maybe the Disney Store online? Or Amazon?

Here's the cake I delivered today; boy, was I nervous! They loved it though so I am a happy girl. There's tons of ruffles but they don't show up when the online pics are this small...

I've never taken a class, but this is a cake I decorated for my friend's birthday party today. He's in the national guard, if you're wondering about the camo.

I have to make a Minnie Mouse cake for next weekend and Wilton no longer makes the Minnie or Mickey pans....So I am going to try and transform the Animal Crackers pan into a Minnie face. I baked the cake and have a design of Minnie's face but I don't know where to start. Wish me luck!

Have you ever used the colorflow method? Most of my cakes, that have some sort of character(sp) on it, I use colorflow. It really not difficult, it just takes a little time depending on how many colors you use. Btw I have the Mickey pan, maybe we should start a borrowing club for pans.

I have a good friend who is co-owner of a cake and cookie business. They do pretty well, but both maintain full time jobs elsewhere, as well. Have to say that she loves it though :) I love it too, for I get all my goodies from her! LOL

Star...that is a beautiful cake. Well done!

Colette Peters was down at the Food & Wine Festival last year and I had no idea she would be there until it was too late to sign up. I will only be there on the first day so I doubt I'll catch her this year BUT if anyone else will be down there for F&WF this year, you might want to look into it and see if your visit will work if she or another decorator is there this year. I really wish I was able to see her presentation.

I just learned color flow and I am really not that into it.

Anywho, this is just a trial run, I won't start on her cake until Thursday maybe friday(it's for Saturday).

How does this look shape wise?

This is the cake on the left and the picture template I used on the right.

Oh and her ears will be bigger, even if I just have to build them up in frosting and I will atempt to make a fondant bow.

PS, can someone please post the MMF recipe please, the search function doesn't work that well, lol.

Minnie Mouse looks great!

Here's the basic MMF recipe I use:

16oz. bag of Marshmallows
2tbs. water
2 tsp. flavoring
2lbs. powdered sugar (you may not need a full two pounds)

IMPORTANT: Generously grease all utensils, bowls, etc. with Crisco before adding marshmallows or you will have a sticky mess on your hands:headache: Believe me, I speak from experience. :rotfl2:

I melt my marshmallows in the microwave and then transfer to my kitchenaid mixer. Some people like to knead the whole mess by hand.

Good luck.

Mary

Hey again! Thought I would post an update on my cake attempt. This was the inspiration for DD's first birthday cake...

Well I decided to go with pink instead of black for the messiness factor. And I went with a whipped cream frosting instead of regular to cut out some sugar.

Anyway, not as clean as hers, but I was really excited how it turned out!

Before we served it...

During (BTW, this is the second attempt. At her big party she grabbed the lit candle and started crying! That was all she wrote. :rotfl: )

After! Poor Mickey is short one ear...

Cake look great!!! My one year did the same thing at his party. I lit the candle and went to put the lighter down, and in that millisecond he grabbed the flame!

The cake is so cute and your DD is just beautiful. In case you didn't already know that!

Beautiful cake Stargrazer! I just got back from vacation and had to do my final cake for Course 3:

Hey everyone! Was lurking and loving everyones cakes! I have made quite a few cool cakes in the past so I have a little experience, but since I found this thread and everyone here is so knowledgable I thought I'd pose a question...I am going to make a "pool table" cake for a friends 60th bday next month and wondered if anyone had any creative ideas they would throw at me?

Thanks! It wasn't very hard and it turned out pretty decent. And I can't believe with 40 people standing around, no one warned us she was about to grab the candle. Although it wasn't long before 40 people were saying, put ice on it, put ice on it! :rotfl:

The cake is so cute and your DD is just beautiful. In case you didn't already know that!

Thank you! We think she's perfect :goodvibes but she's teething (her first tooth finally) so she's not the easiest child to be around lately. :scared1:

Hey...I was asking about a pool table cake before, but after browsing around on the cake central sight I want to make the sugar beer bottles instead, but I cannot for the life of me find a thread or forum that gives instructions! A lot of the comments just say "search the forums for sugar beer bottles" but when I do that the threads that were devoted to sugar bottles are empty....any suggestions? Or do any of you know how?

Nevermind, I finally found the instructions! But has anyone had any experience with the silicone or latex molding products?

I got an email from FamilyFun about the "Great Cake Contest" yesterday and wondered if anyone on this thread entered a photo. ???

http://family.go.com/contests/cake-recipes/

I've been thinking about it, but i haven't gotten around to writing up all of the instructions. I was going to enter my "monkey cake" that I posted earlier in the thread.

Mary.

Thanks for the MMF recipe. I made it tonight, and it was so easy!
