anyone ever been on a ride when it broke down???

We were right in the middle of Splash Mnt. when it decided to break down. Sat their for 45 minutes before we were escorted out. Got to see some very interesting behind the scenes stuff.

This was during an E-ride night, so we only had an hour (I think) to go thru the MK. We decided to do Space Mountain. I was in the first car, first seat. We get to the very top of the first (takeoff) and the ride stops. I feel as if I am hanging over the edge. Then all the lights go on, now we can see how far up we are. After waiting 15 mins I tell the guy I want off. I am wasting the money I spent on the E-ride ticket waiting at the top of Space Mountain. After I said I wanted off, everyone else on the cart got off also. It was cool, I got to walk thru Space Mountain with the lights on from the top to the bottom.

we got stuck in It's a small world for what seemd like at least a century but was really only 15 mins or sobut long enough to make sure it's last time i will ever set foot in that one. happily we had a boat full of witty anti- small world cynics and it made the time pass

Just Curious...

:bounce:

don't know how sane I was before hand but think it's about the same degree of insanity now except for that crazy recurring night mare about "the dolls"...

I think it was back in 1990 - was at DW for my first solo vacation and got stuck in IASW. At first, the first 15 minutes that incessant, song REALLY gets to you but what was worse? is that we were in the area where they sang it in another language. I was in the front of the first boat with some little kids and their Mom behind me. There was another boat behind us but I couldn't make out their speech - it sounded like clattering typewriters.

After 15 minutes, the music stopped and all the lights went out. Total and complete pitch blackness. The little kids started to whimper and then cry. No soothing CMs to check on us, nothing. It was so black you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. I had a light on my watch and after 10 minutes, I decided I had had enough! I climbed out of the boat - the water is only 3.5 feet deep. Climbed on the catwalk and used my little timex watch light to try and find a way out to get help. One of the men in the other boat had a lighter and he tosses it at me - it's probably still at the bottom of IASW! (Piece of advice: If it's really dark, throwing something at someone unless you alert them, has a slim chance of being caught).

I found a door and pushed it open - there were CMs on the other side but they couldn't get in -they told me later they were magnetically sealed. It turns out that lightening had struck the WDW transformer and their backup generator only did so much.

As for the people in the boat behind me - it truly is a small world after all - the boat contained my best friend and her family. They're from Argentina and I hadn't seen her in 10 years!
Doo-do do-do:eek:

BTW - CMs were glad I took initiative. Since I was soaked - they gave me Disney clothes and their limo took me back to my hotel. They gave me a limo for the rest of my stay and when they found out about my best friend - they treated all of us to dinner at The Contemporary. Now I don't mind that song so much.

REALLY good reason not to ever ride IASW ever again...DH seems to think it's not a Disney trip 'til we've ridden. I think it's just payback for never turning his undies right side out when I do the laundry!:p

I got stuck on TOT right in the 4th Dimension room and right after the doors opened. It gave me a chance to look at some of the hidden components to TOT. Everyone just sat there and were pretty calm. Finally, we got into the shaft and fell in the light! We all got to ride again without waiting!

I also got stuck on Primeval Whirl right before going up the lift hill. They had to evacuate everyone off the ride, which I videotaped. :)

This is part of going to WDW. My DW was on Body Wars once when power went out to Epcot. I squirrel or frog got into an open transformer and blew out the power. She was stuck inside the dark ride for a good twenty minutes. I was outside with the kids waiting to do a baby swap.

I have been on Its a Small World and Splash Moutain when these rides dieds.

1 time on Star Tours due to minor problem, but got a extra ride out of it(stuck door)

1 time on IASW but was in the snide and cynic boat so it was fun(and only 5 or so minutes)

I wasn't on one when it broke down, but....I had just finished finished riding space mountain when the latch on the belt wouldn't release. They had to stop the ride to try and get me out and they finally had to take me behind the scenes, where they take the cars to work on them. I was there for 30 minutes before I got out. They were really nice, they brought me a coke and gave us comp passes for a trip to the front of the ride. Of course it helped that the guy was very cute.

Last trip we got stuck on the Maelstrom in Norway. We had been riding backwards and we went through that door right before you go over the fall thing. Well we just stopped. And those poor people from Norway had no idea what to do. They were trying to find a mechanic. It was really funny. They wouldn't let us move for like a half hour. Finally they evacuated us and took us through the back door. It's a good thing those Norway boys are so cute cause they helped pass the time.

We were on test track when it broke down last year. It was really strange going around the track at a snails pace.

We broke down twice on splash last month- wasnt too horrifying, but the second time we were under the mini waterfall just after the drop so we were totally soaked when we got off the ride! :(

Well, the ride itself did not break down, but when Test Track first opened up, the seatbelt on my seat did not unlock when we arrived back to the loading area. While they were waiting for the maintenance tech, they let me ride it again.

My favorite breakdown was my daughter's first ride on BTM. I'd convinced her to try it, and the entire ride she screamed, grabbed me and generally let me know I was an unfit mother. Then, we stopped. Right by the boulder that is crashing down. I really thought we were going to be turned in to the police as I was SURE that Rachel would find some way to escape the car. Wrong! The little rugrat that moments before was screaming in my ear, sat there and yelled "Why did it stop? I love it!"

We were at the Studios the week after it opened, and the Movie Ride broke down...20 minutes in front of Mary Poppins and Chim-Chiminey isn't much better than IASW! Haven't watched the movie since.

Broke down on Snow White and got to walk out. Great cast member who activated many of the effects on our way out. Very interesting. Made us almost glad that it broke down!
