Anyone else NOT text?

I am 36 years old and I have never sent a text in my life. I even took the texting off my phone because I don't even want to recieve them. I suppose when my dd gets a little older and I allow her to text on her phone, I'll start but for now I don't see the point. Of course I hate using my cell to me its just for function (emergencies), I really don't need to be in constant contact with everyone. I'm a loner, a rebel ;)

I text a lot because I hate getting stuck in a long conversation with someone on the phone and I like the privacy of texting (not that I have anything to really be private about I just don't like a whole store or place knowing my business). Oh, and I spell out every word. Bad/short spelling drives me bonkers and it only takes a second to spell a word correctly.

I also try to keep my phone away from my head as much as possible because of the radiation.

I text, a lot. I don't, however, text when I should be paying attention to someone/something else. Not when driving, conversing, having dinner, etc. Usually it's the only way to send and receive information to my DH and DSis, who have been helping out with mom and her health issues.

I have no problem with people who text, I do however think that there are many times when it's inappropriate; I would think common sense would dictate when those times are. :confused3

Unfortunately, common sense isn't so common. ;)

We don't have texting or fancy phones. DH won't go for it unless I agree to get rid of the land line. We were just up visiting my family and they all have texting. My sister and parents' phones never left their hands. There were several times we were in different cars than my sister and they would be texting each other. Pick up the damn phone and call the person.

No texting here either.
I don't even like carrying a cell phone. The family talked me into it. I often forget to even turn it on when I am out (no cell reception at home).
No twitter, facebook or any of those things either.

I am a texting convert. I thought it was faster to just call, but I have come around. I text all the time now.

Me too! I don't text constantly at all but it is very convenient to just send a message to my dd or my best friend. My dd will text me to let me know where she is but I insist that I speak to her after a couple of hours if she is out. I can only imagine the trouble I would;ve gotten into when I was a teen if I didn't have to speak to my parents on the phone. Hard to hide if you've been drinking when speaking where as on a text.....:confused3 Not that I think she isn doing that but then again if you asked my mom if I drank as a teen she would say never:rolleyes1

I don't text, don't even know how to and have no intrest in learning, I think the cell phone is a pain, only have it for emergency! I'm old school, the more important you are the harder it is to get a hold of you!
Same here. I refuse to be anyone's "beck and call" girl. (Well, maybe except for DH) There's no reason for me to be available to everyone 24/7/365.

I really wish there was a rule of etiquette when it comes to texting. People would never consider talking on a call in a meeting but text like it's alright in one. I've had clients sit across me in my office texting away like it was common to do. It's RUDE.:headache:
While I wouldn't do it with clients, I have been known to walk away from co-workers and acquaintances who were talking to me and interupted our conversation so they could carry on another conversation via either cell phone or, more recently, text messaging. I got tired of having to repeat something I already said but they missed because they were reading or writing a text message.

Sorry. Not tolerating it. Come get me when we can have each other's undivided attention. My time is too valuable to be wasting it waiting for you to decide what needs your attention more: me or your damn phone.

I had a small sign in my office that said "when talking to me, please don't be looking at your phone. You came to see me for a reason";)

I went to a meeting where everyone was required to put their phones in a basket until the meeting was over. The COL assured everyone that if he could do without his blackberry for half an hour so could all the others.
These are both excellent ideas. We used to have an intern who spent 75% of his day texting when he was supposed to be researching. Let's just say his research wasn't the quality we'd expected and I'm very glad he's somewhere else now.

I have a new Motorola Droid. There's an app that enables you to speak into the phone, and it will text someone for you. Gee... a voice text. Back in the old days, we used to call that a PHONE CALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Using LOL, BFF, etc... give me a break!! Facebook, Twitter, MySpace... you've got to be kidding. "Lisa is making dinner, waiting for her husband to get home"... LIKE I CARE!!!

I have one question though... considering everyone texts all day long, what do they talk about when they see each other in person??

Thanks for the rant. Have a great weekend!!

Me too. Never, ever thought I would but here I am doing, lol. DD is not allowed to have her phone on at school except for lunch so I'll send her a quick message if I need to. Just as quick if not quicker then a phone call and definitely easier for her to just quick look and read rather then voice mail. I'll send DH a list through text, it's quick and he doesn't forget anything. It's also improved my relationship with my much younger brother. Seriously having a 'real' conversation with him is almost impossible and made me avoid his phone calls. Now we're texting buddies.:rotfl:

I'm not constantly texting, nor would I ever ignore someone to take one. I use capitals, punctuation and proper spelling. (Heck, today's phones give you the word about %60 percent of the time.) I notice when I do this others follow suit so I'm never stuck trying to translate what they're trying to say.

I text to my grown kids only.

One -we lunch once a week and its mailny to see what day we'll do lunch & discuss restaurants.
Other-its when they are free to talk on the phone-very busy social lfe
;)

This week I had some personal great news and texted both-it was around 1pm and both were working -one texted me back-the other called.:)

As for Facebook-I'm a recent joiner-resisted forever.

I have reconnected to a bevy of relatives, whom I used to see only at reunions. Love seeing pictures of their kids and grandkids-i LOVE it!

:thumbsup2
