Anyone have experience with a SD in a water park?

My husband and I have been trying to figure out how to make this work. I will be traveling with a large service dog and he will need to be with me at all times as much as possible. We have free tickets for a free day to Typhoon Lagoon, but are unsure if there is really anywhere that our kids can go and I can go as well. My husband will be with me as well, but we hoped to be able to stay together as a family at least most of the time. I know that the kids play areas there are mostly in water, so I am assuming my dog would not be able to walk in there with me.

How have others been able to make going to a water park work with a service dog and a family?

There are three basic rules for service dogs at the water parks.

1. They must remain on a leash at all times.

2. They are not permitted on any attraction or in any water.

3. At least one member of the party must be with the animal at all times.

DD used to take a class at a swimming pool that is a simulated beach with slides and stuff (like a mini water park). One of the other kids in the class had a service dog. The dog came once, but then they left him at home after that. The boy's mom said the dog was hot, plus since he couldn't go in the water with the boy he would get upset and start barking. The mom was wondering if maybe the dog thought the boy was in trouble. Anyway, I'm sure some SDs would be fine, but others might not have such a good time. If you get there early, you could probably stake out a spot near where the kids area is, if you and the dog wanted to hang out while the kids were in the water.

Good luck!

On a different site I am a member of a group of service dog owners. One of them posted a while back that they checked there dog into the kennels so they could do the water parks and not have to worry about him. I have heard of some people leaving the dog in hte room, but to me that does not seem very safe for the dog. I personaly would not leave my sons dog at the kennel because he needs him, but I just wanted to make sure that you considered all of your options.
