Temple of Heaven Bites
After a brief conference with the boys, we decided that some separation time was in order. DS had wanted to go pick up an Agent P mission or three and I had wanted to spend some time exploring the Temple of Heaven. Afterall, I was right by the gate.
Despite the human bodies at the entrance, once I walked past the garden, there was hardly anyone in the land.
I'm guessing that everyone was milling around the booths seeking their lunches.
I was super happy to take a step back in time in the House of the Whispering Willows. This display in the gallery has been here a while.
The 'Tomb Warriors: Guardian Spirits of Ancient China' display shows almost 200 soldiers.....
.....miniature replicas of those buried with the Qin Dynasty emperor in 209–210 BC to protect him from the evil spirits of the underworld.
The individual features on the faces are amazing!
In the gallery, there are also a range of delicate Chinese figurines. Some of these apparently date back some 2000 years. I was glad to be able to see bits of authentic China in here.
I was keen to take a look at the Temple of Heaven replica part of China.
Like everywhere else this morning, it was pretty empty in here.
That ceiling is just so intricately detailed; and, according to my parents who have been to the original Temple of Heaven, this ceiling is pretty true to life.
The last time I'd spent this much time in the China pavilion, it had been pouring down rain. We were stuck in the shop in the back for over 90 minutes. I think you'll understand that I declined heading back here.
Instead, I took a walk past the bell gong....
.....and looked for the Buddha statue.....
.....in the more expensive shopping side of China. I had a lot of fun looking at things in here but there was nothing here that tempted me to open my wallet.
I went to take another look at the lotus pond and then realised something.
It was a hot day and I was parched! Time to get something to drink.
Yes, I know that there were lots of booths around......but I chose to head to the permanent Joy of Tea stand. Unlike the F&W booths, this one had no queue.
I'm pretty sure this was the Strawberry Oolong tea slush. Just what I needed at this point in time.
And as I was enjoying my drink, guess who I came across?
Mulan and I had fun discussing the comparative merits of being a "princess". Technically, she's not royal but she is considered a Disney princess. Anyone else have a different viewpoint?
By this time of the day, there were a few more people around at the World Showcase and it was obvious that our blissfully quiet morning and lunch time was over. Still, as you can see, the crowds were not too bad.
And in closing. I thought the Photopass picture with Mulan turned out quite well!
