Did you ever change your first name? Did you legally change it too?

I've never been a fan of my name and have always wanted to change it. We're moving to PA soon, so I thought this could be my chance to finally do it.

Kinda... I more changed the spelling of it-

My birth name was Amalie pronounced as Am A Lee but everyone pronounced it as Amelia... Well I didnt take to kindly yo that and hit most people who pronounced it wrong... I eventually started spelling it as emily cause well NOONE mispronounces that...

A few years ago when I got married I legally changed it to emily-

I should've done it back then, it would've been a lot easier. Oh well.

BTW I love Emily, great name!

My aunt did. She was 30 when she changed it. I'd always thought that it was a nickname. Her name now is Diane. Her birth name was Nannibell........

My soon to be BIL did, from Brian to Ethan.

My fiance is thinking about changing his last name because he has nothing to do with his father, never did and he would rather use his grandfather's name (mother's madien) name to carry it down the family....

I told him I didn't care as long as he did it before we got married because I won't change my name more than once!!!

That's my middle name! I've never met another Amalie before! I never liked it when I was growing up because it was so unusual. Add it to my less-commonly spelled first name and you get a wanting-to-conform child's worst nightmare. Now that I'm older I love if for the exact reasons I hated it as a child. Go figure!

I had a friend from high school change his middle name from Mayo to Kyle as soon as he was old enough to do it legally.

Ironically enough, he goes by his first name anyway so I never understood the point.

I understand the middle name! Many times I have thought of adding a middle name. My parents didn't give me or my sisters any. And now with a very common last name, a middle name would really help! At this point I would think something a little unusual, but I haven't done anything. All my life I WANTED a middle name!! People who have one have the choice of using it or not. Of including the entire middle name, an initial, or nothing in their signature. I don't have that option! Just the first and last name. :( My confirmation name is Marie, and I always thought I may as well choose that for my middle name, but right now it's not my legal name. :(

I LEGALLY CHANGED DS'S name! In my grief of losing my husband just 5 months before DS was born, I basically discarded the name I had chosen and named him after my husband. It wasn't the right thing for me. After just 9 weeks, I legally changed his name. And due to my lack of having a middle name, DS has 2! So he is Richard Keith Edward...Richard, the name I've always loved; Keith, after his dad; and Edward, after my dad. :teeth:

Just out of curiosity, what do you want to change your name to/from?

And for those of you that have changed you name.... Was it difficult and what did it cost you? DS would love his legal name to be Jake. I named him John (after my Dad), with full intentions of calling him Jake (my Dad's nickname at work). He wants to know why didn't I just NAME him Jake, and ya know what? I don't have a good answer. Well, except there's no "Saint" Jake!

I changed mine on my Birth Certificate a few years ago (from Edith to Edie). I needed a lawyer to draft a letter (that was the only expense) and proof that I was known as "Edie" -- magazine subscriptions, credit cards, etc. My library card put it over the top.

It was a lot cheaper than going to court and having a judge change it.

I know someone who accidentally changed their childs first name!! They were legally changing the childs surname as they had just re-married and the solicitor made a mistake on the official document!! The child had a name with a wierd spelling (which I had never figured anyway!) and the solicitor spelt it how it would have 'normally' been spelt. It wasn't until I commented to the parent that she had changed the spelling of the first name too that she realsied what had happened! Then she had to pay again to have the name changed back!

my brother had his name changed at 16, right before he got his drivers license. My parents couldn't decide what to name him so they named him Jonathan (first) Logan (middle) a couple of days later, they decided they didn't like that, and decided to name him Jason (first) with two middle names, Lang Walker, and instead of just changing it on the birth certificate then, they just always called him that, and that is what he was registered for in school, and everything, so before he got his drivers license, unless he wanted it to say Jonathan Logan, he had to get it changed.
