There has been so much negativity lately about DVC and SSR that I am getting down on DISBOARDS. We are new members looking forward to our first trip to SSR in August and I think I may have to stop reading so I don't ruin my whole trip! Anyone else feel this way?

yup - I feel the same, seems like more neg than pos, try reading the cruise boards, last night I was ready to cancel my cruise and stay at VWL!!! I didn't think I would have to worry about chair hogs, garbage in hallways, kids in hottubs, rushing to make reservations, rushing to get kids in clubs, worrying about what view I will get, etc!!

But I'm sure all will be great, there are always bad apples out there, and I bet if parents didn't push their kids to the limit, things would be alot nicer!

Jenn,

I hear you loud & clear!! No doubt there's a tremendous amount of wonderful information/advice on this board. However, if you start to take too much of the negativity to heart, you can second-guess yourself and your decision to purchase into DVC, which I find myself doing.

My husband says to quit reading the board -- GASP!!

Don't get too caught up in the controversy of the day here on the DIS. Bottom line is we are just a bunch of people who enjoy Disney and are sometimes a little passionate in presenting or defending viewpoints regarding this. Skip the threads whose titles don't appeal to you, there's still a lot of very interesting and useful information about WDW here. And some great Disney expertise from some of the "old-timers" also. Hang in there!

I have to LOL at this post. I have been feeling the same way!! I was on the chair hog thread and OMG I so don't want to have to fight for chairs on our cruise. I was worrying too BUT with that said I must keep in mind that every Disney vacation I have taken so far has been awesome and the one rare time I had my dry stuff dumped on the ground at Blizzard Beach did not ruin my vacation at all. I mumbled some not nice words to myself and continued to have fun. I cannot even say it had a negative effect on my vacation!
So I plan to love SSR and I am still excited about the location and the fact that it does not have a restaurant is no biggie to me with DTD being right there :) So take the negs with a grain of salt :)

It's one of two things....
1. those posting are trying to put the DVC resorts in a bad light so that no one else will want to stay there, thereby making it easier for the rest of us to get the times/units we want.

OR

2. a lot more people post negative experiences than the positive ones.

I'm going with #2. I don't know why this happens but it does. On all the boards you seem to see much more of the 'I had a terrible trip, didn't get upgraded, garbage in the halls, no chaise at the pool...' type posts. I like the happy posts. Yes, it's good to know if there is a problem somewhere but if you believe everything you read, WDW would be a ghost town by now. Nobody would be going back!!!!!

Hi Everyone,

Don't let anyone elses opinion get you down. Like the old saying goes opinions are like ______ Everyones got one.

I remember my friend telling me how much she hated CSR, but I tried it anyway and LOVED it....

Same with those who can't understand why we waste our money on DVC. Won't explain it? Or how can you go to the same place every year, you know there's more to life than Disney World...... My answer.... because I love it and I want to.

Let it roll off your shoulders, I'm looking forward to trying SSR. I think it sounds great. Not to mention we can all stay anywhere we choose.

Hang in there and be a proud DVC owner!

I'm sure by the time you arrive a lot of the negatives will be worked through. I did however change my reservations for June 27 to OKW based on this negativity. I'm looking for the most perfect experience I can get, and it doesn't sound like SSR is up tp that challenge yet. I'm sure once the construction is finished it will be perfect. I just don't want to spend my vacation in the middle of a construction site. Our time and money is too valuable to waste.

 Wow! You changed your reservation based on some peoples opinions on this board? People you've never met to make a determination if their views and thought processes are the same as yours? OKW is an old resort and you switched to that from a new one? Ooops...just left a negative report ;) Half the fun is to explore and experience yourself for the first time.

It seems to me, if my memory serves me right, that there was a similar controversy about AKL when it opened (this was before we were DVC members) in that it was a let-down to a lot of people. Now it's one of the most popular resorts, and most of the people who go there are really "Wow-ed!" Does anyone else remember it this way? So I'm basically ignoring initial reactions and see in a year or so what people think.

We've been DVC members since they opened OKW. Have been to Disney many times and have stayed at nearly all resorts. We only live a short distance away, so it's an easy vacation for us. Of those times, we've had mostly good stays. I like BWV, and BCV the best because of the location, but they were unavailable. Just didn't want to take a chance on the valuable vacation days I have. I'm sure we'll be happy at OKW, we like the larger room size, but not so sure about SSR, only because of construction. I'm sure it will be another good disney resort when it's finished.

The negative reports are far more valuable than the positive. I think the positive are great also, but you learn far more from the negative. Many people on this board are very novice travelers and some may be just over-joyed to be down there. I would not be too concerned about staying at SSR, from all reports the staff is great and sounds more like the staff at OKW. If you were going to BCV I might be a little concerned, it should not be a gamble that you get a room that has everything up to par. It seems that is the case there. I would stay at SSR and I am one of the worse people to please on these boards, the pool sounds great, the staff is way above most at other DVC resorts, they all should be as good as they are. You are going to be in a unit that is new. There may be some bug problems in certain areas outside, but they probably have that taken care of. The food court is right there. I doubt that a restaurant would be able to stay in business there with the competition. I would stay, so you should not feel concerned, and I am one of the most demanding on these boards. Have a good time:D :D

I feel that if you see the glass half-full, it's half-full. I can't even imagine what would have to happen to make us have such negative feelings, after all these years of visiting WDW!! We have learned things ourselves, like renting a car. We absolutely love having a car. But I would NEVER tell someone that they should do the same. And changing my ressie on someone else's ranting...I don't think so.

Try not to worry about what everyone says. I too get all excited and nervous about what people are saying and my husband then tells me to "calm down and worry about it when it happens because it probably won't". And he is definitly right.

DVC are definitly the best accommodations and you will have a wonderful time no matter which resort you are in.

Relax and enjoy all the majical things you will do on this vacation!

I take every one of the reports I read with a grain of salt. I have been to the BCVs at least 8 times and NEVER had a negative experience. We were at the BCVs opening week and while we had a few missing light bulbs and a DVD player that wasn't hooked up, we chalked it up to "opening jitters" It was nothing that ruined our trip or our "Disney Experience". Never have we checked into a substandard room there or a room that was not clean.

I guess if you go looking for something to be wrong, you will find it.

I am going to SSR in 4 weeks and plan to have a GREAT time and not sweat the small stuff.

Reading borards gives insight and take it for what's its worth, remember Every one has an opinion, not all opinions will be good.
Despite the construction I am going in October. I intend to enjoy myself. If you will be unhappy if there is construction around then decide if you would rather stay at another resort until work is done.
I think people who are complaining about construction, shouldn't. I booked knowing that there will be work that is ongoing, people who have already went knew there would be construction. It will continue until resort is finished. If they where not happy with work going on around resort, they should have stayed elsewhere until all work completed. I have full confidence that Disney will straighten everything out, but this cannot be done overnight. It will take time. And it will not interfer with my vacation.

Every resort takes thier turn at getting lots of negatives on these boards. I remember when just about all of the DVC resorts opened and each went through the same thing.

I too just came back from another wonderful stay at BCV with no problems whatsoever. But I'm not the type to let a little stain on a sofa cushion bother me either. Some folks just like to complain and will find any excuse to do so.

When AKL opened there were folks badmouthing it right and left and as someone said, it's now very popular. I've stayed thier twice and haven't had any bad experiences there either. As a matter of fact, my DD and I were getting on the bus there one day and I commented on how everyone on the boards complained about the bus transportation from there and we just laughed because we thought it was excellent.

I love my BCV home, but I'd love to take a solo trip to SSR sometime to enjoy the spa, DTD, and just hang out at that pool.

I wrote one of the negitive reports on SSR. There is no way that you should feel this way. DVC is one of the best things in the world. I think we try to be critical to find ways to make it even better. SSR is stunning. The goods outway any bads 100 to 1. DVC for me is a time to gather with the family and just share time. All the Disney resorts are magical and SSR shines of magic.

We are only critical because we want to make it even better. We want perfection. Most SSR complaints are things that will be fixed as time progresses

If you feel like me you will quickly realize that joining DVC is one of the best things that you ever did.

Sorry if we made you feel bad.

I went through this once, too. BCV was getting alot of negative reports right after I bought and I had to stop reading the posts for awhile. I was becoming a nervous wreck! But, alas the lure of the boards dragged me back. It is hard to stay away, I'm an addict.
Everything will be just fine. I saw SSR last week while staying at BWV and I thought it was very lovely.
