Has anyone ever used Allegiant Air? If so, what are your opinions on it versus a larger airline? We have this offered to us just an hour from our home, versus driving 3 hours to fly a bigger airline. The cost for the four of us roundtrip departing Sunday and returning the following Sunday is just $597. We live 15+ hours away and have calculated our gas at a minimum of $450 (using $4.00/gal). We drive a large SUV. I do not like to fly at all and I'm a little uneasy flying on a smaller airline. I price checked Southwest and it was $1396 for the same days roundtrip. Yikes! Thanks for any help!

We live just outside Toronto and just flew from Youngstown, Ohio to St.Petersburgh Clearwater airport. It was a 4hr drive for us but well worth the drive. I got 4 tickets for $496.00 total. We just took carry on luggage so no extra fees and open seating as well so no extra fees. To fly from Canada the fares and extra taxes and surcharges are out of this world. They wanted $2700 for 4 tickets. We are flying back tomorrow after fantastic weather in the 80's all week.

Make sure you include the booking fee, seat selection fee and fee to check your bag before you complete your comparison. I think Allegiant flies into Sanford. You'll also need to include the cost to get from the airport to WDW, if you would otherwise use DME.

We actually are going to buy our tickets at the airport ticket counter over the weekend (I think) to save ourselves $120 (the online booking fee). Also, I got a great deal for a rental car through hotwire for $121 for 7 days (full size car). I am hoping to upgrade to a midsize SUV when we arrive :). If not, the full size car will be fine. We are taking a Disney Cruise so the car will be just left in the port for 4 days. Thanks!

I thought the online booking fee was around $15 per passengers. The other fees are taxes and security fees which you'll still have to pay. Check the hours Allegiant is selling tickets at your airport. Hours may be very limited. Make sure you consider the cost, if any, to park at the airport.

great deal on the rental car wow!!1, when did you book that?

We flew Allegiant just after Christmas and it was fine. They fly MD80s, which are more comfortable than most commuter jets. We've avoided Allegiant in the past because they only have one flight on the days they do fly to Orlando, and they don't fly there every day of the week (from FWA). This was sort of a last-minute getaway, not one of our full-blown DVC vacations, so we were less worried about a schedule problem. As another poster noted, their a la carte pricing can be a bit deceiving, but for us the price and the ability to go non-stop from FWA were attractive.

MM1102....we are from Fort Wayne, and I have been looking at flying from FWA. My main concern is flying into Sanford and the cost of transfers, or car rental. What did you do and how long was the drive/ride to WDW?

You booked the car to be picked up at the Sanford airport right? Just didn't one you to end up in one airport with the car at another one.

Hey, Melissa--we rented an Alamo car when we booked the Allegiant tickets; we weren't staying on property, so we wanted to have a car anyway. It was about an hour from Sanford to the other side of WDW. Sanford is a bit bigger than the Fort Wayne airport, but not a lot--pretty painless to manage luggage, rental car, etc.

Love Allegiant! Love Sanford! Easy drive to Disney area, easy in and out airport. Watch the fees. We never pay for seating and have always had seats together. We don't pay for pre-boarding, if the over head area is full they will gate check your bags.
Also if you book the car through Allegiant be careful they do not charge the taxes and fees when you book:
Taxes, surcharges and fees are not part of your package price and will be collected by Alamo at time of auto rental pick up. Fees are the same for all rental car companies and are based on car size and season. Fees may include: Concession Recoupment Fee, Surcharge/Tire Battery Fee, License Recoupment Fee, state tax, and drop fee. Total may vary at time of rental based on the election of prepaid gas, optional coverage items or changes in taxes, surcharges and fees.

Still is my favorite ride to Orlando.

We have booked Allegiant for our flights to Orlando/Sanford. I have not flown them before but I was going to comment that the plane is a MD80 which is the same size American Airlines use with 2 seats on one side, ailse inbetween, and 3 seats on the other. Its a full size plane. Looking forward to trying it out see how it goes. Smaller airports etc... did not like all the nickle and dime fees but we have 2 small kids so paid for assigned seating and one checkon bag. Hope we have a good experince, will keep ya posted.
