OK...I know this is personal..but I have to ask..
Has anyone here taken Clomid? Did it work for you? Any side effects to be aware of? I have read about it - but it is always nice to hear people's experiences...
My dr. is recommending it for me..

i took 4 rounds of clomid earlier this year! we were unsuccessful those tries, but i know that it was doing what it was supposed to be doing...we just had bad timing i guess. i did have to take clomid, progesterone, and estrodial (i think that's what it was called)...i had no real side effects aside from the normal PMS kind of stuff. it was just magnified a bit...i was very moody and ultra sensitive about everything. i'd cry at the drop of a hat...took everything personally...lol..i was an emotional basketcase...

good luck!!

I have, and I had to take it with dexamethasone (a steroid) to make it work, but work it did. Both times I took it, I got pregnant with in 2 tries and now have two beautiful children. The dexametasone did make me put on weight, 10 - 15 lbs both times I took it. I'm still fighting to lose that weight 3 1/2 years after my DS was born, that's been the only negative effect of the clomid/dexamethasone cocktail I took. Any other questions, feel free to PM or e-mail me directly.

I have read about the emotional side effects...certainly not looking forward to that!
I meet with my Dr. next Wednesday and I am doing some research on my own to make sure I completely understand the drug...

I am nervous about taking this kind of medicine. I was able to get pregant with my first child (almost 11 years ago) without too much trouble..so this is all new to me...

Anyone else?

Past Clomid user here. I tried two differen dosages and it did not work for me. My Dr. monitored the size of the folicles as they were growing through my cycle. They grew to the proper size, then DH injected me with Hcg (the pregnancy hormone), then at a certain time, we had to try to make a baby (6AM - not a lot of fun).

I tried many cycles without the monitoring as well. It didn't work for me. My problem ended up being PCOS and glucophage worked for me. Then, while nursing, not taking the medication, and not having a period, I got pregnant again, only about 2 months after DD#1's birth. Be careful!

I did experience moodiness which is pretty unusual for me.

Good luck to you.

I was on Clomid for one cycle and now I'm pregnant. The only side effects I had were hot flashes, and they weren't all that bad to deal with. I took the pills for a few days, then had to give myself an injection of Ovidrel to stimulate ovulation (actually, I chickened out & had DH stick me). We also had "scheduled" baby dancing, but thank goodness it wasn't at 6am! There was another component to our treatment that I don't really like to discuss in public forums, but you can feel free to PM me if you think you'd like to know all the options.

Our specialist said the chances of twins doesn't increase all that much, and sure enough, I'm pregnant with just one baby.

Good luck to you and I wish you well in whatever you decide to do.

I took clomid for my first pregnancy. I was on it for 5 cycles & then it was successful! With the 2nd pregnancy, I wasn't on anything, so it was really a surprise. I am now blessed with 2 beautiful DD's.

Best of luck to you! Went through lots & lots of tests, etc. for infertility before the success with the clomid, so please feel free to pm me if I can answer any question!

My sister took Clomid and produced fraternal twins. Twins run in our family every couple of generations so we don't know if it was the medicine or genetics.

I took Clomid with no side effects. After taking it for six months and no results, the doctor gave me a shot of something (I don't know what it was, but the needle was big and the container was huge) along with the Clomid and that did the trick. I received a shot in each hip. The nurse said that it would hurt but it didn't. I was pregnant with our son fairly soon after.

I used clomid to get pregnant with both girls - for Belle it was six very long cycles with Amelie it was only one!

I will admit to going slightly nutty while on the clomid, first it was the hot flashes - they would hit fast and hard. But after the second cycle it was the emotional end that was getting to me! It was when I walked into my doctors office and told them I was going to be hanging DHs *ahem* boy parts from my rear-view mirror and that I didn't think THAT was going to help me get pregnant that I realized it was in fact a horrible drug.  :scared1:

If you do go on it make sure they're doing enough monitoring, I did five cycles without monitoring, it was the one cycle that was heavily monitored that I got pregnant. I had blood tests and frequent ultrasounds. We did IUI to get Belle too because clomid can cause a hostile environment in *all* regions!

Good luck! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!!

I had the same experience as you. No problem with my first, but then we tried for about a year for my second. I took 3 rounds of clomid, tracked my temp and took ovulation tests. The 3rd round was the charm. I didnt have any side effects either.
Best of luck to you. I know how frustrating it is.

I took Clomid on and off for 10 years, with the longest consecutive time being 11 months straight. In 10 years I got pregnant twice, once at 150 mg., but I ended up having a miscarriage and then the second time I got pregnant with 100 mg. and had my son. I do not remember any side effects, but then again it was a long time ago, my DS is now 8-1/2.

Good luck.

Long time ago...21 years and 19 or so...DD's are 20 (almost 21) and 18 now..

Got pregnant first cycle each time! Amazing! I was so irregular I have no idea how it did the trick so fast?! :flower:

Another clomid user.
I was on clomid for 4 cycles before I got pregnant. I did end up miscarrying that baby though because of lack of hormones in my body.
I tried clomid again after a month break & got pregnant on the 3 cycles. This time I also took pregestone & I was able to go the whole 9 months without any problems.

As far as side effects, the only one I really remember was HOT FLASHS! I had them BAD too. It might be because it was the middle of summer when all this was going on but boy, some days I was just sooooo hot while others around me where fine!

The joys of trying for that baby.....but oh so worth it in the end :)

I honestly dont remember any side effects. But then again, I was an emotional basketcase at the time anyway (5 unsuccessful years of TTC).
I did 3 cycles with HCG shots, upped the Clomid dosage each time. I was closely monitored through all the cycles (blood draws, ultrasounds, etc) I had my ex-step-mom (a nurse) give me the injections. DH was too chicken to do it, LOL.
Cycle 1, I had an IUI and it didnt take. 2nd cycle, they didnt do the IUI since my follicles weren't 'right'. Cycle 3 was upped dosage, baby dance and 2 IUI's on alternating days. We will never know if Sam was conceived naturally or through the IUI's.
I was also sick as a dog (with a cold) for cycle 3. They mentioned I might have had better luck because I was sick. They said my body was too busy fighting the cold germs that it didnt pay attention to the invasion of sperm.

Same thing...one month and I was pregnant...had bad hot flashes for a few days too! I had 3 eggs that month but only one became fertilized so I just have the one child.

I also used clomid to get pregnant with my daughter who is now 15. It only took one cycle so I was pretty lucky ( although at the time of going through all of the fertility stuff I felt anything but lucky.) I don't remember any side effects.

Good luck

Elise

Yes I've taken it. When I was going through IVF I was on Clomid, only IVF wasn't successful :sad2:

But I had no side effects or anything whilst taking them :D

Clomid was one of the things I tried before I finally got pregnant the first time. Didn't work for me, but there were other problems involved that we didn't know about. Feel free to PM me also.

I took 5 unmonitered rounds of Clomid w/ no success. I definately was ultra-emotional on it but a lot of that was the stress of waiting to ovulate and waiting to take pregnancy tests I think.
There is a great fertility forum at www.fertilityfriend.com. The ladies are very friendly and willing to answer questions. You can get a pay membership but their bulletin boards are free.
