We leave next Thursday for a long weekend visit and right now I'm the only one who knows!
I'm calling it my wife's birthday surprise, but we'll be bringing DS5 & DD1.5. We will be staying at the Swan for the first time.
I usually plan a surprise trip somewhere about once a year. My wife knows we are going somewhere, but doesn't know where. I can tell she is thinking we are going to Myrtle Beach this time - boy will she be surprised. I've just told her to make sure we pack swim suits for everyone.
To prolong the surprise I'm going to alter the course that I drive there. We usually go down I-75, then take the Florida turnpike. This time I'm going to start the trip by heading over to I-95 (towards Myrtle Beach). That should throw her off pretty good. Then I'll head south and take I-4 to Orlando -either way is really about the same distance for us.
I thought I post an update since I just returned today (Monday) from our surprise trip. As our departure for our trip neared I started suspecting that my wife was on to me and was just playing along. I started reading the Unofficial Guide while doing cardio at the Y instead of at home so my wife would not be suspicious. I also deleted my internet history records of me studing the dining menus at allearsnet.
As it turns out, I had her completely fooled. She swore we were going to Myrtle Beach - almost as if it were a foregone conclusion. On the ride down she was even planning out which outlet stores we would go to and when. I just sat there driving in the dark and grinning. When my wife woke up from her nap and we were in South Georgia she forced me to spill the beans. She was shocked and surprised!

After she was finished being distressed that she didn't pack the right things, she was very happy. DS-5 was in the back seat and wanted to know what was going on & I shared the surprise with him. His joy was more pure - "That's exactly where I hoped we were going, I love you Daddy!".
A quick summary of the trip: It was awesome. It was our first time at the Swan, but we liked it so much, it probably will not be our last. I booked standard view, but our view was so nice that I wonder if we didn't get a upgrade without asking. To top of the surprise, we shared a romantic and delicious meal at Palio on our arrival day. We spent time at Epcot & MGM. As a matter of fact, the only negative to the whole trip was getting caught in a torrential downpour with about 5000 other people right as Fantasmic was supposed to start on Saturday.

We could see clear skys all around us, but the big black cloud was right over the stadium. We waited and waited until it cleared up, but they never showed the full Fantasmic - they just shot off the fireworks and played a pre-recorded apology. The silver lining (literally - ha) was that we had time to walk to Epcot and we got there with like 10 minutes to spare to enjoy Illuminations!
