Anyone else surprised by how few DVC owners are on this board?

Still under 700 on the running count poll? Seems kind of small to me out of 100,000.

Remember that the count only includes those people on the boards that chose to participate in that thead. Chances are there are also lurkers and those that simply chose not to post.

No, I know some other owners who have RUN from this board.

If you post that you didn't like a resort prepare to be flamed and abused... some folks don't like that.

Some posters are tired of the tons of threads on things that most don't care about and just left (point transfers??)

Overall, the DVC boards require you to have a tough skin and I know there are DVC owners on the DIS boards who never post here just to avoid the abuse.

I'm not a lurker but that thead title never interested me so never opened it. Perhaps there are others..

Even if every lurker and board visitor logged onto that thread, it would still be a comparatively small number.

You have to remember...we're the exception, not the norm. Most DVC owners use their ownership every year and happily rely on MS to help them with any questions. They probably don't care about rumors, or point transfers, or refillable mugs or other things that we find entertaining to discuss.

In the scheme of things, I think it's impressive that this board can attract about 1% of the total DVC ownership. That's a lot considering the total size of ownership out there. :)

Your answer is kind of one reason I opened this thread-just to see if it the number may be larger (obviously it cant be smaller) and also get some input on the numbers. Thanks all.

However, my friend who is also an owner continually pumps me for all the info from here, so she doesn't have to join!

Thanks Granny, those are good points also. I guess 1% and climbing is quite a bit actually.

Until this year, I never heard of the Disboards; I think I first saw it either in an Allears e-mail, or in an UG! :sad2: And we've owned since early '98!! There may be many others in the same "unenlightened" position! :rotfl:
But...................I'm sooooo glad I found it!!!! :grouphug:

I was actually surprised there were as many as there were. I would have guessed much lower.

You are so right, which is why I get a laugh sometimes from the threads that are sure that the DIS is representative of the entire DVC community. Especially when it comes to certain resorts or policy.

This community; while very vocal and probably some of the most educated members about DVC and in general, is just a small minnow in the big sea of DVC.

That is why new members need to take everything shared here with a grain of salt and not like it is the gospel truth of DVC.

My biggest realization of what a small group the Dis'ers DVC constitute was when we were on the '05 Member's Cruise. I think it was krdisneybound who made up tees for us to buy and wear. We received lots of questions about who we were, and maybe some new people came on line, but the large majority of DVCers had no idea!

I do have one question that I have wondered about for quite awhile re. the number of DVC families.... If you own at 2 resorts like myself at OKW as well as VB, then am I considered just one of those 100,000 families or do I count as 2 ? If I count as 2 then what is the real number of active DVC members. Just a question, wondered if anyone knows? :wave2:

Very well said, Sammy! (And thus worth repeating)

I don't know for sure, but my guess is the # of members is based on the # of membership numbers.

In English: I suspect all MASTR contracts are considered an owner, so if you have 2 Master Contracts you would be counted twice. If you have one Master Contract with 34.2 Sub-contracts, I expect you would be counted once.

Purely speculation on my part.

no not really

how many members does the Disboards have now? I don't know

DVC has over 100,000 members and not all are on these boards. I'll be happy to see 1000 post on my thread. :thumbsup2

So, as I think you are right about it being based on membership numbers, I don't know if it is a regular practice, but when I bought my resale on VB, I was given the original membership number for the contract and thus I have 2 membership numbers, so I think I do count as 2 families in that 100,000 total number. So I guess in the count of members who are active on this board, I would count as 2 members-just smoke and mirrors, but the numbers could be skewed a little bit. :teleport:

In the news release about Jim Lewis's promotion, "Under Jim's leadership, Disney Vacation Club achieved significant growth, bringing total membership to nearly 300,000 individuals in 100 countries,"

So is the DVC membership 300,000 or 100,000? :confused3
