Anyone going first week in January?

My partner and I are visiting the World January 2-8. I understand the marathon is that weekend. Is anyone else going down then? Has anyone been there at that time and can comment on crowds and all? Thanks!

Marathon day, and the night before, can alter traffic routes. Check ahead on that.

But attendance is only slightly higher in the parks.

Will be there with some of my friends from Dec 31 thru Jan.8. Have been to WDW twice before during the same time frame. The crowds are heavy on NYE, and then they thin out considerably. We were there for 2 weeks this past January, and by the second week in jan. there was hardly anyone there. It's a great time to go to WDW because the weather is normally incredible and the crowds are not overwhelming. Not to mention it is the value season and rooms are normally cheaper. Have fun.

DP and I will be there Dec 31st thru Jan 5th.

Will be our first NYE at WDW but we are preping ourselves for the masses! We went a few years ago for Christmas and it was a madhouse. We figure we multiply that by 2 to get some idea of what to expect for NYE.

So, we might be sitting on our balcony at SSR watching the PI fireworks at midnight... then look forward to the next few days of diminishing crowds.

I'll be there also Heading down to do the 1/2 Marathon... and NYE I'll be there from 12/29 - 1/8. Been going down there this same timeframe for the past 2 years.... and yes..the crowds are heavy for NYE and the few days afterwards...it seems to thin out by the middle of the week... but.... it is still busier than what I call "slow". The weather is very unpredictable.. so... pack everything! From Shorts to Jackets and especially Gloves!! Last year I didn't need them.. but the year before.. WOW it was frigid!!! So.. be prepared! the best day is New Year's Day... the magic Kingdom is Empty in the morning because everyone sleeps in... if you get up early any day.. that is the one day!

Hmmm, 3 sets of DISers coming to visit (and I seem to remember seeing another poster saying they were coming in the "who&where 2006").

Thanks for all of the responses and information. As always, I am ready to go now, but will just have to wait a few more weeks.

We are always up for meeting new people, if anyone wants to meet up. It is always fun to get new perspectives on the World from others, esp. those at this particular forum. We had great fun meeting up with others in June.
