Anyone ever had a really bad experience at Whispering Canyon?

We thought the food was pretty good but the service was horrible. We went to try it out because there were so many more good reviews than bad but if it's always the way we experienced it... NO THANKS!!! I'd like to give it another shot someday but with all the great food and better service at other restaurants, it will be awhile

The food was good, and filling. But the server was a dud!! We heard/saw several other table having a blast and we got the dud.

This would be us if we went. We would get the dud of the bunch. I dont plan on going there with our stay in october.

I think it depends on your wait person. Ours was ng. I also do not like dry rub BBQ so if I should ever try it again I would order off the menu.

We've dined at WCC and PTC three times each. Our record is 1/3 for each restaurant. Only once at each place did we have a "fun" server and good service. On our last trip in Jan., we were actually staying at US at that point in our vacation, but went to WCC for lunch (since the kids had so-ooo much fun there on our last trip). Our server this time was new, and didn't do a thing. He was nice and friendly, but handed my daughter the straws instead of tossing them (all of the tables around us had interactive servers that were throwing the straws, etc.) You would think since we had 3 kids with us, that he would have done SOMETHING fun. On our first trip there, we were seated in the far back room. They didn't even tell us when the pony express races were. BUT...in May of '05, we had a fabulous time there. Our server made the hats for the kids, was a lot of fun, and that night they had all of the kids dancing on their chairs, and then made the dads do a "buttercup" dance that was such a hoot! We had the exact same experience with Prime Time. On our first two visits, the waiter introduced himself as "Cousin ___" and that was it. No joking around, nothing. On our May '05 trip, we had a wonderful server who made my DH take his "hat off at the table, get his elbows off the table" and she then made airplane noises while she fed him his vegetables. While this kind of entertainment wouldn't be so fun without my kids, with kids it was a blast. They still talk about it to this day. I guess I would say to try the WCC. The WL is so beautiful. Take a walk around the resort, stop at the gift shop, and hope for the best.

Does WC do anthing crazy for special occasions. This will be our 12th anniversary. I'm trying to think of something fun to do with the kids nothing romantic. Weird huh?

:surfweb: My DH thinks I'm nuts because I sit in my Mickey PJS surfing the boards with my Mickey Mug. It's a great life what can I say!

I've only been there once, and it was just me and a girlfriend. We had Billy the Kid as a server, and he was great. He realized we weren't as "into" the games, but enjoyed watching the other tables. He did a couple little jokes with us, and really was in character and interacting with the other servers. By the time we left our cheeks ached from laughing.

To be honest, I don't remember the food that well! I know I had a steak that was good...my friend had a pasta dish that she was eh about. But our overall impression was good and I would definitely go back.

Hated it......

My 6 year old son is a bit reserved he actually teared up and would not eat. WC took his meal off of the ticket and that was nice. From my perception the overall scheme just doesn't work. At first its amusing, but quickly annoying. I could have lived with all that though. What iced it for me in terms of not returning was the quality of food. I just wasn't much on the dinner, particularly the ribs. The breakfast was better, which was our second meal there. Since we were staying at WL we gave it a second shot and I had hoped the breakfast at least would be quiet.... nope, still loud, maybe not as bad as dinner and its been a few years, but I believe I recall the staff still yelling the bad jokes....... what really sealed the deal for me though was when our party ran out of sausage and they brought 2 or 3 links out on a saucer for 4 people. I thought, "You have got to be joking." This is one to which we will not return.

Really I think a lot has to do with the personality of your family... we are on the quieter end of the spectrum, so it just wasn't our cup of tea. There are probably as many or more that love the place. Food quality at dinner is not worth the price IMHO, and I think that is where you should turn away from it and look for something better.

I apologize. I know you posted for really bad experiences...but we had only the opposite on our visit.

Oh my gosh...we loved this place. We went last fall for the first time in years and had so much fun not to mention a great meal.. We were there at lunchtime so it wasn't packed (crowded..but not packed). The service was fantastic....the servers were funny but not obnoxious...and our meals were great! The chef even came over to our table to discuss with my 14 yr old his allergy to peanuts. My son wanted to order desserrt...chocolate..none the less...but they all seem to have nuts. The chef made him something special just for him without any nuts. My son said it was great....plus it was CHOCOLATE.....lol The chef even came back in person to follow up....all I can say is WOW.....:) My husband and I both had a smoked house stacked sandwich on focaccia bread. This sandwich was so huge...I only ate half of mine. It was awesome! My hubby agreed. We have already made our ADRs for this summer. I can't say anything at all bad about this place. We truly enjoyed ourselves and our service was above and beyond outstanding.

Remember...if you go into a restaurant and receive poor service, ask for a manager. They need to have that relayed onto them. My husband and I both will to ask for a manager after a meal. I have asked for bad experiences..and I have also asked for managers after great experiences :). I will also tip well if I have a great meal/service. If you feel you did not receive a meal or service that was up to par ANYwhere at any restaurant then the mgr needs to have that relayed to them so as not to repeat it in the future. We can post on the boards all day but that won't change it. My family and I recently had a very poor experience at a local Lone Star Steakhouse. I sent them an email the very next morning. I had a district mgr call me back at 9:00am and wanted to know all about it. He could not have been any kinder and he expressed the feedback I had sent was very helpful to him. He even sent us a gift certificate to come back and have our meal again (did not expect this). They do listen!

enjoy your trip,
Esmerelda

I can also say we had a wonderful time at WCC for dinner. It was one of the highlights of our trip and the server made our kids 13 & 8 crack up laughing. The food was excellent (chix pasta, sirloin steak, AYCE skillet and kids' drumsticks). Everyone enjoyed their meal. Never saw pony races or anything like it.

Maybe we just "hit" it at the right time. We had an ADR for 5:10, so they had just opened for dinner and the servers had just come on for their shift and everyone in the restaurant seemed to enjoy their vist, even the adults without kids were enjoying themselves.

Our server was John, he was excellent, attentive and we liked him instantly.

Oh my god YES
First I asked the waitress for a drink refill and she seemed annoyed.
So I asked if there was a problem and she said what is it of your business ,then
she spit in my drink and punched my daughter in the face and kicked me in the nuts then smashed the skillet over my wifes head.To top it all off a week later
she showed up at my house and ran my doggy over with her rent-a-car.
Glad I only left a 10% tip. But the food was good :) :rotfl2:
OMG you scared me :scared:  LOL!!!! I gasped at the spit in my drink part thank God I kept reading LOL

I know you're not supposed to expect any of the antics to happen, but all the surrounding tables had a lot of interaction with their servers, and we got zip. The food was only so-so. we won't be eating here again.

We had the exact same experience. We will not return.

We were there about 3 years ago and will NEVER return. We personally witnessed several cases of public humiliation.

At breakfast one morning, a diner borrowed a bottle of ketchup from the next table because the server never came back to check to see if they needed anything. When the server spotted the bottle of ketchup, she loudly asked where it came from. When the diner said it was borrowed from the next table, the server stood on a chair and announced that this person was a ketchup thief and ordered the diner to ride around the restaurant on a stick horse and say they would never steal ketchup again. You could tell by the tears in her eyes that she was terribly humiliated.

Another time, a family was eating with their young son. The son wanted dessert. He ordered ice cream with cookies. The child only ate the cookies, so the father finished up the ice cream. When the server came by and saw the father eating the ice cream, he loudly shouted that the father had stolen the child's ice cream. He also said "Does this man look like he needs to be eating ice cream?" Yes, the father was over weight. He looked like he wanted to crawl under the table.

Needless to say, we won't return and risk this happening to us.

Our experience was watching everybody else have fun. The food was great. but our waiter was just a regular server. I felt bad for the girls, because that is why we went, I thought they would have fun.

WOW! The ketchup thing would be fun to me but if I was uncomfortable in that situation I would just have said no to doing it.

OK we went with 4 kids. They didnt do a thinkg for the kids including other tables getting the hats from the napkins and ours getting nothing the kicker was when my freinds son got sick at the table and the server kind of ignoring us until my freind made a huge fuss about it. The server didnt even get us napkins or anything else to help clean it up. I know she wont go back I may but not sure.

::yes:: No one's forcing anyone to do anything.

I checked out the dinner reviews of WCC and found most to be positive so decided our party was going. There were 9 of us and they seated us at a large round table. Everyone liked their food and everyone agreed...Nothing spectacular but good. The problem was the way we were treated.... AND the people a few tables away who had a different waitstaff!!!! The ketchup thing was fun and one of the waitresses did a little dance that was hysterically funny BUT... It was like we were "slopped like hogs and pushed out of the way" and it was likewise for our "neighbors" a few tables away. We were very rushed by the staff. The whole meal was rushed and at the end...They just banged our desserts and coffee in front of us and the fun and games were over for sure. They made it clear we were to eat and go... We were on the dining plan and this was one place we got served without an extra tip left. With so many nice restaurants on the dining plan list... I doubt I would ever plan for our family to go back again... After being there and having this experience... AND... not only witnessed it ourselves but with another table with another waitstaff!!!! I don't see what the big push is and the raving reviews are for this place.... There are restaurants that have great character/waitstaff interaction without being treated like this.....

I have been to WCC twice, and loved it both times! In fact, DBF loves it so much that he got really upset when he found out I didn't make an ADR for our upcoming trip, so I had to call last week to add a breakfast ADR in. It does really depend on your server, one time we had a server who was into all the antics, and another we had a waitress who was just getting over laringitis and couldn't scream and yell, so we just had fun watching everyone else. You really have to have a good sense of humor to eat here, and be willing to act like a little kid to get in on the games - it's definitely not for everyone. Also, the second time we went was over Labor Day weekend and it was PACKED - we waited a long time for our waiter to bring us anything, but instead of getting upset about it we just relaxed and watched the antics going on around us - hey, we were on vacation, so why get all riled up, right? :sunny:

was it really busy ? Maybe people were waitning or it was time to close? i ask cause when we went for brkfst we were there almost 1 1/2 hrs by choice, loitering over our coffee and watching the fun and never felt rushed at all but it wasn't busy.( full but since it was almost 11 or so when we left, no one waiting)

dinner was the same way for us although since we go off season, it's not so crazy packed. we went after mk closed and stayed for a while with no problem :confused3
