Anyone else planning a surprise trip?

We've been planning a surprise for the grandkids since February. We're taking them (DGD 11, DGS 7, DGD 4) and their parents. Their parents know about it and they're doing a good job keeping the secret.

We're going for my 50th birthday, so the morning they leave, they'll get an invitation from Mickey Mouse that says, "You're invited to a very special birthday party. See ya real soon!"

mn susan that sounds excellent! What a nice idea for your bday!! I hope all goes well with your planning and your trip!! When are you going? 14 days to go for me!!

I am down to 11 days and the pressure is mounting! DH keeps saying something about a flat screen TV? Oh well I hope he likes a weekend at WDW with MNSSHP and F&W jsut as much! I think I am staring to get a cold, hopefuly it is just a change of season sniffle. Let me know how everyone else is doing ith there plans! :sunny:

We leave next Thursday for a long weekend visit and right now I'm the only one who knows!

I'm calling it my wife's birthday surprise, but we'll be bringing DS5 & DD1.5. We will be staying at the Swan for the first time.

I usually plan a surprise trip somewhere about once a year. My wife knows we are going somewhere, but doesn't know where. I can tell she is thinking we are going to Myrtle Beach this time - boy will she be surprised. I've just told her to make sure we pack swim suits for everyone.

To prolong the surprise I'm going to alter the course that I drive there. We usually go down I-75, then take the Florida turnpike. This time I'm going to start the trip by heading over to I-95 (towards Myrtle Beach). That should throw her off pretty good. Then I'll head south and take I-4 to Orlando -either way is really about the same distance for us.

That is a great plan!! They will all be so happy when you get to the world!! Have a wonderful trip!! :goodvibes

I am planning a 'girls only' trip for me and my dd :earsgirl: who will be 8 this month...
We are going in January for 4 days...got such cheap plane tickets and I have an AP so got Pop for $59 a night... :Pinkbounc I am just busting to tell her. She is going to flip the morning we go...that is when I will tell her why she isn't going to school. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I'm taking my Dad to DLP for his 50th in November, so we'll be there for the Christams celebrations.

He really has no idea. He'll be so surprised when he finds out where he's going :earsboy:

MEEEEEE!! A surprise girls-only trip with my sister - I'm getting married in a couple of months, and she's so disappointed we're honeymooning at WDW and she can't go! So I'm surprising her at Christmas with a trip for May - I wish I could wait until the day before we go, but she's 22 and bound to make other plans if I don't get to her first!

:flower: This thread makes me happy! :flower:

How's everyone doing holding in their surprises? Mine's easy at the moment, since the whole family (including my sister and nephew) is going next month (the surprise trip is just me and my girls) so I get to talk about the planning. ;) Stashing away the info is easy. Lizzybee, I'll be packing in the basement too!

My biggest fear is the kids will walk in on me posting on the Disboards and see my Dec. countdown! :earseek:

Only 5 more days to go till we leave- and it's still a surprise from the kids!
I have finally told the older two that we "may" go visit some relatives during their fall break. But I haven't said it will only be me and the kids (without DH) because that might give it away (since our trip in June was also just me and the kids while he stayed home/worked/etc.). I had to say SOMETHING because I had to let them know why I was telling their coaches they'd miss next Saturday's soccer games! I told the coach we'd be out of town during fall break- then told the kids we are probably going to go visit relatives that live out of state. I haven't said we ARE definitely going to visit relatives- because I don't want to outright lie to them... just wanna explain only as much as I have to, to keep it a secret/surprise. LOL

They are kinda ho-hum about visiting relatives but they are totally believing it. LOL

Hey after a two or three visits to WDW, Mickey and Minnie are like "relatives that live out of state". :teeth:

Hi All! I only have 21/2 days untill I can tell DH about his surprise 30th bday trip!! I am fighting a cold so I hope that I don't get sick.I am starting to get anxious, I hope that he is excited. I still have to call his work for the time off! I had it all set with his new job but he quit last thursday and is now back at his old job! I could not get away from him to call his boss! I will have to do it tomorrow! I hope that it is ok or I think that I will loose it! Can't wait to go to MNSSHP and F&W! 3 days to go!!!! :hourglass :bounce:

We too have a suprise trip for our 6 year old DD. We did this last year as well. Instead of school, we went to the airport. She was blown away!

Our next one is Nov. 6th. and I can't wait!

We're going Nov 12-19. The surprise is still intact. I ordered (and received) a Cinderella costume for DGD3. Her brother and sister think its for Halloween, which it is, but have no idea she'll also wear it to Cinderella's Royal Table for my birthday dinner a few weeks later!

Another family we know is going at the same time and the kids know each other pretty well. Those kids have been sworn to secrecy, and probably won't see my grandkids before the trip. The first night we're all there, they're eating at Whispering Canyon Cafe and then going to MK for Wishes. We're eating at the Crystal Palace a little later the same evening. One of the kids wants to surprise our grandkids by just coming up to them on the street while we're waiting for the fireworks and yelling, "SURPRISE!" I think its really cool that they want to be part of it, too.

Can't wait!

MNSusan your plans get better all the time! I have 2days to go! DH has switched his job 3 times in the past 3 weeks! Right now he is negotiating with his previous employer. I just call his possible new/old boss and told him I don't know how there plans will work out but that DH won't be at work thur/fri/or monday. I left a message on his call phone so I hope it will work out! I have tried so hard to keep the surprise so I don't want to blow it now!! I hope this works out! Anxiety setting in!!! :rotfl: Wish me luck!!

Less than two weeks to go, and DD still has NO idea! She actually thinks that we can't afford to buy her presents this year because Daddy needs new socks, LOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!! I'm SO mean!

Anyway, the day before her birthday next week, we're waking her up at 4:00 and taking her to the airport. Once she's awake and lucid enough to be happy, we'll tell her we're going to my parents' house (which we will). Spend the night at my parents' house, then the next day on her birthday the first present she opens will tell her that in TWO DAYS we're going to WDW!!! Then she'll open her princess dresses, autograph book, etc etc etc!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She won't have any idea about CRT or the Perfectly Princess Tea until they actually happen, heeheehee!!!

We've never taken her on vacation before (always leave her with relatives :guilty: ), and we've never really "done" her birthday before (her first birthday we didn't even give her presents, just a chocolate cupcake...). This is a child who literally gets excited about her chewable vitamin in the morning, lol. Her head will explode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, she said she wanted a princess birthday, lol!!! princess:

I'm planning a surprise disney trip for my little sister this january. She has no idea and we aren't planning on telling her until the morning we leave. We have a limo picking us up from our house and driving us to the airport, (even though its just 10 minutes away!) to add a little magic :wizard: to the trip. I hope we can pull it off!

I thought I post an update since I just returned today (Monday) from our surprise trip. As our departure for our trip neared I started suspecting that my wife was on to me and was just playing along. I started reading the Unofficial Guide while doing cardio at the Y instead of at home so my wife would not be suspicious. I also deleted my internet history records of me studing the dining menus at allearsnet.

As it turns out, I had her completely fooled. She swore we were going to Myrtle Beach - almost as if it were a foregone conclusion. On the ride down she was even planning out which outlet stores we would go to and when. I just sat there driving in the dark and grinning. When my wife woke up from her nap and we were in South Georgia she forced me to spill the beans. She was shocked and surprised! :goodvibes After she was finished being distressed that she didn't pack the right things, she was very happy. DS-5 was in the back seat and wanted to know what was going on & I shared the surprise with him. His joy was more pure - "That's exactly where I hoped we were going, I love you Daddy!". :love2:

A quick summary of the trip: It was awesome. It was our first time at the Swan, but we liked it so much, it probably will not be our last. I booked standard view, but our view was so nice that I wonder if we didn't get a upgrade without asking. To top of the surprise, we shared a romantic and delicious meal at Palio on our arrival day. We spent time at Epcot & MGM. As a matter of fact, the only negative to the whole trip was getting caught in a torrential downpour with about 5000 other people right as Fantasmic was supposed to start on Saturday. :umbrella: We could see clear skys all around us, but the big black cloud was right over the stadium. We waited and waited until it cleared up, but they never showed the full Fantasmic - they just shot off the fireworks and played a pre-recorded apology. The silver lining (literally - ha) was that we had time to walk to Epcot and we got there with like 10 minutes to spare to enjoy Illuminations! :wizard:
