I agree, it really is amazing how much talent is on this thread. I guess it's why baking is sometimes referred to as a domestic "art". My friend's birthday is on the weekend and I might try my hand at one of those giftbox style cakes - they always look neat but I haven't tried making one yet.

I started Course 3 yesterday! Oh my goodness are leaves easy, lol. She let me have a choice in my final cake of the roses choice. So, I'm doing White Roses, white leaves and I'm going to apply some of the pearl dust to them. (I like white on white wedding cakes).

My old classmate from Course 1 gave me (3) 50% off coupons for Michaels yesterday!! The ladies down there know that I have to travel 140 miles round trip to take the class, so they let me use them all:)

I got the four tier round pan set for $15! I got the Large fondant roller for $10. And I got the the 10 x 2 square pan for $5. Plus they let me use another coupon for 20% off my total purchase and I got some fondant cutters, a garland maker and a few other miscellaneous things. I did have to buy some Wilton fondant and that stuff is gross. My instructor is a by the book girl, so I bet she would have a cow if I brought in the homemade stuff.

Anyhow, I made all of my large roses last night for my cake as I'm short on time this month. We need to fit all of the lessons into 3 weeks! I go on a cruise in 3 weeks. My instructor said that since I was the only one in that class that I could just start one week earlier:) So, I need to get all of my roses and leaves done for the final cake.

Oh and wanted to post that all the cakes above are great! I really like the gift and the pirates chest:)

great cakes susieq. How did you make the pirate chest stay open like that? Is it just laying on the coins?

Ok here are some other cakes I have made since the wilton classes.

My dh and ds5 birthday was on Valentines day so this is what they wanted.

My handwriting is terrible on cakes. I think I'll buy some of those letter forms soon.

then for his birthday he asked for a splash mountain cake. :scared1: I thought I would give it a go and here is what I came up with. Everything is edible except my Christmas ornament. :lmao:

Sorry so many pictures!

I cant wait to try out some of the recipes on this thread!

AMAZING!!!

Love the treasure chest cake! Way too cute!!! Good job on all of them! :)

I made another cupcake cake this past weekend...and forgot to take a picture. Duh! Oh well...they were just plain vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream. Stuck them all together as a cupcake cake and iced the top in white, then some scroll-type stuff and fleur-de-lis in orange and a snail-trail like border in a blueish-teal. I laughed when I finished it as I looked at my colors again. The colors were the same colors that we used when we had in our high school marching band! My brother, sister, and I all did time in marching band (brother played sax and my sister and I were in color guard). Oh...and the cake was a belated birthday cake for my brother and sister...we all had a good chuckle after that...lol

I did purchase some scroll pattern presses from Michael's recently. I used them on the above mentioned cake...they're pretty cool! Really help with my scrolls/vines!

I have always wanted to take the Wilton decorating classes at Michaels, but with two small kids and trying to become a wedding coordinator, I just don't have the time.

I did something for FBLA for my son (another donation, lol). I did a cupcake cake. Does anyone have any recommendations for doing letters with the Frozen transfer??

I've never done one of those but it came out GREAT.

Any tips you want to share on getting the frosting smooth over the cupcakes. This doesnt seem easy to me, or is it? I've never tried.:confused3

Once I get my cupcakes positioned where I want them and glued down (with a dab of buttercream), I just ice it like a normal cake! If your icing isn't sturdy enough, and your cupcakes are spaced too far apart, your icing may build up in between the cupcakes. I had that problem last week...not a big deal though. Once I get a basic layer of icing on my CCC, i'll pop it into the freezer for a few minutes. This hardens up that layer of icing a bit and makes it easier (in my opinion of course) to do a final layer on top and get it all nice and smooth. :)

:worship: Thank you! That sounds so easy now! Just had to have someone explain it to me!!! Thanks again I really appreciate it. Great tip on the freezer!

There are some instructions with pictures somewhere online...let me see if I can find them for you!

Good heavens...as I was searching, five hours ago, for the tutorial that I had used before for my cupcake cakes, we lost all internet and phone lines in our office complex. Not just our suite or our building...but the WHOLE complex!! There are about a dozen buildings or so...made for a veeeeeeeeeeeery long afternoon!

So...back to the instructions...check out this website. Whoever did this site did an excellent job with a photo tutorial! It helped me a lot when I was trying to figure out how to do it!

I start Course II tomorrow. So excited!!! I am so bored today, no cake to bake! lol

I made some cookies. I found a great website to get great cookie cutters and she has tutorials too!

So, I did Wedding Cake Cookies:

And I did some Frog Cookies (my daughter loves Frogs):

Today I have to do my sons birthday cake (my baby is 17!!) And that will be the Yoda cake. I think I'm doing another cupcake cake and filling each with a peanut butter mousse.
