Anyone else planning a surprise trip?

I told the kids about some of the surprise trips people on this board have taken in the past, and asked them if they ever wanted to be surprised. They said yes. They have no idea they are going in October. I found out what things are important to them by telling them that someone on the DIS boards has kids about their age and has some questions about restaurants and parks.

I am planning a secret trip too for my niece's 8th Birthday. We are staying at the Beach Club for one night then moving over to the Wilderness Lodge for 3 more nights. I think she will be more excited that we are flying down this time. She has been asking for a few months now when can she go on an airplane. My problem is I haven't decided when and how to tell her. I can't wait to be back at WDW :Pinkbounc

I suprised DH on our last trip. It was very hard to keep it from him but I found relief in coming to the DIS. So spill all your plans to us as if you were telling DH. Hang in there trust me it is all worth it in the end. I wish this could have been a suprise trip this time but w/ DH's job he had to ask for the time off.

I think the best suprise I ever gave him though was the "Kings" experience at the Richard Petty Driving School. I can still see the look on his face when we drove over there and I told him he was going to be driving a NASCAR...PRICELESS. he looked like a kid walking into WDW for the first time! :earseek: :earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

DH and I are planning a surprise trip for DD & DS in January. We've had the plane tickets since April, and it has been so difficult not saying anything. We usually make such a big deal about our trips, and we've already almost spilled the beans several times. We leave for 10 days in Orlando the morning after DD's 7th birthday. It's the kids' first plane trip, too. We're still trying to decide how to let her know what's going on. We're thinking of taking her to Dallas the night before our flight leaves from there...going to Rainforest Cafe and Build a Bear for her birthday and then having some kind of scavenger hunt back at the hotel. I can't wait to see her reaction! :Pinkbounc

Some time around 11:00 pm tonight my sister will find out that we're going to go to Disneyland when I head for the car rental bus at LAX instead of our "connecting flight". She thinks we just have a layover in LAX before heading to Orlando for WDW (i.e. "I messed up"). We do have a layover..of a couple of days, and we're still going to WDW. Just not today. The fact that I've managed to keep this from her is a minor miracle..

Sort of a surprise here! DDs (6 and almost 4) know we are going to WDW next month. But they DO NOT know that one set of grandparents and their cousins are going to meet us there. My MIL and I have been planning this since probably April or May. DDs are going to be SOOOOOO excited when we go to dinner, and there is everyone else!

Me too.
We leave in 12 days! My oldest DD 11 knows (She heard us talking) but the other 3 DDs don't (9, 5, 2). I feel like no one is excited, but me.

I'll talk to my DH about it and he's like whatever. My oldest DD isn't really into it either. On Monday I pulled her aside around 3pm and said in to weeks we'll be sitting by the pool, she rolled her eyes at me! She thinks I get into to this too much, HELLO it's Disney! So last night when she's going to bed, I say we will just be getting back from AK in two weeks - Blank stare. What is up with this kid! She wants to go, but is just not getting excited.

The other DD's have been able to help plan, by talking about our trip "next year". My dd 9 even gave me a list of whtat she wants to do "next year".

While there we will celebrate DD2 third b-day (it's the next week, but she won't know), and going to the castle for breakfast! My dd 9 is going to flip- she loves the princesses.

So glad school started, now I can start to pack. :cheer2:

POR 9/5-9/12 :moped:

surprise trip here too! :) dd5 and dd6 have no idea we are going in 38 days. We'll do a treasure hunt the morning we leave that will end up with them finding the packed suitcases waiting for the airport limo.

This is so awesome! I feel like I can hold out now and keep the secret. all of the plans posted sound so great! I wish I could see the look on the kids faces! Just came back from the store with more party stuff for my Dh's party, I better get busy and hide it all! Keep the plans comming and keep the mouths shut! :rotfl:

I just joined this club!! I booked a surprise trip to DL for our anniversary in October last night. It's going to be a looooooonnnnnngggggggg 2 months.

DH and I, plus my mom and dad, are surprising DD (7) and DS (2) with their first trip to Disney the first week of October.

DD has *no* idea. She saw the trip planning DVD that came in the mail last week and asked what it was... I told her it was an advertisement trying to get us interested in going to Disney, and she kept talking about how much fun that would be and she wished we could go :earboy2:

I'm not even going to tell her we're going on a trip until the day we're scheduled to get there. I'll pick her up from school with the van loaded to go on Friday afternoon, and we'll go stay with the grandparents overnight (4 hours southward on our journey!) They won't think that's odd at all, because we often spend weekends with the grandparents. Once the kids are in bed, we'll load the van with my parents' stuff for the trip, too, so all we have to do the next morning is get up early, load our last minute stuff, and GO! Then I haven't decided yet -- maybe when we wake them up early, we'll tell them to get dressed quickly and into the van because WE'RE GOING TO DISNEY!!! Or maybe I'll just tell them we're going to Florida for a surprise week of vacation, and leave the REAL surprise for when we get there, when we pull into the resort :)

Include me as well.

I booked a surprise trip for my entire family. Unfortunately, my DSIL was taking to my DW and said she wanted to come visit the time I planned the trip, so I ended up spilling the beans to my DW. But it worked out, b/c now she is excited as well and helping me plan the surprise for our DD4 and DS1 (mainly, just for DD, b/c I don't think DS will grasp the surprise to much).

We already have a trip planned next March 06, so whenever DW and I talk about it, DD thinks we are just talking about that trip.

ADD MEEEEEEEEEEEEE TOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I told my 12 yr old son that we might not be able to go this year because I bought a house, (well you what what he said and what i could do with the house) ha ha ha

So anyway I have made ressies for OCT 11 thru the 18 (fall break) and we will be doing a halloween night, last year we were at disney while the halloween party was going on and he wanted to go so bad and go on the rides, because we knew the lines would not be to bad.

So we have a 3:00 flight out of Birmingham Al....i will check him out of school and from there we will head to the airport, so i think i will tell him where we are going as i am checking him out of school, but yes its killing me to keep this secret, but i cant wait to see his face light up when he finds out

Thanks
Brooke :flower:

We are surprising our DS9 and 7. The 9 yo kept asking when we were going on summer vacation. We were going to just get them up and put them in the car and take off and when they woke up have them turn on the DVD player and in there would be the planning video. Now we are flying and the youngest says no way when we question him about flying someday. We will probably tell him the day before so that we won't have a little munskin clinging to our legs as we get on the plane. We are going in September.

We are surprising our daughters Dec. 8-11 ... they know KNOTHING. We have our air tickets, tickets to MVMCP and everything. We decieded not to tell them anything ... just get up that morning as usual, make breakfast as usual and then say "Hay, anyone want to go down to Disney?" What is really funny is that we are always saying that ... we are all such big fans that we are always just pulling each others legs, but not this time ... the car will be packed and everything (I can and can't wait ... this is sooooooooo GREAT.)

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We leave in 7 days, and I am about ready to BURST! We are surprising our sons 10 & 11. It is their first trip. We are staying conceirge WL for 6 days. I cannot wait. They have been planning their own trip for next summer. I've been telling them next summer, so I can keep asking their opinions. I have everything in boxes and bags waiting to be packed in a suitcase. WHOO-HOO!!!

Great topic! It's kool reading all the other sneaky people trying to be James (or Jamie for all the women here) Bond. Im in the same boat. I told my 9yo daughter that I couldn't afford to go this year and that maybe we would be able to go next year! Her birthday is in september and I decided I would have a party for her at Disneyland so I was planning to bring an envelope with a bunch of pictures from our last trip and a note that says Happy Birthday, you are going to WDW!!
I too am dying to tell her cause i know she's DYING to go also! Our trip is not until Dec but there's no way I could possibly hold this secret till then! No way!!!

Well, this isn't as grand of a surprise as most of you are planning, but I've kept the secret for 3 months now and I'm about to burst!

We're going the end of Sept/early Oct, and we'll be there on dd's 8th birthday. I got CRT for lunch on her Bday, and I plan to order a nice birthday cake for after our meal. I'd always planned on telling her 2 or 3 weeks before the trip, because she's the type who really needs to plan ahead, watch videos of certain rides before she's comfortable going on them, etc. We're sending her an invitation "from Cinderella" to celebrate her birthday over lunch at the castle, with the princesses. Well, I just couldn't take it any longer, I put the invitation in the mail today. I have no idea what her reaction will be... she knows the characters aren't real, and she may immediately realize we've planned a trip, or she may think it's a real invite, and beg us to go. :goodvibes:

I've also been talking way too much about it to our 2yo. At first, she was pretty oblivious about the whole thing, but it seems to have clicked over the last couple of days. She's told the cashier at the supermarket that she's going to ride a train and meet Tigger. Last night she said "I want to see Cinderella", and luckily, dd7-almost-8 assumed she meant the movie and just put the DVD in. :rotfl: I hope that invitation comes soon, before little sis blows the surprise!!
