Anyone else who can't wait for Elf on the Shelf to start this year????

So after looking into this more, it seems it started by an author who wrote a book? Marketing gold mine if you ask me. Because you know kids are going to mention it to other kids, and those kids will ask their parents where is their elf. So then everyone needs to buy an elf.

Brillant marketing scheme. I need to come up with such an idea.

In terms of traditions, its fairly new, which explains why I hadn't heard of it.

we are too, but i'm having a hard time finding an inexpensive elf cute elf. I've already told the family about his arrival and older DD is so excited she looks for him everyday even tho I told her he will be ariving Thanksgiving Day.

We have already started to tell my GS that Frisbee will be coming back on Thanksgiving night, so that first night, Frisbee will not be doing anything crazy, he will just be arriving with his book- after that night GAME ON, we are gonna get crazy with him this year!

I was talking to my daughter about how funny it would be if we could get one of those big blow up Snowmen that go on the lawn and inflate it in my GS's room!! Problem would be that they are so noisy and have to stay inflated- Frisbee might have to do that on a weekend GS is away- but we plan on taking in the lawn ornaments and puting them in his room.

Might try the "band-aid" idea with something other than bandaids, something maybe some gauze & medical tape, it just sounds too funny to not do.

I cant wait - my hubby isnt too sure about it but my dd6 has been talking about him... I guess I better get on it! I will get a letter sent to her today from Santa that Frankie is coming back :)

Thanks for bumping this, I want to print these because after several years and after a full day of work I sometimes have difficulty with coming up with ideas.

If anyone's elf has a myspace page, PM me and I will let you know my elf's name and our elves can be friends.

My elf has a myspace account and that's how he communicates with Santa. It's the first things my girls do in the morning.

So now my kids are older and know the truth (10,13,16). I told them to still expect them to come, they still want presents right? Does anyone have older kids and do the antics?

I'm 20 (my baby brother is 16), and my mom called me yesterday to tell me she'd "seen one of Santa's elves at bed bath and beyond and he asked how I was behaving". :rolleyes1 We also still do St. Nicholas Eve. :thumbsup2

OMG! our sebastian is already out and has been moving around the house now for a week. our 10yr dd loves it! my dh created an account on fb with his profile pic and she wanted to see pictures of the north pole and he added some and they are so cute! he gives her a hint on fb everyday of his location

My girls are 7, 9, & 16 and of course the 16 year old doesn't believe, but I swear she loves it as much as the little ones.

Our CC comes on December 2nd, when Santa arrives in our town on a fire truck (we have a little tree lighting ceremony on Main Street, and all sing carols and drink hot chocolate...it is all very Whoo-ville and so charming! :lovestruc ) - CC "appears" in our car while we're at the festivities. We can't wait for him to arrive! I have my 2010 idea calendar done based mostly on DIS posts, so if anyone wants a copy, just PM me.

I told DS that he might want to send a letter to Santa asking that CC be assigned to us again this year...he said "no...CC always comes, I know he'll be back!"

I should have noted that my calendar is in Word, so I can't attach via PM...so shoot me a PM with your e-mail address if you would like me to share a copy :)

I'm in again for our second year of doing this with our Jingles! :cool1: Thanks for all the great ideas and I wrote down a few to remember. I agree the best way to keep up with this is to write the ideas down on a calendar and if you don't have enough for every day, just space them out. I tried to keep the more "elaboroate" ideas for the weekend and it kept the element of surprise since Jingles wasn't nuts every day! :)

I especially love the idea of leaving money and then a note to have the child spend the money on a child less fortunate - I'm definitely adding this one! ;)

Keep 'em coming! :)

thinking about doing this with DSs!! thanks for the ideas....

I don't think I'll buy the book, I'd just find an elf at Walmart/Target/Dollar Store. Is there a letter with instructions somewhere I could print off to go with him??

thanks!

For those of you looking for an elf-We use the Annalee elves. Yes, some of them are kinda scary, but some of them have cute faces. Whats great about them is the wire in the arms and legs so you can bend them in all kinds of positions for mischief making. If you look places like HomeGoods, Tuesday Mornings, Marshalls, etc you can find them for about $8. Only warning-after 3 years I had to get a new one cause we had done sooo much bending, we broke a few wires. Luckily I found one with pretty much the same face but slightly different clothing which we attributed to his promotion to Junior Reindeer Keeper.

Can't wait for Epcots arrival! The dilemma, though, is that you cannot pose him (his body is floppy-he is the Elf on a Shelf). The kids would be disappointed if a different elf came, so maybe I'll have to "add" a friend that we can pose. I bought an Analee elf, but have not figured out how to incorporate him yet. The Analee elf can be posed-how can I use him, yet keep Epcot around, too? Any ideas?

Thanks!
