Looks like a nice celebration. I think they do things like this in my city too, (well maybe not quite so technologically cool) but we are ultimately always too busy to do things for enjoyment. We need to change this and get more enjoyment out of life rather than running around and not smelling the flowers growing around us!

Lovely bumping into you last night - we too missed out on the free soup but did score a couple of lanterns and had a very enjoyable stroll down St Kilda Rd to get the car. If I wasn't so lacking in IT skills I could post a photo or 2 from last night as well

We tried to get shots of the "supermoon" Saturday night. My ladies photography group invited some other photographers and we all convened at a park on the lake nearby. It was the perfect place to catch the moon rising over the dam. Of course it was cloudy. Of course the moon was shy and wouldn't show itself. But we had a fun time anyway! Rather, we had fun until the thunderstorms ran us off.

I never get tired of being amused by the fact that your shortest day is our longest day. So weird! The sun is up until about 10 PM now, which is fine, but the damn birds waking up at 5 AM outside are killing me!

Agreed. Your city has so many great things happening as well.....you and Fran need to get out and about a bit more. The best thing about doing local events is that you can leave and go home whenever you like.

I was envious of the lanterns you scored. We got caught in the traffic car park that is known as Princes Bridge. Restricting it down to one lane and reserving one lane for bicycle travel is such a stupid idea!!!

I looked at taking a picture of the Super-moon. In the end, I got super-busy on Saturday night and missed that moon rise moment.

Fireworks in July



For the last 3 or 4 years, I've been heading to the Docklands precinct in Melbourne on a Friday night.

The reason?

The City of Melbourne runs a free event down the New Quay Promenade to encourage families to get out in the winter cold and enjoy a night of fireworks. Not that it is a super big show or anything; but the fireworks displays do last about 10 minutes of so.

This year was no different. Last night, being the first Friday in July and relatively warm temperatures, I headed on down to the Docklands.







There was some street entertainment out and about...









...but I was really only interested to set up and wait for the main event.











































































A pretty good night's effort!




And I found out that for the first time ever, the Melbourne City Council are expanding this event into every Friday night in August as well. I think there will be at least one repeat visit to this area in Melbourne this winter.....and it gives me plenty of opportunity to go try a few different things out with the camera that I've been meaning to try out for fireworks shooting!
