Anyone here have their Project Management Certificate?

How long did it take you?

What type (if any) degree did you have prior to taking the PM cert classes?

Did you find it helpful in your career?

I do. I didn't take a class. I bought a few review books. I have degrees in things that are completely unrelated but have been doing project management for 20 years. Got my PMP in 2001. You have to be able to document your project management experience as well as take an exam. It's just studying a "standard" way of refering to all those things you do when you manage projects. In the I.T. world, it doesn't necessarily make you a better project manager, but in many job markets it can he very important on your resume'. I reviewed for the test for about 3 months before I took it.

I have mine. I took a PMP class in MBA school (it was one of my final courses) and the class itself was a prep course for the exam. A couple days after the end of the class I booked the exam and with a few more hours of studying, I passed. It's not too difficult of an exam -- the class alone was, for the most part, enough preparation for it.

That being said, it's a nice thing to put on a resume, but it hasn't necessarily been very useful in my career so far.

I have mine-the company i used to work for paid for the prep courses and the testing fee-or it would have been quiet expensive to take the courses-which in my case were not a good investment-and my degree is not in anything related. You have to build a resume that shows your experience and a certain number of hours doing PM work. When i was laid off it did not help me find another job-and although i am now back in the IT field I am not doing project management at all
