Anyone else not thrilled about Captain EO returning?

I didn't know Captain EO was MJ, I definitely will not be seeing that show. He was never convicted of anything but IMO his public behavior was one that was NOT of a good role model for young people.

Other than stupidly holding his child over the balcony, which public behavior are you referring too?

Having seen both HISTA and CE, I respectfully disagree! They need a whole new show for that space.

I agree - they need a whole new show. Disney has put out several successful and popular movies that have no attractions. Why are they still hanging on to this? It's time to move on.

Saw Captain EO several times at DL. I was a fan back in the 80s, so I really enjoyed it. (I still listen to the Thriller album) My 19yo son and 10yo & 14yo grandsons, have never seen Captain EO, so they're looking forward to it. The 10yo watched MJ's videos all day with me on New Years. Surprised me...he even knew some of the other actors in the videos. :)

My son loves the Thriller video...he's always been into horror flicks so I guess it's understandable. He's forever trying to get me to watch those dumb Zombie movies with him. :rotfl:

I think all my guys will enjoy Captain EO, even if it is outdated. As for me...whatever makes them happy just makes our vacation better. ;)

I've seen both HISTA and EO and quite honestly, I don't think either one of them was just absolutely horrible, but if I never see either one of them again I won't miss them. Honestly, I could care less that EO is back and just wish they'd come up with something new and innovative to go there. I expect cutting edge from Disney, especially at EPCOT, and as good as the 4-D Philharmagic is at MK, they can surely come up with something better than HISTA or EO to put in EPCOT.

Eh, while Caption EO might be a fun, nostalgic thing, I really wish they would come up with something new for the pavilion. HISTA was getting old 10 years ago. Whatever anyone thinks of MJ as a person, there is no denying he was a very influential artist. Since his death, his record sales have soared and I think this is more of a business decision (cashing in on nostalgia) than honoring MJ as a person.

We just caught Captain EO at Disneyland last month...I was thrilled to see it again and my kids loved it.. yes its very dated but still fun to watch.

I did enjoy HISTA but we haven't been to see it in a few years because I've seen it so many times.

Glad there will be something different to see this trip!

I hope it's gone when we go TG I don't want to have to sit through it again.
As for the comments of "he was never convicted", neither was OJ but we all know the deal with that.

I am thrilled to see the show as a nostalgia thing, not because I'm looking to honor MJ.

When I was a kid we lived in the Disney area and had season passes. Our favorite park was Epcot and we would even just go after school to watch the fireworks. I was a bit disappointed when I became an adult and wanted to take my own children that there were really not any attractions left in future world from my childhood. Obviously Disney cannot bring back any of the old rides, but they can bring back a show like Captain EO that people like me would love to share with my children. I can't wait to see this show and relive a bit of my childood... just hope it will still be playing in Oct.

I totally agree with you! I loved EPCOT so much as a kid and it makes me sad that my kids will never get to see it the way I did. :sad2: Yes, there are some cool new things, but it still just isn't the same.

I am excited that Captain EO has been brought back, even just for a little while. There are tons of attractions I wish could come back that have been long gone...just to remember "the good old days".

I am a MJ fan and This Is It was amazing. I feel so bad that he is gone and think he was a victim of a bad upbringing in the public eye.

Like someone else said - MJ is HUGE around the world, and Disney may get a spike of admission tickets during the time it is showing, especially from internation guests. It's all about business in the end.

Any word how long it will be around for? I am going in November and hope that it is still there then!

Like I said before it's easy to skip for those who have no interest. I should know because we've been skipping HISTA for years. ;) I will plan to see this one though but what do I know? I'd love to see Magic Journeys again too!

The Imagination pavilion needs a good, swift kick in the rear at this point, and if Captain EO can provide that, even temporarily until something new goes in, I'm for it. I feel like Imagination is floundering and directionless these days when it used to be a must-see. As for the show itself, it'll be fun to see it again, but it shouldn't stay too long. Something totally new and mind-bending is required.

What's next, the all new "Play Golf with Tiger Woods and "Friends"" attraction at WWoS??
:rotfl:
I mean if we're saying public perception and personal behavior shouldn't be taken into account if you've never been convicted of a crime....

(sorry, couldn't resist:littleangel:)

I barely remember seeing Captain EO and honestly I just can't watch HISTA much anymore,so I'm glad that they're bringing it back.I hope it's only for a year or so and then they can announce a new movie.

No, I didn't read the whole thread first but I saw it when my parents first took me to WDW and I remember it a little and I can't wait to see it again if it is still around when I am there in the fall.

Does anyone know how long Captain EO plans to run? We will be there in Ocotober and I am one who is very much looking forward to it, and I wasn't really even a fan. Just brings back fond memories of DL days gone by...

Oh and, HISTA was getting a little long in the tooth as well.

Its a public perception thing for me as well. Perhaps MJ was completely innocent - I can't hear his name without thinking "pedophile" which is not the word Disney really wants to pop into the minds of the thousands of mothers of kids at Disney every day.

Maybe Disney will film a new version of Lolita - animated. Its only literature and Nabokov was a very talented writer.

I remember seeing this when I was younger, and liked it alot. Granted, I have been a huge fan of MJ since age 2 or so. My son has take up that torch and spends a lot of time recreating the "Thriller" video with his lego's, and practicing dance moves. I'm sure he is going to love seeing this, and I'm so glad that they brought it back to World, and not just land.

Any word on how long it is supposed to be around for? I'm hoping this is not a couple month deal and then it is gone, because I won't be in Disney till November and I want my son to see it!

Not a big MJ fan, with or without the pedophile baggage. Talented, yes, but a bit to weird & creepy for my taste. Some believe he was guilty, others not...few will ever know the truth. As for him being celebrated in a WDW Park, isn't one of their most beloved stars a former felon, having done time on felony drug charges? Ready for something different in that space, as HISTA is showing it's age.
