Hi, new to this section.
3 years ago I lost 50 lbs on Jenny Craig. My catalyst was knowing that I was bringing my 4 year old twins to Disney. I didn't want to be the fat mom on all the rides. I didn't want my Dumbo to droop or be afraid to be in the pictures.

I have managed to keep the weight off since. Now we are going in January and I want to try and loose a few extra before we go. When I am on vacation I like to eat. So I want to loose a few before we go.

If anyone would like a buddy please let me know. I am a 38 year old mom who runs a small home daycare. My favorite food is ice cream.

Thanks

I wanna be your buddy!!! I'm going to WDW in late Sept. and I sooo need to drop a few lbs (ok, aLOT of lbs) and get into better walking shape before my trip. I'm very un-motivated though and need a boost (or a kick in the keester) so I'm checking out the W.I.S.H. board for the first time. Confession time...I'm eating PB cookies right now...ok, I'm ready, they're going in the trash! Gone!! What can I do for you??

I know what you mean about motivation. Most of my life I have been abound the 175lb mark. 2.5 years ago I lost 50lbs. It is a daily struggle. Like I said, my motivation was that I didn't want to be the chunky mom on the rides and I wanted to be in all the pictures. My dh and I have an ongoing joke that when we see each other over-eating, we tell each other "your dumbo is not going to fly" meaning that they will be too heavy to get off the ground.

Anyway, life is too short, and you don't get to do it over, so I figured that I would rather live it at a healthy weight. Plus, my mom was obese and I learned her bad habbits, so I want to do better for my girls.

That said, I am not a food natzi. I eat a hot fudge sundae at least every 10 days. When at Disney, I will eat desert. However, I try to drop at least 3-4 lbs before I leave so I don't have a ton to take off when I get home.

How about you? Are you doing the dining plan? How much do you want to loose? What are your favorite foods? Do you have kids?

You can do this!

Hi Cinderellamom123!! I'm Jackie (41), have 4 boys (23, 20, 10 & 5) w/ only the youngest 2 at home. Overall, I should lose at least 80 lbs. I tried WW last year, but in 9 months only lost 20 lbs (which I've found again); so that's where the 'un-motivated' comes in. My family history includes obesity on both sides, yet so far none of my boys have picked up this history.

I'm not clueless about how to prepare healthy meals or have a healthy lifestyle, I just don't have the gumption to do it...at least for myself. I try to fix healthy meals for the boys and DH, but I'll hide in the kitchen and eat only the main entree and none of the 'good for you stuff'. I need to find a motivator...and hopefully a buddy will help!

Yes, we are going for the free dining (9/18-22). I'd LOVE to stay longer but I work for an elementary school and I only get 2 'personal' days a year to take off for 'whatever' so I'm blowing them right at the beginning of the year for WDW...plus taking the kids out of school. DH has had enough of WDW to last him a lifetime so I'm taking my mom instead. Do you have a trip in the works?

What type of things do you need to help you out? An exercise routine? Encouraging pat on the back? Meal planning? I'm excited to be talking with you!

I am going in January the 22-Feb 1st. We are staying at the Wyndham Bonnet Creek 1 bedroom condo. Looking foward to the room. It is right next to the carribean beach resort. Where are you staying? Last time we went in Feb of 2007 we did the Dining plan. It was fun. I have twin 6 year old girls. They are great kids. They loved disney in 2007. They talk of it daily.

I guess my main thing is to not let food control my life. I am very educated about nutrition. In 1990 when I was 20 i lost 50 lbs with WW. I kept if off for 10 years and then started infertility treatments. I gained about 15lbs and then got pg with twins. When the girls were 4 I lost the baby weight (50lbs) and have kept it off.

I tend to eat too much at night. I can't have one serving of ice cream. I can eat a half gallon of ice cream easy. I am just trying to find some consistancy. We are going shortly after Christmas so I want to actually loose a few before I go.

What are your favorite foods?

When I am considering downing those oreos or pancakes I think to myself " wouldn't it be nice to feel good about myself in Disney" or maybe I should wait because I would rather eat something yummier in Disney. Usually it works.

This time we are not doing the dining plan. We we are staying 10 days. To be honest, I don't think that the food was that great. I have one maybe very good meal, and the rest were ok. And we ate at some good places.

Where do you have reservations?

We have ressies at AS Sports. I wanted POP but procrastinated too long on making the res so Sports was all that was available in the Values. I haven't made any ADRs yet...again the procrastination thing. Since we will be there only a few days I want to hit AK, MK, & Epcot, and maybe a water park on our last day since we don't fly out until after 5:00p. I'd like to try Whispering Canyon Cafe since it sounds like a fun place for the kids, Yak & Yeti, Coral Reef, Cinderella's Royal Table, Tony's Town Square, San Angel Inn, Le Cellier Steakhouse, Nine Dragons and Concourse Steakhouse before it closes. (Hey, this buddy thing is working out good for me so far! Now I've got the places picked out, I just need to nail down which exact ones and make adrs!) The last time we went for free dining the new places we tried were Boma (dinner - didn't care for), Kona Cafe (brk - loved it!), Chef Mickey's (character brk - ok), Grand Floridian Cafe (brk-LOVED it! Just mom and me while kids were on Pirate Cruise), Trail's End Restaurant (dnr - blech), Rose & Crown Pub (lunch - great), and a few counter services places.

And here we are talking about food! :rotfl2: My issues are quantity control & dt. coke addiction. I eat when I'm hungry or not; and if what I ate didn't 'hit the spot' I'm off looking for something else to try again. I do better at work because I mostly pack my brk & lunch (which are usually practical healthy/proportion meals) but at home for the evening/weekend or any school break/vacation I'm not too far from the refrigerator. I'm a meat and potatoes type of gal; not so much a dessert fan...not to say I don't enjoy a sweetie here and there, but pass the bacon please!

Just talking with you today has helped out! I threw out those cookies and when I came across the candy jar today I at first thought "oooh, yeah!" but then I thought of my new buddy and passed it by. I'm logging out for the rest of the day today, but I'll check in again in the morning. My goal for tonight is to eat a little green stuff with dinner, at least one piece of fruit and a walk. How about you?

Make your reservations asap. My friend is going around the same time and had a lot of problems getting what she wanted. We are planning on

Cinderella's table
Chef Mickeys
Mama Melrose (fantasmic Dinner Package)
Norway Akurserus
Ohannas
Tutto Italia epcot 2
Tepan Edo or Lecellier alternate epcot

We have done Cindy's Table and LeCellier before. We also liked the Grand Floridian Cafe. It was our best meal. However, like I said, nothing was exceptional. We always go for dinner. We are not big into Breakfast. Lunch we eat early, around 11 ish and dinner early.

Anyway, good for you about the candy dish. I know what you mean about something hitting the spot. If it doesn't, you are still searching for that "fix."
Thus, I have become a food snob. For example, ice cream is my thing.
I love the small mom and pop shops that are open in the summer (I live in Mass) Anyway, a sundae at one of these places is like $6. My DH doesn't understand why I can't just eat ice cream at home. It just doesn't do it for me. I would rather go out and pay my $6 and get what I want than buy all the fixings in the store, probably for $10, eat the stuff, still not be satisfied, and then have all that stuff sitting around my house with me picking on it.

I did go to the library today and take out a couple of movies to watch while I walk on the treadmill in the am. There is nothing on tv in the am and the time drags!

Will check in with you tomorrow!
Wendy

Good Morning Wendy! How are things going for you? Bypass the ice cream last night for a carrot? It is sooo hard! I did ok last night; by this I mean I ate way less and more healthy than what I normally would have, but still wasn't completely 'on track'. My DH loves a bowl of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce on it almost every day (or a strawbery sundae from the Dairy Delight in town). This doesn't kill me to have in the house because I can walk right past vanilla anytime...chocolate would be a big downfall from me though. I will not buy it because I know where it will go :rolleyes1.

My DH loves to get up on Sat & Sun mornings and go grocery shopping by himself.:confused3 I send a list with him but usually he only gets a few of the things on the list and then brings home what he likes. I purposely do not buy things I know I will have a hard time staying out of, but he is very predictable in what he'll bring home...cheese, chips, hotdogs (cheesy), and flavored applesauce. He could certainly stand to lose a few lbs (ok, aLOT) himself, but is pretty resistant to my attempts at feeding him normal portion sizes. I'll be done with work for the summer on Friday and then I'll be home until early Aug. so I'm going to try to pack him lunches and see where that gets me with him. I've done this in the past before my last two boys, but it kills me when I take the time to prepare it for him and then it would occasionally come back home uneaten (for whatever reason). The whole waste of the groceries bugs me too. I would do much better myself at home if we could work together; hopefully this summer can be a turning point for both of us since I know he wants to lose weight too.

We've eaten at almost all of the places at WDW you've listed at one time or another. Like you say, nothing to really write home about food-wise, but some of them are the experience that makes it a great place to go. At Mama Melrose's (also Fantasmic Package) it was only DS10(6 at the time) and me that went and he wouldn't eat after we got there (not hungry) so the server didn't charge me for a meal for him - which was nice because it was part of the 'package' and she really could have. Ahh, Disney Magic.

I've been to WDW at least 8-10 times (isn't it crazy, I can't even keep track how many!) and DL twice. DH and I had our honeymoon at WDW in '93. That is when I became a real Disneyaholic. Oh, and 2 Disney cruises too...

I didn't get a walk in last night but did hoe the garden a little ;) I'd love to have a treadmill in the house. When I was in my early 20s I lost alot of weight using an exercise bike in front of the tv and giving up meat for about a year. I was also single and lived by myself at that time so it was much easier. I felt great about myself then (went from a size 16/18 to an 8/10) and would love to have that feeling back. I'm to a point now that I'm pretty down on myself about how I look. I don't want to be like my mother, yet I see myself headed in that direction everyday. DH will occasionally call me her name when he sees the same thing and I hate it because I know he's right.

Have you made any changes to make things easier for you? Thown out anything that is hard for you to resist? The candy dish I had in my office is a 'fundraiser' from a well meaning teacher that she kept filled all the time. I hated having it in here but she keeps it filled for all the staff and my office is the common area for everyone. She filled it one more time before she left for the summer as a 'gift' for me, but I took it to my friend's house last night and fed it to all the kids so I brought back the empty dish today and won't have the temptation. I hate to waste food, but sometimes it just has to go.

Hopefully you are walking your way through a movie!

I forgot to mention that I am 38 and run a small family daycare out of my house. I do all the shopping so I control what What is here. I do keep vanilla ice cream in the house which doesn't tempt me. However, my DD 6 love oreos and I have on several occasions dumped a bag on top of the vanilla ice cream. I do buy the individual bags though.

I walked 25 minutes this am. Then I took all the kids for a walk. Two of them I pushed in the stroller so I did break a little sweat.

We are going on vacation the week after the fourth so I am focusing on cutting back a little for that.

Last Disney trip we tried to book the "better" restaurants hoping for some great dinners. This time we are going more for the "experience" More character dinners etc. I have buffets because I have a hard time controlling myself. I think for money reasons and calorie reasons, I may try to limit dessert to the buffet nights because they are already paid for. I love dessert.

Anyway, today is good. Getting ready for lunch. I have been addicted to pita bread/flat bread pizzas. I make them at home. If you want the recipie, let me know. I eat those, dinner leftovers, of a lean cuisine, ww meal etc.

Dinner is usually some type of protein with 1 or two veg, no starch and a salad,

Breakfast is easy, cereal, granola bar, 1/2 a bagel etc.

I do love the ww chocolate chip cookie dough sundaes but they are getting very expensive. Two serving are like $2.50. I am ashamed to say that I often eat both in the box.

Anyway, good to hear from you. Have you made your ADR's yet.

You are going to feel so good in disney by taking these steps now!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Hi Wendy, My school district has installed new 'filters' in our internet service and the Dis has been blocked!!! Waahhh, what am I going to do w/out my Dis fix???:worried: I can still post from home, but we have pokey old dial-up so I'm not logged in nearly as much. I'll still be in touch as much as possible, but not so much during daytime hours for the rest of this week.

I'd love your recipe for pita pizza! I really need to try some new things. I keep thinking my kids are 'picky' eaters, but maybe they're just tired of the same-old same-old. I pack them the same thing in their lunchpails every day because I know they'll eat it, but BORING! Will your girls be in KDG or 1st gr next year? Do you pack their lunches? I have alot of WW recipes I collected from last year. I kept them all together, but did nothing with them but let them collect dust.

Some of my favorite 'diet' foods/snacks are: Kozy sugar free rice & tapioca puddings, 100 cal packs of chips/crackers, a hard boiled egg, and...hmmm...I thought I had several, but maybe not. I wish a piece of fruit or a carrot sounded yummy to me, but not so much.

Good for you for walking today!! I told myself I was going to walk around the baseball field in the 1/2 hour between the time we have to arrive for DS10's game and when the game begins today, but sat in the car and read instead. Why?? I know what I need to do, why can't I get off my duff? Do I understand that you must be at 'goal' weight and are trying to maintain? That must be so satisfying!

Our last trip to WDW was during free dining '06. I planned that trip moreso for fun than I had for the trip before that one (5/05 in which only one DS and I went and I ground him through a commando routine which I'll never do again). In '06 we had some out of park days that we did Pirate Cruise, mini golf, MNSSHP, Cirque, and resort restaurant hopping. I think I'm going to plan this next trip more in the parks but take off the middle of the day for nap/swim time. And no, I haven't made any ADR's yet...maybe tomorrow. Keep asking me!

Have a good night! Jackie

Kids have their last day of school today. I am excited about spending more time with them.

We go on vacation to cape code the second week in July. My inlaws have a condo right on the beach. Years ago, we used to eat out all the time down there but the last two years we have found it to be similar to disney. Everything is mediocre. Since then, I have packed up some frozen meals and we will go out a couple times. It is horrible to say, but one of the things I really look forward to is the ice cream shop called Sundae School. Like I said, when I go on vacation, I don't deprive myself. Thus I will be eating my pita pizzas and ww dinners for the next few weeks before I go.

Anyway, here are my favorite snacks:

Noni's Biscotti - 100 calories
WW cookie dough sundae 170
Lindy's Chocolate Gelato 170
ww brownie sundae 200 calories
Macdonalds fruit and yogurt parfait 150
Macdonalds vanilla ice cream 3 points on WW

Anyway, with the pita pizzas, you need to look for a low calorie crust.
You really need to read the back label and look at seving size. I find that many roll ups / pitas that are high in fiber, low carb have very low calorie counts. You want something around 100 calories. I will try to get you the name of some. If it is a pita, it is easy. I use 1/4 cup motzarella 80 calories and load the top with veggies: onions, peppers, mushrooms etc. It is is a roll up, I fold it in half and do the same. They are really filling. You can always have a salad with it.

I have a couple other recipes for spaghetti pie which is awsome and mac and cheese, and a turkey meatloaf. Let me know if any appeal to you.

Have a great day!

Wendy
