Anyone else who can't wait for Elf on the Shelf to start this year????

Yay - I got some of the *best* ideas for everyone on the Dis boards last year, can't wait to start up this year!

Thanks for sharing all your wonderful plans, makes it so much more fun for us!

our elf also decorated the tree with DD's undies. He took her Barbie on a date in Barbie's corvette, LOL! He read to the webkinz and was found playing a board game with the American Girl doll.

There is a book called "elf on a Shelf" basically about Santa sending an elf to spy on kids to see if they are deserving of presents but he/she is an elf and gets into a lot of meyham. You can buy the book with a little elf doll and when it comes to visit your house you can have lots of fun "adventures" (ie the things described in this thread.)

We never bought the book, just an elf I saw at a store, and Santa wrote a letter that came with the elf when he showed up on our mantle. There are people on etsy & ebay that make their own cuter versions with the story attached.

It's all about having fun surprising hte kids with elf antics, with a little hint of "you better be better than the elf or you're not getting presents". Let's face it, it's hard to be WORSE then the elf!

OH that is sooooooooooo cute. I have never heard of that. :)

I had never heard of this either, it sounds like sooo much fun I think my 5 yr old DD would love this:thumbsup2

Last year was our first year with "Elfis Parsley" -- the name was my husband's idea --

Originally, Elfis was supposed to watch the boys and report back to Santa. His antics inspired our youngest to write a letter to Santa, ratting him out. I just found it the other day. DS told Santa that maybe he should promote another elf because this one caused a lot of trouble...

Elfis fed the dog magic farting powder (the hubs' idea; kids found the elf dangling over the dog's bowl with a paper bag labelled, "MAGIC FARTING POWDER"), shot himself across the room with a suctioned bow and arrow that stuck to the refrigerator, and hung all of DS's underwear on the tree.

But, on the positive side, he left directions to a really cool holiday lights display and provided us with a thermos of hot chocolate, left the boys new Christmas PJs, and did some other nice things that I can't recall right now.

Time to start thinking of new things to do!:thumbsup2

We love our elf, Jingles! We started last year and both of the boys fell in love with him. They are anxiously awaiting his arrival this year (day after Thanksgiving).

Things he's done:

1.Painted husband's toenails in the middle of the night (red and green)
2.Hung the boys' underwear on the tree as decoration
3.Went fishing in the fishbowl (used a straw and string)
4.Took a snowball bath (cotton balls in the sink)
5.Left ingredients to make sugar cookies, but made flour angels overnight
6.Brought the making of a gingerbread house
7.Watched Elf all night long with a big bowl of popcorn and his friends (stuffed animals of the boys')
8.Made a breakfast of spaghetti noodles, maple syrup and a big bottle of Coke
9.Brought us McDonalds for breakfast (put a pillow in the carseat and parked the car funny)
10.Hid in the freezer to remember home
11.Put green food coloring in the toilet
12.Dumped out all the legos in the middle of the floor and built a few things (and left a small set)
13.Brought us The Happy Elf DVD (bought at Walmart for $5)
14.Went for a joyride on the lightup reindeer outside (found him in the morning)
15.Strung lights up in the dining room and was caught in a string of lights in the ceiling fan
16.Brought us items to make elf crafts

There are many more, but those are our favorites. :) Can't wait for this year!

Some of our Elf Escapdes from previous years

Peppermint Joy left them Elf hats that we found at Walmart.

She loves playing board games with other stuffed animals. One year she played checkers but replaces the pieces with Peppermint pattys instead.

She's left money and a note to please put the change into the Salvation Army bucket.

We've found Elf Kooky pens, Elf Duckies, Grow an Elf and even a t-shirt from Old Navy that said "Elf in training" - we use these for gifts that Pj's leaves the kids.

We found last year in the Target dollar section a pop up tent(meant for animals) and Pj used it as a campout with her stuffed friends.

She's been found kneeling at the manger and left a book on the nativity for the kids to read.

Since we live in Florida and never see snow....she "snowed" up all the windows in the house.

After doing this for a couple of years now - looking for some new ideas too!!

Thanks to this board, "Charlie" was introduced to our family 2 Christmas' ago..... last year, "Holly" accompanied him since she was an elf-in-training and needed to learn the ropes.... double the mischief!!! LOL! This year my girls have made no mention of Holly but ask almost daily when I think Santa might send Charlie back to us and they've written him letters pleading to let him visit us again :santa:

I'll be following this thread and others to get some new ideas since Charlie and Holly were quite busy the last 2 years and they're running out of ideas!!!! :rotfl:

I've got a question. Last year I was stumped about where to put the Elf on non-antics days... what do you all do? Or do you have him get into trouble every day??

Our elf is C.C. Mintenstollen. One thing that C.C. did last year that I can tell your elves NOT to do...he got into the band-aids and stuck them all over himself. Not good. They didn't come off of his plush little body so well...thank goodness I was able to order another C.C. from Amazon over the summer!

The things that did work out well (most, if not all, were ideas I read here on the DIS):

C.C. made himself a bathtub with DS's legos and took a bubble bath in mini-marshmallows, hung DS's underwear on the tree, brought some plastic pumpkins up to DS's room...got confused which holiday it was!, played games (like Sorry or cards) with DS's other stuffed animals, made us cookies (the break-apart-and-bake kind), C.C. went "potty" in the night time and didn't flush...green food coloring in the toilet.

One big help was that I made myself a calendar last year of things C.C. would do each night. Sooo nice to not have to think of something creative when I was exhausted at the end of the day. I will definitely take the time to update that for this year! Once I get it done I'd be happy to share it, just shoot me a PM with your e-mail address if anyone wants a copy.

I can't wait until after Thanksgiving, I know we will be sorry if we start too early but I'm so anxious for Frisbee to come back, we had such a blast with him. Going to stop at the dollar store and see if I can find some new "props" for this year, I like the band-aid idea! one more for my list!!

I am thinking this would be a cute idea. My son has asked for one, but I had no idea what all you had to do with it. I thought it was a stuffed Elf you put on a shelf. All of my children know about Santa now, as of this year :sad1:, so I could really have some fun with this pretending I have no idea where it came from too, or is this crazy? We need a little fun at Christmas!!:santa::rotfl2:

I'm not sure what to do this year..... I do this for my niece and nephew who come to my house when my sister is at work. My niece is in school this year and my nephew is not. So, if Jingles comes alive at night, my nephew will get to see him do fun things 5 days a week and my niece will 2. My niece is the most excited about him and (this is awful to say) my nephew is the more .... hmm... ok naughty.. one.

So I have to figure out how to explain that Jingles only comes to life Fridays and Saturdays and not days when my niece isn't here.... I know she'll be sad to hear my nephew talking about what Jingles did and she couldn't see it:(

last Christmas and I wanted to add some "Christmas Magic" or "Elfen Dust" to our holidays again. He loved IT!! He would take photos with the phone and send them to his brothers who are away at college. A mischievous elf can make the holidy fun for all ages. I love this tradition.!!

... I like the band-aid idea! one more for my list!!

No, no, no...DON'T do the band-aid thing, well, unless he/she sticks them somewhere else besides their plush little body...somewhere that you KNOW they will come off of. Maybe I wasn't that clear, but I had to buy a new elf because I just couldn't get the sticky band-aid parts off of his little body. However, it *was* funny...so maybe I'll have him stick some on the mirror or something this year...or maybe on DS!!! :rolleyes1

Oh, just remembered another funny one - C.C. stowed away in my work bag last year and took a photocopy of his butt. DS thought that was hilarious!

He also put on DS's sneakers and was on our treadmill for a workout.

I am loving these...please keep them coming. Santa brought us an Elf last year on Christmas morning so this year will be the first year that we can use it. These ideas are just what a newbie needs!
