Kim thanks for the great web site. Have been toying with the idea of a woodland garden for a few years. Have done some reading. I know the soil needs to be very rich and have been working with a small area.

Thought I would start out with a few different kinds of ferns and add a few favorites that I do not have. I love Trillium ( one of my favorites of the woodland flowers), Soloman Seal and Lady's Mantle.

What is so great about the site is it also list annuals.

Since I do not have woodland areas at ALL - I can't even consider a woodland wildflower garden. However, my sun garden has many varieties that are considered wildflowers - evening primrose, various coneflowers, coreopsis, iris, sage, verbena, and bee balm.

Across the street is 80 acres that were being subdivided for new construction and there is a creek that runs through it that has many wildflowers. My husband and i were able to get yellow siberian iris,trillium, and jack in the pulpit. We then planted them in our yard and they have come up nicely. Its just a shame to sit on our porch and watch this area get bulldozed over. The people building have done a pretty good job of not destroying it to badly.The road through the area has done the most damage. It was mostly pine trees in the front and woooded area in the back. I'll miss walking through there, they have made it a private road now and really get on people for treaspassing. Susan

ask them if you can do a wildflower rescue !!!!


I have done this many times and have a few very rare wildflowers because of this.

Yellow Ladies Slipper and Gray's Lily are the two rarest.
