Anyone else who can't wait for Elf on the Shelf to start this year????

my kids are so excited, this will be tallulah and randolph's 3rd year with us. it is the only thing on my seven year olds christmas list. Dear santa, please send the elves back, love ryan. they love the mischief that the elves make, more exciting than Christmas morning , i think.
love reading all the ideas, after two years i need some new inspiration, although i am sure they will be hanging underwear on the tree, because my kids still talk about that:rotfl:

December 1st I when Gumdrop will be joining us. He'll arrive in a wrapped package outside the front door as a delivery from the North Pole. He will probably also bring the Polly Pocket Advent Calendar with him as her official countdown to Christmas.

I have a friend that did this years ago for her DD age 5 at the time. It totally freaked the poor little girl out, that some elf was running around her house at night, she wouldn't sleep by herself for a very long time.

I never did this with my kids, I didn't know about it, but I don't think my kids would have liked it either. Come to think of it, I don't think I would have liked it. Sounds a little creepy to me.

I think if you are the type of parents who makes their kids paranoid of everything in the world then yes, they might freak out. More often than not a childs fear is driven from their parents behaviors/fears or something they've seen or happen that is tragic (be it on TV or whatever).

Otherwise, I guess I can only be thankful my children believe in the "magic" of Christmas and would go with the flow and think it's hilarious!

I haven't yet decided what day our Elf will come. His name is P. Nut Brittle and I'm coming up with lots of ideas from this thread for this year!!

I don't think being a parent that makes their kids paranoid has anything to do with it, why is it always the parent? Her brother loved it, but she just got freaked out by something in her house at night. She loved Santa and she believed in him, she didn't like an elf in her house watching her.

My kids are way past this, and I had never heard of it before. They were never afraid of Santa or anything really, but I don't know what they would have thought about an elf in their house watching them.

Anyway, if your(and I mean anyones) kids love it, I think it is a cute idea. I just think that some may not like it.

I understand what you mean. If any of my kids were freaked out by it then I wouldn't keep doing it as it wouldn't be fun.:sad1:

When I reference "the parent" being the issue my point is that MOST fear kids have is that of which the parent puts on them. "Don't run ahead at the mall because a bad guy will steal you and you'll never see mommy again" or "oh honey don't touch that, you'll get worms"...just things a parent would say that the kids imagination runs wild and turns into real fears. I have a friend who is like this and that poor kid is afraid of EVERYTHING because she freaks out about everything.

Most kids wouldn't naturally think elves are creepy since they are associated with Santa (unless they fear him too)...now clowns on the other hand? CREEPY!!!:rotfl:

I guess my kids probably wouldn't have thought the elves creepy either, especially if they though they could get for gifts out of it. lol

My kids were never afraid of the characters at WDW or really anything else I can think of. I wonder why I didn't hear of this when my kids were little. I would have tried it. I love anything to do with Christmas.

I was an easily frightened kid...for a couple of years my parents had to leave the gifts from Santa outside on the patio...then I think eventually they just kind of led me to make the conclusion of the truth, because the idea of a strange man coming into my house freaked me out too much. So I utterly and completely understand that this is not for every child...but it is WAY fun for those families whose kids are not freaked out by it.

Bump

We are starting Thanksgiving night, anyone else?

Charlie will arrive on December 1st......

The first year he came, it was the day after Thanksgiving..... by Christmas, he was getting low on ideas :rotfl:

Last year he came December 1st.... that's when he's due again this year! :santa:

I have gone everywhere looking for an elf, you would think with so much christmas stuff displayed I could find an elf I really do not want to order one on line and DD wakes up every morning looking for him:sad2: any ideas guys?

I just bought mine last week at Borders books. It was in the kids area with the Christmas books. I plan on starting the day after Thanksgiving.

I had a heck of a time finding an elf too!! Never did actually, so I decided to use a "christmas sock monkey".....:rotfl::rotfl:

I think I'll have to retype my letter to the kids and use the sock monkey in the wording somewhere. :rolleyes1

hmm there's not a Borders by me maybe I can check Barnes and Nobles Christmas sock monkey:laughing: atleast you found something lol! i'll keep looking.

My mom found this guy at Michael's for $16.99 and used a 40% coupon on him.

So now my kids are older and know the truth (10,13,16). I told them to still expect them to come, they still want presents right? Does anyone have older kids and do the antics?

My oldest is 13 and then I have a 9 and 5 year old. Last night in the car, I say to my 13 year old, do you want to help me with Jingles tricks this year? In a serious voice, he says "he's really fake? You just made me so sad by not pretending he was real". I know he knows and has known for years about Santa and elves but he really didn't want to let the belief in the magic of Jingle go too! The saying in our house has always been "if you don't believe, you don't receive".

Because of my two younger ones, Jingle will be returning. Although, I am running out of different ideas!
