Anyone in here decorate cakes?

Oh and Stargrazer...that is beautiful!!! The fondant looks so smooth! Is that fondant covering the cake board? I haven't tried doing that yet. Is it difficult? I usually use the colored foils on my cake boards, but love the look of the fondant!

And I made these for Easter:)

Thanks for the compliments...it did turn out REALLY smooth :thumbsup2 ...I don't get to do much fancy, but I'm just happy to be developing basic skillz so early in the game (I haven't been at this a year yet...see date of thread start, lawl) and I appreciate your comments!

I did cover the cake board; I just prepared the fondant like I would for cake, covered the board with crisco and plopped the board over it. I cut around the outside with an xacto knife (sp?) and ta-da, perfectly covered cake board. It was the brides design (the whole thing) and I think it added a great touch.

So cool to see everyone's work!
:goodvibes

Ok here are some other cakes I have made since the wilton classes.

My dh and ds5 birthday was on Valentines day so this is what they wanted.

My handwriting is terrible on cakes. I think I'll buy some of those letter forms soon.

then for his birthday he asked for a splash mountain cake. :scared1: I thought I would give it a go and here is what I came up with. Everything is edible except my Christmas ornament. :lmao:

Hey Cakers! Glad to see everyone doing fabulously well!

I've been gone for a long while, sorry about that...so many fabulous pages of photos to look at, beginner and pro. So loving this thread :goodvibes

So here is finally a pic of something I did recently...a spur of the moment wedding cake for my girlfriend. She was insistant on real shells and ribbon, so really all I had to do was make the cakes, color the fondant, cover them and stack them, but I want to add something to the thread so...here it is~~

Amazing work, ladies - everyone.

Excellent job on the Splash Mountain cake! I would have drawn an absolute blank had someone requested it of me...lol

Holy crap, that Splash Mountain cake!!! That. is. FABULOUS!!!

Thanks everyone! I was very excited how it turned out.

I had this vision in my head of how it was supposed to look and with the help of pictures it came out exactly how I imagined. 1st time in my life I think! :lmao:

The only thing I would do differently are the signs. They are color flow and I had the logo PERFECT and the hand painted Laughin' Place sign down just right but once I put the blue iciing around it the logo was all squished and got distorted. Next time I'll make them 2 seperate color flow pieces and then either use either gum paste glue or vanilla to stick the logo right on top of a solid background. That would look better. But as you know color flow takes days to dry right so I didnt have that option this time.

I cheat when it comes to the sign stuff. I would print out a picture/logo and glue it to gumpaste with piping gel. I commend you for trying. I wouldn't be able to do it.

It wasnt as bad as I had thought doing it seperate. I had the logo underneath the parchment paper and just traced it and it looke PERFECT til I added the darned blue! :lmao: so next time I'll just do them apart and glue them together. If it doesnt break it will look pretty good!

Notice the IF! :rotfl2:

Sorry I'm late on the comeback but that SM cake is a-maze-ing :woohoo: Let's see more...

~!go cakers!~

:)

WOOOOHOOOO!!!!! I finished Course I. I got the rose on the first try. So friggin excited about that.

Here is my first rose...

Course II starts Thursday and we get the same intructor. I am looking forward to week off from baking a cake.

Your rose is pretty!

I've done two frozen buttercream transfers yesterday. The first one is Yoda for my son's cupcake birthday cake next week. Then I did one last minute with the leftover icing that you use and did a skier (its our Rec Dept. last day to ski and they are having a cookout). They are pretty easy to do! I was kind of intimidated at first. I'll post a pic once I get the cake iced and decorated:)

WOw. you guys are terrific. That Splash mountain cake is terrific!!
Great job.
DD wants to do cakes. I hope she will someday. I used to do cakes "back in the day". In fact, I did my own wedding cake (with some help!!). But nothing like you guys are doing.

Here is my Frozen Buttercream Transfer. I did it for our Rec Dept. which was celebrating the last day of skiing. They did a big cookout, everyone loved it and asked me how I did this:)

This is my 2nd one, my other one is still in the freezer.

Please, if you have any suggestions on improvement, I would really appreciate it:)

Oh and I tried Sugarshacks icing and I wasn't really all impressed with it, its no different than what I did before except she uses coffee creamer. Not sure what the big deal is??? Oh well, I gave it a shot.

Wow! So much talent here!!!! I have never had the opportunity to take a class, but I make cakes for family and friends. Here are some of mine :)

Those are really neat cakes! I second the bunny and my other favourite is the cake made up of play blocks, so cute.
