anyone ever been on a ride when it broke down???

Is there anybody who is still sane that has been stuck in the Small world ride:o ?

Just Curious...

:bounce:

I got stuck in It's A Small World, but only for a few minutes. I don't think the song was any more firmly lodged in my head than it would have been otherwise, though. :p

I too got stuck on Spaceship Earth in the pitch dark facing backwards for 15 minutes or so. I almost didn't mind... it was a great place to catch a nap. :)

My children's first trip to WDW was bracketed by breakdowns at SM and BTMRR. Our first time on SM we got stopped just past the steamboat/celebration part at the end. Thankfully, the music was shut off after about 10 minutes, but the animatronic characters kept moving - very eerie. We were quite tired of watching Brer Bear and Brer Fox fight their way out of the briars! I was worried about my mother (68 y/o) who we'd left outside, but she was laughing when we finally got to her - turns out she'd overheard some CM's talking about it and just *knew* we'd be involved! We were in there about 20 minutes.

On our last day we got stuck in the first part of BTMRR - the mine cave or whatever it is. Although DS (4) had loved the ride, he'd been terrified of that portion the entire trip and almost lost it when we stopped! The lights came on almost immediately and DS got to see that it isn't so scary there after all - for that I'm happy about the breakdown! I was surprised at the amount of bubble gum all over the floor/track area in there - no wonder Walt didn't want it sold in the park! This wait was close to 30 minutes and the sound was unbearably loud. No one could understand what the CM was trying to say, mostly because we all clapped our hands to our ears in pain with each announcement. One we were freed, the train took us on 2 consecutive trips, not even stopping at the loading platform in between. That was cool!

I've been stuck on the Universe of Energy more times, and for more time than I can recount. I refused to ride it for several trips cause when you get stuck in there, it takes forever to get moving again.

The worst time was the last time we rode it before they did the Ellen-makeover. We were stuck in the ride vehicle for 45 minutes, they sent CM's out who weren't in uniform who were manually driving the cars. People got really mad and started trying to climb out, it's one of the few times I've ever heard a CM shout. He was yelling that people shouldn't climb out of the cars, because they could lose a limb when they started moving again. He really seemed panicked, I felt bad for him. Some people did climb out, but most stayed seated.

A couple times we were stuck in there for brief periods and at funny locations, I remember one time my sisters and I singing several rounds of the "Energy" song to the amusement of our fellow riders LOL.

More stops on SE and IASW than I can count, all brief. The scariest thing I've ever seen though was last time we rode IASW the little spinning skater girl was stuck. She was making this horrible ca-chunk noise as her gears ground, and I smelled something burning. When we got off we reported it to the CM's and they shut her circuit breaker off...

We also had to walk out of Thunder Mountain. It was interesting to see the makeup of the mountain. Also stopped at the end of TOT. We sat in the dark for about 5 minutes untill we had to be pushed back by hand.

In 1999 at Epcot.

We were stuck on Spaceship Earth for about 15 mins, my DS3 continuously said 'I want to go home', 'I want to go home' and was starting to get a bit upset when it finally started up again. he's now 7 and still remembers being stuck and doen't want to go on the ride ever again.

We were stuck in It's a Small World for 10 minutes.
The song can't get on your nerves after all that time.
We ended up having to walk out of the ride by a side exit.

DH and DS4 (who is now 9) were getting ready to boad "Splash Mountain" when DS says "Hey Mark, I have to potty"! Having waited two hours, DH asked him if he could wait. "Sure"! Well, the ride broke down! After about 10 minutes, DS turned to DH (and everyone heard!) and calmly said, "Sorry Mark, but I just pottied in the boat"!!!:o

:p :p :p

We were on Ellen's Energy Adventure (10/02) when it broke down in the dinosaur diorama. IT WAS GREAT! We really got a good look around and got to walk out through the diorama. The cast was great about it too! To let us know what was happening, a woman with a NY accent came over the PA and said "We're sorry, but Ellen's Energy Adventure has just run out of energy."

Ah...the memories! :D

Last trip we were stranded on Splash Mountain for 30 minutes. We were directly underneath a speaker at the part where Brer Bear gets caught in the trap. It about blasted us out with the constant "Your ride will resume immediately". Then to top it off, some brainiac got out of the boat and started walking out of the ride. The SM police started shouting, "Stay right where you are, we see you, we are sending a cast member to you right now, do not move" I am sure that that slowed ther restoration down a bit.

We have stopped several times on SE, but since they are about 5 minutes each, I assume they are for handicap loading.

However, on Test Track, we got stuck on the incline right before you are going back in - it was NOT a comfy angle. We were NOT offered any fastpasses which was ok at the time, but the more I think about it - it would have been at least nice of them to offer it - we were the furthest car back and I was half hanging at a side-angle. I don't think I could have climbed right back on at that time though, anyway.

We were stuck on Splash Mtn. about !/3 of the way when you start up the hill to the first small drop. It was really cool because we were able to look back to Frontierland and watch the Mickey Mania parade!

Personal experiences: Got stuck on the Great Movie Ride near the John Wayne diorama, and later the scene from Casablanca. The CM pointed out hidden mickeys, and moved in desperation to who's from the farthest away, and birthday and other events. We sang happy birthday to someone!

I've stopped by the Roman scene in Spaceship Earth for much longer than a wheelchair load, and also in the HM near the man with the dog outside the cemetary.

Probably the best family story was Christmas 2001 (it was very cold). Youngest DS and I chose not to ride (didn't want to get wet) and DH, older DS, and DD went on Splash. They got stuck 3 cars from the lift to the big drop. It took 45 minutes to evacuate the ride, but the 3 of them loved seeing backstage areas when it was finally their turn. (They seemed to evacuate closest areas to the loading area first). Younger DS and I knew it would be a long wait when they even turned the water off, and you could see metal plates on the big drop from outside!! We received front of the line passes for all 5 of us to any attraction--later we chose Space.

Mine was a while ago...back in 1983, my cousin and I were on If You Had Wings when it stopped in the speed room. I remember very clearly that we sat there...and we sat there...and we sat there...after a while, some people started groaning and complaining that they were going to be sick (probably from the movement of the speed film). Finally, we heard one of those recorded announcements - it said "This ride has come to a stop." No kidding! We'd only been sitting there for 10-15 minutes at that point! My cousin (who is 6 years older than me!) started freaking out a little about how to get out if the cars were broken, and I pointed out that there was an exit right next to our car. She calmed down a little and said, "No, we can't get out. We'll just wait." Eventually they got us moving again, but my aunt and uncle, who were waiting for us, were quite worried that we didn't show up for so long!

Way back in the 70's, we got stuck on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I do not exaggerate when I say that we sat in that 'submarine' for more than 90 minutes. Yuck! Far too many hot and sweaty people confined to a small space! When I read threads about people wishing that ride was still around, I just cringe!

Back in 78 my brothers and I were on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. When you came to the part of the ride where you about to run into the train and immediately turn you betya my care decided to take on the train. We came off the tracks and hit the train. We sat there for about ten minutes. It was kindof funny. My mom tells me that she was out there waiting. The car before me comes out then no more cars. It took about five minutes and finally the castmembers start to look frantic. We were able to get a free tickets for another ride. From that day I understood that playing chicken had consequences.

I got stuck on "it's a small world"

Of course this was my first ride ever at disney world. We where stuck for a good 20 min... And the worst part about it (besides hearing that song over and over and over) was we were so close to the exit! We could just see it! But there was nothing we could do...

Piglet1234, that would give my nightmares for years to come lol!! "It's a small world after all......" YIKES!!:p

ONe of my earliest memories ever of WDW is getting stuck in SE right in front of the invention of paper/papyrus. We were in that seat, tilted backwards for a good long time. And I got realy wheezy on the smell of smoke.

We also got stuck in the dinosaur panorama in the Universe of Energy, a long time before Ellen was there. I also thought that was very cool; I was a teen at the time and could lord it over the younger members of the family by pointing out how fake they really were (forgive me Mickey, I'm reformed now).

And finally, I am such a jinx when it comes to TT, that I have not, in all it's years of operation and in all my visits, ever ridden on it. All I have to do is walk into the park for it to malfunction. So, you all might not want to go in October!!! LOL

I believe it was 11/00 when lightening hit SE while we were inside. We were, however, at an enjoyable spot reclining (right after it turned around for your descent back to earth) and could still see the earth and hear the music. We sat there for about 20 minutes when they finally had to have us walk out. Not as pretty with all the lights on!

Also enjoyed our delayed drop on Space Mtn... we were stuck at the top of the hill with the vultures for a while.

HM has stopped several times... it's best when you have a view of the ballroom scene. Lots of things there you don't catch on your normal ride. But I wish they would turn down the sound! WHEW! That's some LOUD narration!

And what was that TRAVEL related ride (In Horizons?)? We got stuck in the part which showed what people in the 50's thought future travel would be like... it was a neon painted/black light George Jetson type world. Man, were we glad to finally get out of there. It was very LOUD and too busy!
