...I saw one at Target with 2 screens that attatch to the back of the head rests. Not cheap but comprabably priced. We've had other Disney electronics that have not held up. My DD has the Mickey CD player/boom box and it's very tempramental (sp?) DS has the same one and works just fine but he hardly uses his.

We are taking a 5 hour trip this week end and the one we've had for 2 years just died when I unplugged the second screen (it's' an Emerson). The reviews on Targets web site are either it's great or it's a piece of junk.

Just wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with the Disney one.

I picked up another brand (never heard of) at Walmart and took it out of the box and it just seems like a really cheap piece of junk. When you open it to put the DVD in, the whole front just falls. Thinking that'll break after a few movies. I so wish we had just splurged and gotten the factory installed one when we bought the car. Hindsight 20/20.

Don't have one, but also need to get a new DVD player before our trip in June..... am interested to see what reviews we get here!

I have one that Santa brought my daughter this year. We have only used it once on an all day/night drive. I like that one unit has no buttons at all, so unless she unplugs it, she won't accidentally stop the movie (she's only 1). It worked fine. The volume doesn't go super loud though and even though there are two sceens, you only get to watch one movie. It is pretty bulky, especially once you add the headphones, wires, cords, etc. You also have to connect the two screens to get a picture to the second one. You can route the sound through your car's speaker system if you are inclined to do so (eitehr connect with a headphone connection or use a cassette adapter). All in all, it is comparable to the others. It is nice that the two screens lock together for protection and the Mickey buttons are cool. It was on sale for $149, but I don't know how often it goes on sale. I have seen it cheaper on ebay. Toys R Us had a carry case for it, but it didn't look like it really had enough room for both sets of headphones, the cords, and the units (but I didn't buy it). I put ours in a messenger bag and that seems to work fine. The disadvantages of this player are that it is bulky, if you only want to use/bring half, you lose the advantage of the screen protection, and only one movie can be watched. If you had two separate ones, each person could watch a different movie with headphones.

Good luck with your choice.

Did you have any problems with it working? The other one we had also had a ton of wires. We try to thread them around car seats so they don't get tripped on. When you turned it off would it start from the beginning of the movie or where you left off? We don't plan on leaving it the car, just use it for the occassional long trip 2 or 3 times a year.

My sons (3 & 5) love their Disney DVD players - we have had them for about 6 months and have not had any technical difficulties. I would agree that the volume is not very loud. I also agree with the about post - I don't like the fact that when the car goes off, the movie goes off and you have to start over with it - but it is great for longer rides - Easy for my 5 year old to operate also.

From personal experience, I'd say don't buy this DVD player.

We have had our current Disney DVD player for about 4 months (crossing fingers I didn't just jinx it). However, this is the 5th player we have had, and honestly the first one that has worked more than a month. With the first one, from the first use, we noticed the DVD scratching against the cover as the movie was playing. By the 3rd use, it no longer played DVDs. Exchanged at Target for another one, this one had the same problem. I actually called the company, and they said they were aware there was a problem and told me to take it back to Target. I did another exchange, this 3rd one had a problem internally with the speakers, and the only way to get it to work properly was to hold a nail in the hole for headphones. Called again, and was told to return it. Exchanged again, now on the 4th player. I did not notice until I got it home, that it had been opened and returned (it did not work). Returned to Target that same day for a new one (made sure it had not been opened). We have been using it, like I said, for about 4 months. I have a gut feeling that this one will go any day now, especially since I am beyond the 90 day return policy.

Thanks for the input. I ended up buying it with the $19 3 year extended warranty. There just aren't that many portable DVD players with the dual screens on the market. I got it all set up and it seems to be working fine. I guess we'll see if it holds up on our trip this weekend. I kept my reciept and all the packaging just in case there are any problems.

One thing I did find, a good thing actually. If you use the remote to stop the movie (the main unit doesn't have a stop button which is a little weird) and use the remote to turn it off and then back on, you can resume the movie where you left off. I guess you just have to keep it plugged in while you are out of the car. My only worry is that with our old one it recommended unplugging it before turning the car on. Our plug gets power even if the car isn't on. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that it makes it through the weekend.

5 hours in the car with 4 bored kids = Mommy  :headache: :scared:

Works great. The only problem is there are times when the sound isn't loud enough and DD3 gets upset. Also when my cell comes into signal it makes a weird noise.

Thanks for the remote help ColleenG - we will have to try it next time we are in the car - my boys will be so very happy if they don't have to keep watching the same part over and over! :)
