Anyone ever use Mobile Magic?

OK I give up. We just have to see how much its costs us on my son's phone with a data plan when we buy it around 6 months before my May trip. :confused3

Ya, got me confused [my fault] :). Will simplify it down.

The data-plan is enabling data-bandwidth to your son's phone.

Some data-plans come with an allotment of bandwidth. If you exceed that allotment, there are additional fees. Now I really don't know the specifics of your plan, and unfortunately, I'm going to work now so can't research it for you.

The 9.99$ dataplan should include some data / mnth in it. If you don't exceed the allotment provided by the plan, that should be all you have to pay for data usage.

That said, I don't know the specifics of your plan. It may be 9.99$ for just 'enabling data', and then 1.99$ /mb after that. I doubt this personally, but can't be sure.

Why couldn't it be the Verizon app?

He was on the MK train heading to Frontierland so he was in the park that he was getting times for.

Ah, I misread...if he was on the MK train, then yes he could have been using the Verizon app.

It costs you $9.99 to use the app for 180 days, which is definitely stated.

It MAY cost you $1.99 to download the app initially. If you have a data plan, then it will be charged against your data plan's MB limit. If you don't have one, then you will be charged the minimum amount of data...I just checked, and pay-as-you-go data is $1.99/MB, billed in 1MB increments. So long as the app is less than 1MB, that is how much the download will cost.

As already stated, you should not be charged for data usage in using the app. You are basically pre-paying that in the fee for the application.

Has anyone used the Lines from Touring Plans/Unofficial Guide? I was just wondering how the 2 compared. I don't want to buy both. Thanks!

Basically the Verizon app gets its data directly from Disney. If you go to RnRC and see standby 30 and fast pass return 7:45 you will see the same info on your phone. You can only run it on certain Verizon Phones and there are no further data charges.

Lines uses historical data (the same that they use for their Touring Plans) and user entered times to predict true wait times. So when the standby says 30 minutes they may predict a "real" wait time of 20 minutes which what they think you will really wait in standby. Lines can't adjust for break downs though. You can run Lines on any phone that can connect to the internet and unless you have a data plan, you will be charged for data.

I called and talked to Verizon. My phone is compatable and I only have unlimited talk and text. She said exactly what you have said: 9.99 for 180 days to use the MM and it will cost me 1.99 to download the app to my phone and then nothing will be charged to me after that for me to use it.

She actualy wrote all that on my account in case they charge me something different, I can call back and they will see in the notes on my account, that she quoted me the above amounts.

I hope that helps everyone.

Leaving in 10 days and I can't wait!

I have verizon so Im leaning towards the real time Magic app. My understanding is the fee actually ends up being $12...$2 to download, $10 for the app. Only problem is it will only work on DD phone (env3) and this trip is a surprise for her! Have to figure out how to be sneaky since I do want to see how it works before we actually leave.

We used it back in March when we were at WDW. And we LOVED it! It helped us to know whether it was worth it to run and get a FP because it displayed the times it was available. Wait times listed were very accurate and that was nice because it also helped us not waste time running over to a ride only to find that the ride had a long line. I would start running the app as I approached the gates so I knew as soon as I got through which direction I was going. We really loved it and will never go without utilizing it again, it was well worth the $9.99!

That can be difficult. There's the trial [which downloading will cost you data-usage, so the 2$ fee here]. There are a few youtube videos it looks like, but nothing too great to get a feel for it without just downloading the trial. Of course, now I'm curious to see how the program is laid out for the env3 because of that phone's large inner screen.

On a different note, I want to thank Doconeill for clarifying the issue with cost, I got nice and confused and was having difficulty explaining it clearly :).

And I just noticed something neat from the transportation tool in the Mobile Magic, you can tag your parking location.

Just got back a few minutes ago and can tell you that the app is a real time saver.

You can't really get a grasp of how good it is until you are actually in the parks.

That's when it tells actual times and fast pass times if they are still available. Some of the more popular rides the fast passes were gone by 12:30pm.

It was the best 10 bucks I spent on the trip.

Thanks for reporting back. I leave in 3 days and have been playing around with it at home setting up my favorites and playing games. This is save me a huge amount of time running from one side of the park to the other for fast passes and then finding out they are gone.

Did you use the character feature? Just wondering if you found it to be accurate

No we didnt use the character feature. We had no little ones with us so we were more concerned with the rides.

One other note is that it only gives you the exact times in the park you are in.

So you can"t be in the Magic Kingdom and check exact times in Hollywood Studios but it does give you the generic listings like when you try it from home. Moderate wait etc.

Has anyone "registered their trip" on the mobile magic site? You can put in your dates and it will send you texts. But I don't want to get a million junk texts from every Disney partner. I was wondering if they send you anything useful. TIA.

I downloaded it yesterday and we have been playing around checking wait times and FP availability. The Disney Parks Trivia game is fun too.

I looked and had an old trip in the system. Inever got any extra emails orjunk texts. In fact, I never got anything.

FWIW, we got back 1.5 wks ago from a 5 day trip.

Mobile Magic isn't available to us (I have a Droid and dh a Blackberry) so I downloaded WDWLines from my Touring Plan account and it ROCKED!

Everything was spot on and all the functionality works everywhere (including back home in PA)!!

Worth every penny and I can't wait to use it when we go back next August!

oh really?? I am so happy to hear this...my issue is I have a Lotus, which is a flip phone and I want to subscribe to the Lines too but I dont know how convenient it will be for me and as the face is more square, I dont know how it will be formatted. I have seriously just considered getting a new phone.

To see what it will look like go to m.touringplans.com and you will see a mini version of what you will get.

The version that is available now only shows the wait times (See Now, Moderate, High Demand) for some of the attractions at each park. Does it show wait times for all attractions when you are in the park?

The Verizon application will only show you specific information (in minutes, FP return times, etc.) for all attractions while you are in that specific park.

Outside the park you get what you said, although I thought it still did it for all applications.

Lines won't work on the Lotus which is the only reason I upgraded to the Palm Pixie. I loved my Lotus it was nearly perfect, except for not working with Lines issue.

I only see nine attractions at Epcot under wait times.
