Anyone Have Family/friends Killed By A Drunk Driver?

Me, too. The mother of a friend was riding a motorcycle and was struck and dragged by a drunk off duty cop. :sad1:

A friend from high school was working in a construction zone a few years ago and was hit by a drunk driver. He was in a coma for 12 days but finally died after multiple surgeries. The girl who hit him only served 1 year in jail.

Another family friend was killed 2 years ago when she was hit by a car that was street racing. Her car flipped through the air and landed upside down in a ditch. She was killed instantly. I got the call while on my honeymoon at WDW. :guilty:

So, in addition to don't drink and drive, don't street race and slow for the cone zone! :thumbsup2

No big deal?!?!?!?!? WTH?!?!

They either drink and drive or are on drugs!

The mother of a friend of mine was killed by a teenager drunk driver when I was in high school. The mom was an extremely popular high school English teacher, and the drunk was a well-liked senior. It devastated the entire community!

No big deal...what an awful statement! :sad2:

My mother's cousin's son. He was 19.

One of my best friends growing up was killed by a drunk driver when she was only 24. It was herself. She drove from a bar "only" 2 miles from home. Flipped her SUV while entering the freeway. She flew out the moonroof, and was crushed as it was rolling. 2 other passengers were severely injured.

My DHs best friend was hit head on by a dd. The drunk died, and DH's friend lost a leg, a good chunk of his arm, and hasn'tbeen the same since (this was 13 years ago, too...)

Drunk driving is an awful awful thing.

Yes and I have zero tolerance for those who do choose to drive drunk. I don't care if they take their own life into their hands but don't get on the roads where you endanger the lives of others.

I will never forget being in high school and having MADD come do a presentation. One of my good friends brothers had died at the hands of a drunk and they had footage of his accident which my friend had never seen. It was awful! One of my teachers sons was also featured in the presentation. They are images that I will never be able to earse.

Since high school I have lost several more friends that way.

One of my best friend's sister.(We were super close through high school and she was my college roommate. Athough, we have lost touch since college.) Her sister was killed by a drunk driver during the summer between our Freshman and Sophmore years in High School. They (She and two other passengers) were hit head on by a drunk driver at about 10am of the 4th of July on their way to the beach to enjoy the holiday. The other two survived with just minor injuries. :sad1:

Not a big deal? I'll tell that to my 'adopted' mom and sisters the next time they bring up their 14 yr old son/brother who was killed by a drunk driver.

It's pretty pathetic when someone sticks up for these low lifes.:sad2:

These stories are so sad and tragic. :sad1: What makes it even more so, is they are all preventable!

It's simple, if you are drunk then don't drive. What's not to understand about that?? Why take a chance of hurting yourself or others?

To say DUI is no big deal is unbelievable. And I bet who ever said that would be singing a different tune if they or one of their loved ones were struck by a drunk driver. :sad2:

ITA.

A former boss of mine got plastered at a "business lunch" that lasted past dinner. He was speeding down the wrong side of a divided highway, hit a college student head on and killed him.

Because the drunk was politically connected, he got a pretty light sentence. I was actually sent a questionnaire by the parole board (he was trying to get out even earlier) and I put "no comment" for several questions about his "character."

He was scum.

Yes, high school friends. :sad1: They were not the ones drinking.

Seems like the ones who get killed or seriously injured are usually the ones who weren't drinking. The drunk always seems to walk away from the damage they have done. :sad2:

A friend from our old church was killed by a drunk driver while she was walking home from church. She left behind her husband and two young kids.

When I was in high school a couple from a nearby school were in an dwi accident. The boy was driving and the accident was his fault. The girl was killed in the accident. He committed suicide soon after.

And just this year a girl from DS's school was killed when her friend -- driving drunk -- hit a tree on the way to a school dance.

My uncle was killed by a 20-year-old drunk driver. He served 6 months in a safe house.

My neighbor, a 9 year old girl was oustide her house when a drunk driver went over the curb hit her, she was pinned under the car for 3 hours. She survived but lost both legs.

My coworkers lost his Brother & 3 month old baby when a 4th time offender hit their car going 100 mph on a local street. The driver's daughter also died in the accident. The DRIVER is still DRINKING & DRIVING!:scared1:

My sister was hit by a drunken School bus driver @ 3:00 in the afternoon. She was crossing the street he went through the red light, hit her while he had a bus load of kids. She survived but has massive spine & neck problems. He was suspened from his job for a month it was his First Offense!:scared1:

"its no Big deal":sad2: :sad1:

Not in my case. My late husband died while driving drunk. When I was informed, my first question was, "Was anyone else hurt?" I make no excuses for him. He made a stupid, selfish choice. The only ones hurt were his family. He left a 9 month old daughter.

One of my brothers friends was killed by a drunk driver, super sad. I can't understand the mentality of people who think they can drink and drive like its no big deal.

This thread is heartbreaking. It's so tragic to read about deaths that were PREVENTABLE.

I'm so sorry for all of your losses. :flower3:

I have just been livid all day about how the sheriff in my town let Paris go today. Who is going to take the laws seriously now? I really just want to beat the living pulp out of her.

I lost a dear friend in Junior High School all those years ago. I'll never forget him. When he was hit, he didn't die right away. He spent months in a coma, came out of it, and was bedridden and on steriods until he died about two years after the crash.
