Anyone feel this way?

I've been reading these boards regularly for almost three years, and IMHO the negativity meter is pretty constant.

Every WDW resort gets negative reports from time to time. It's all good information, so I welcome both the positive and negative reports.

If seeing the negative reports is distressing to someone, they should definitely curtail their visits here. Some people are worriers, and this just feeds their worries.

Others just read the comments and put them into the hopper for future reference, knowing that these reports are a tiny percentage of DVC visits in the course of a year.

I know that in 40 years of WDW vacations, I'm going to have some bad DVC experiences. In my opinion, if you have them, then report them to the management while you're at WDW, and follow up at home if unsatisfied with their response.

I have seen more negatives lately too. My problem with the negative posts seem to be the "over the top" nature of many of them.

I have no problem at all hearing about the negative things that happen on a trip but I would also like to hear about the positive things as well. We learn by reading about both. I understand that a negative check in (this is example only, I'm not talking about anyone specifically) experience can put a damper on a trip, but when that's all I read about for a person's 7 day trip to WDW it makes me wonder if they just dwelled on that for 7 days and did it ruin the whole trip? Did anything good happen at all? Was SAB the best pool at WDW? Are the fireworks from SSR as good as they say? Isn't the BWV pool bar the best? How about the Iron Spike Room at the VWL?

There are so many positive things if we just open our eyes. Then report them. I am interested in those too and I think many more here are as well.

Thank you. Now I will step down from my soap box. BTW: Ditto to Granny too.

If I want totally positive Disney spin, I'll just read the last issue of the VM or Member Clubhouse, or pop-in my DVC sales tape (which I do for fun before most trips). Each DVC resort/program/event has pluses and minuses. Many posters like to read all sides of an issue/topic, and that includes what some may consider "negative". Negative threads get more traffic because frankly, they are more interesting to read. Keep in mind that most of what is posted here is the OPINION of the poster, and may not reflect your Disney/DVC universe.

I yet to have any DVC vacation ruined by the types of horror stories I've seen posted here.

Anyone who deals in customer service knows that 10 people are unhappy for every 1 who complains, but 50 people are happy for every 1 who sends praise.

yep and the problem lies with the fact that unhappy people will tell more people about the negative experience. The people who have positive experience do not tell as many. It is how our culture is set up. Too many postives and you are bragging to others. A negative stays with a person longer so they tell more people even years later. That is why good companies are supposed to turn bad experiences into good. It will allow the person with a bad story to have a happy ending and make the company look better. :)

I like to read all the reports; good, bad or indifferent. Like Granny I put away the info for future reference. I also like to read how something was resolved if needed. Hopefully, I will never have something I view as negative on one of my trips. But if I do I would include it in my report and what I did to resolve the situation. It may help someone else down the line.

Also, some of the reports are personal observations from people. I keep in mind that it's just that. I may view the same thing very differently. But that's the fun of life. We all have different viewpoints.

We have a trip planned for later this summer at SSR and the negative reviews have no affect on us whatsoever.

What appeals to me, might not appeal to someone else.

I like the Downtown Disney location. We love having the parking lot near our room as we always have our car. I don't need a full service restaurant as we always plan the evening meal out either at the parks or another resort. The food court sounds perfect for lunch or breakfast. I knew when we booked construction would be ongoing so that is no concern at all. I had concerns about the noise and those that have already been answered my questions about that. So that is no longer a concern. I love the photos of the interiors and the outside entrances are fine with me. I appreciate that they are semi enclosed so if it's raining I have more protection.

So I really don't let the negative reviews affect us, as what they were complaining about is not something that bothers me.

Actually, I'd bet there are more positive threads then negatives. But what happens to a glowing trip report ? The thread gets a handfull of "glad you had a great trip" s and by the end of the day it's buried on page 3.

However, if you want to see your thread generate some interest you need to phrase it something like " had a great trip BUT.......".
At that point it becomes the "BUT" thread and not the "had a great" thread.

More then anything else, I'd blame it on human nature. We love the dirt. But even moreso, we love to argue.

I had my first BWV stay last winter, and it was great. No trash in halls, no problems with noise, didn't mind the walk to the elevators even though I was towards the far end of the resort, room was great. And no bed bugs! ;)

I think people tend to post when there is a problem, and stay silent when things are fine. Probably 99% of DVC stays are great.

As a 4 year veteran of both DVC and the DIS I just have one piece of advice - don't let the negative people get to you.

These boards are great for finding out information and for the most part people are pretty positive. You will find a good mix of reviews, both positive and negative.

After reading for a while you will see trends with people. You will see that some are full of knowledge, some are willing to offer an honest opinion (both good and bad) and some just aren't happy unless they are complaining. I usually just ignore the posts of that last group.

BTW- I haven't stayed at SSR but did visit it during Member Homecoming and took a tour of the rooms. Looks like a wonderful place. We had lunch at Artist Palette and it was wonderful. Enjoy your trip!

peterpa,
I think that this board does bring to light some problems that might be experienced, which is a good thing--it helps to focus on areas where things can be improved. The trouble is the perspective. A lot of times folks will say that overall they had a wonderful time and everything was great, but the part that everyone focuses on is the stuff that goes wrong.
Really, if it gets things fixed that are broken and in need of repair, that is great. Then, when you check into the same room, it will be in perfect condition. People who bring these problems to the attention of management should be thanked--because the message to management is that we as members will not tolerate rooms that are not kept in excellant condition.
Also, if it helps a person to handle a situation that is less than satisfactory, that is great, too. I have learned so much about problem solving since reading this board that I go forth on vacation (anywhere--no just Disney :) ) with confidence. :) (My experience is no matter which resort you stay Disney or Non-Disney--even 5 star hotels, there is always a chance that things may not go perfectly-- :) )

I stayed at SSR for MH week and I enjoyed my accomodations very much--especially staying in bright, clean new accomodations. Since most of the rooms are under construction, I didn't know what to expect. It turns out, the construction didn't really impact me at all and my expectations were exceeded from that standpoint. So, this is at least one thumbs up for SSR. :)

There's always a "crisis of rising expectations" around the launch of something new, when it must be unveiled as a work in progress rather than a finished product. That happened when the new web site went live, and it's happening again with the opening of SSR. People's hopes for the finished product run ahead of the partly-done reality, and they feel disappointment. It's human nature.

As for the resort-bashing and the way it pulses from one location to another--who knows? Some of the bad experiences reported here are undoubtedly true. I suspect that the others come from Mars.

I could still stress over BCV reports but even still BCV resales are few and far between and the price is higher than others per point.
Obviously, people still want to stay there. :teeth:

EXACTLY, lenshanem.

I do not regret for one minute our purchase and add ons at the BCVs. 8 stays there so far and not one was a disappointment!

Since this post started about 24 hours ago there has been a report that there is a lot of fixing up going on at BCV. Maybe they have been reading these reports on this site. Like I have said before, I would stay at SSR but I would still be concerned about BCV. I am making final plans for my final 2 weeks down at WDW and will be staying at the Yacht Club or BWV rather than BC or BCV; there is not just housekeeping problems over there but it appears to be an attitude problem with the staff regarding DVC guests. The reports do have an effect on my decisions that is why they are so important. I heard enough about BCV to keep me away. I won't go near BC either because they have the same front desk.

Maybe we are just lucky, but we have stayed at BCV 7 or 8 times(last time in March) and are going back in Oct. and have never had a problem.

Have stayed in studio, 1 BR and 2 BR.

I am very picky about cleanliness and have never had a complaint. I have found that their people manning the front desk some of the best at any of the resorts.

I would just hate to see someone worrying about the problems after reading some of the posts.

Go and have a great time!

I totally agree with the OP'er, I am not sure I would have brought into DVC if I had read these boards first. But IMOH I think many people have gotten used to complaining in hopes of getting something for nothing. I do feel that professionalism for jobs is disappearing, but sometimes I wonder if it's because of the constant complaining. We have become a society where it has to be fast and perfect. I would rather spend a little extra time seeing someone perform their job duties correctly, without making a face or complaining. I totally agree with the majority of posters who have said, don't let others be the guide of you actions. I have always had a great time at Disney, and didn't feel the need to complain about one thing. Also with regaurd to some of the postings on this (or any) board...a lot of it can be opinions, and rumor. Read it if you want, but don't base your actions on it alone.

I think many of the "negative threads" are fun to read. If the worst thing wrong with a vacation is a CM who doesn't say "Welcome Home" or a crayon mark is on a piece of furniture then thats fine by me. I have stayed at BCV, BWV and OKW and have liked all three. They were all three distinctly different and that is good. I think some of the rooms in BWV and OKW are looking old and tired, but that's just me thinking.

I do get very amused, sometimes just have to shake my head when I see extreme reactions of some posters. People making major decisions based on the subjective opinions of other folks they have never met. Truely amazing.
