Anyone else not thrilled about Captain EO returning?

As for Michael Jackson, I don't believe he was ever convicted of anything untowards. Tabloids love blowing things out of proportions.

Yes, but at minimum, there are a few things we can say for sure:
- that he had some bad judgement in his relationships with minors
- that his actions (like sleepovers with pre teens) were not appropriate and not in the best interest of the children he had the relationships with
- that he put himself in positions that allowed him to be accused

Was he acquitted - yes, does this mean he is innocent - no. It means that there wasnt enough evidence to say that beyond a reasonable doubt he was convictable. In my mind regardless of the jury verdict, his actions make him a bad match with Disney parks.

Well, I am so conflicted on this one. I was the 80's kid with MJ posters plastered on my wall. So, I just have to see it. I have looked on youtube, and I think my boys will enjoy the storyline. I still so enjoy MJ's music. It just takes me back, ya know? I will just try my best to remember the MJ I knew as a kid.

MJ was never convicted, in fact the FBI just released all of the papers they had on him and they never found one shred of evidence that he'd done anything wrong. The people that accused him were con artists, plain and simple. He wanted to go to court to fight the second allegations but his legal team told him not to, that it would damage his reputation further, so he settled out of court. He had the emotional maturity of a young person, at most 13. So of course he felt more comfortable around young people. He was a gentle, innocent soul and it makes me so angry when people talk about him like he was a monster. He was tortured by his father and endured so much pain in life. Read the Michael Jackson Conspiracy by Aphrodite Jones and you'll see what I mean.

I admit to being a fan of Michael Jackson - but I do understand the point about perception and linking that to wdw. But..... from a purely nostalgic point of view I love the idea of returning to the rides/shows I enjoyed as a child - now if they could just return 'my' skyway in fantasyland then I will be very happy!!!:goodvibes

IMO, if Disney did bring back Cpt. EO, I think they would need to update the attraction to make if more attractive to the kids today who are not familiar with the original attraction.:cool1::banana:

Yup and the glove didn't fit OJ, Wesley Snipes did not commit tax fraud, and Amy Winehouse not guilty of both assaulting a photographer and drug possession charges. I can go on..

Funnily enough evidence means something. Doesn't the fact that there wasn't any bother you at all? Or the fact that we have taped evidence that the people that accused MJ were out for cash? Or that they targeted other celebrities before him? Seriously, look into the case before you make a judgment.

Yup and all the people stated above also had "proof" and "alibis".
There is just as much circumstancial evidence proving his guilt. But hey, let's say you are right and he wasn't in fact guilty of pedophilia. What's the excuse for him to being a drug abuser which in fact eventually killed him?

That is another reason why WDW should not be "honoring" him.

I'm really and truly disappointed in Disney's decision on this. "Not guilty" does not equal "innocent," (just as OJ!) and the elevation to sainthood since Mr. Jackson's death is more than a little distasteful. Normal grown men don't have sleepovers with little boys. In this case, the only good thing about Michael Jackson is there is now one less pedophile for parents to worry about.

I still like HISTA.

Drug abuse was tied to the fact that he was abused horribly by his father and the emotional torment he was put through by the media. He couldn't sleep so he abused prescription sleep meds and sedatives. Not saying it was right, but you asked for a reason. I'm leaving this thread before I say something nasty. The fact that people still call him a pedophile before knowing all the facts makes me shake with rage.

I'm with Robo! I'll miss seeing that when I'm there this September.

I know I saw Captain EO once when I was little, but I don't remember it at all.

Other than stupidly holding his child over the balcony, which public behavior are you referring too?

Um, how about sleeping with little boys? Granted, he did it with their parents OK, since they wanted the money more than to protect their kids. But just because the adults were OK with it, does not make it right. He was a pedophile, and should be treated as such. Replaying Captain EO is ignoring the main thing MJ was. Not an artist...not a singer...not an entertainer. First and foremost he was a child molester....even though he was allowed to pay off the families or the children he molested. I am always flabbergasted when I hear people say "But he was such a great artist...the best ever!". Too bad that mindset got many more kids molested. If he was stopped when it first came out what he was doing, more kids would not have to have gone through that. One of his little child star victims (one of those 2 Corey's...I forget which one) came out and told about his molestation, but when he was blackballed by the Hollywood elite and the big shots in the music industry because of it, he withdrew his accusations. I don't need to see that movie. I watched MJ grow up into the monster he became. It sickens me that he would be honored at Disney World. :sad1:

Heresay is Feldman introduced MJ to Haim, and MJ suposely molested Haim. Was a big wedge put between the Coreys, because Feldman took MJ's side.

The MOTHER of the molested child was out for cash. The CHILD was molested. Just because the mother was a greedy idiot does not mean the child was not molested. Even the jurors said they knew the molestation happened, but they didn't like the mother, and didn't want her getting the cash. And, that was just one instance that made it to court. There were several out of court settlements.

Speaking of poor Corey Haim......

Regular people have their lives and careers ruined over bad judgement like MJ showed. A school teacher that has sleepovers with pre-teens isn't going to be teaching any more, let alone being honored with a feature film at WDW.

I think we can all agree - guilty of molestation or not - that his behavior was detrimental to the children he "befriended" and generally unacceptable in our society. This alone should stop WDW from bringing back EO.

OMG.... are you saying that in this country a person is NOT presumed innocent until proven guilty.

I'm at a loss for words.

I never was a great MJ fan, but am looking forward to seeing Captain EO again.

No. I am saying that not guilty and innocent are not the same thing. If you think otherwise, I am at a loss for words.
