Anyone else NOT text?

I don't text and I'm so cheap about it I had Verizon block it on my line so I didn't get charged when people text me.

I get really annoyed when I see people texting EVERYWHERE. I probably shouldn't be annoyed by it, but it just bugs me, people constantly exercising their thumbs.

I agree. :thumbsup2 I have recently gone back to school (37 year old freshman!!). The "kids" in all of my classes text NON-STOP. It's so annoying! Absolutely no respect for the professors or anyone sitting around them who would actually like to learn something. Why even come to class??? :confused3

I have a 15 year old son. We bought him a cell phone for Christmas last year (2008). He was told it was specifically for emergencies and to let me know when he would be home from basketball games, cross country/track & field matches, band, etc. We had the texting and internet blocked in the store as we were paying for it. He is now asking for texting. We have Go Phones, so I don't put alot of money on them. I have told him if he wants to text, he can get a job and pay for his bill on his own. He hasn't gotten a job yet! :rotfl:

I'm 27 and I don't text. No need.....and besides, looking at my students, its truly an addiction.I really don't have a problem with it, however, do it when its appropriate. Not when you're out at dinner, in a classroom, etc. I had Verizon block texts too!

And just think of the deformed thumbs that will begin to occur to 20-30 years! :rotfl:

No texting here. Although someone my DH knows will text him occasionally and it really annoys me that we get charged for it.

And besides, my thumbs hate exercise! :thumbsup2

I don't and I doubt I ever will. I'm too blind and am too fond of vowels.

ME! I don't text, I don't do twitter, I don't do MySpace or Facebook and even though I am still in my 20s, not doing these things makes me feel old. Growing up, I was always the first person, that I knew, to do anything involving technology. We got our first PC when I was 13 or 14 and no one I knew had one. We were the first people I knew to have a laptop. I was chatting on forums before my friends even knew what they were. I was booking flights around the country online and it astounded my friends that I didn't have to go through a travel agent and still got awesome deals. That I could just get online and do it all without calling anyone. But I liked all those things and I just don't want to text, tweet or create a MySpace page. Maybe I am just gettng old :confused3

I know !! I am only 29 and do not text, twitter, have a facebook or myspace. It does make me feel old ! :lmao: I don't like facebook or myspace because if I want to share info/pictures with someone or keep in touch with someone I will in person or on the phone

For those who get charged...does it happen even if you don't read/open the text? If I don't open it, I don't get charged. I do have a plan now, b/c I like texting (hate talking on the phone; I'd rather email or text!), but even when I didn't have a plan, I wasn't charged if I did not *open* it.

I only text when my DS is out, and I am somewhere that I can not talk on the phone. Besides I could hold three conversations by the time I text a message out, I am really slow at it.:rotfl:

I texted. Once. I think. I sent my brother a text to let him know I got home (2,800 miles) okay - and I spelled out everything. I think I sent it, but he never wrote back.

I don't text and I'm 24. :rolleyes1

I'm sorry, but it would really get on my nerves in college when people would sit in class and text under the table. Ugh! Seriously, nobody is that important.

Even on Christmas Eve a couple of my cousins couldn't put their phones away.

No, and neither does my 17yo son.... now THAT'S strange!

I really wish there was a rule of etiquette when it comes to texting. People would never consider talking on a call in a meeting but text like it's alright in one. I've had clients sit across me in my office texting away like it was common to do. It's RUDE.:headache:

I had a small sign in my office that said "when talking to me, please don't be looking at your phone. You came to see me for a reason";)

I went to a meeting where everyone was required to put their phones in a basket until the meeting was over. The COL assured everyone that if he could do without his blackberry for half an hour so could all the others.

I started really texting about a year ago. I wouldn't even know how to speak in text lingo. I still spell everything. Now I have a phone with a keyboard so that makes it alot easier. It's really nice because I can just leave my husband a little message for him like this morning I sent him a good luck on his test text. Im not sure if my niece knows how to call just text. I almost dropped the phone when my dad sent me a text. I thought someone had stolen his phone.

I feel like an old fuddy duddy, but I don't text unless I have to. I don't pay for texting on my line, so I get charged when someone texts me.
Marsha

Did you know that you can call your cell phone provider and ask them to block texting to your line?,then you will NOT ever see a text someone sends to you and you will not have to worry about getting charged for it.

Nope I do not text. I don't like it.

Oddly, both kids have texting avaiolable on their phones and are allowed to sue it and neither does:lmao: DD HATES texting and will go on and on about how it is killing the language and so many of her friends cannot utter an original sentence anymore and just end up stringing together a bunch of phrases which get abbriveiated in textspeak. DS11 just doesn't like all those little letters (he struggels with fine motor skills) and would rather talk to his friends than read and write.

No, I don't text. I believe in talking. If I can't talk somewhere, I probably shouldn't be texting either. If you think people don't notice, they do and it's rude.

Bingo! I finally told my 32 year old sister at our family Christmas to put her #%*% phone away as she was being rude. We see her a few times a year and she spent almost the entire day texting on her phone. :sad2:

I don't text, but incoming texts are free through US Cellular, so we don't have to worry about that part of it. We're only charged for the ones we send. :)

My Tracfone is so old, it doesn't even have the ability to text! All I can do is send and receive calls... :teeth:

And I have no interest in getting a new phone so that I can text. The phone I have works; "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I text, a lot. I don't, however, text when I should be paying attention to someone/something else. Not when driving, conversing, having dinner, etc. Usually it's the only way to send and receive information to my DH and DSis, who have been helping out with mom and her health issues.

I have no problem with people who text, I do however think that there are many times when it's inappropriate; I would think common sense would dictate when those times are. :confused3

Anyone else not text? I feel like I can call someone and tell them something much quicker than I can push a bunch of tiny keys.

Marsha

My mom is the only person I know who doesn't text and she is slowly coming around.

No...sometimes it's not easier to call. I can't get to my phone while I am at work so if my family needs me to know something before I leave work and drive home they have to text me. I check it when I am off the clock and then I know that I need to "pick up milk" or whatever.

Please don't leave me a stupid voice mail...that means I have to call the voice mail and listen to the stupid message when a text would have worked way better.

Texting at Disney ,"meet me at Space Mountain when you are done with Splash mountain" works way better than trying to call someone who can't answer or hear their phone when they are on a ride.

Say my DD16 is out on a Friday night, I can send her a text that just says, "ETA" and I will get a text back with where she is and when she is coming home and her friends don't have to know that mom is checking up on her! :thumbsup2

I used to almost never talk to my sisters because we were all too busy to chat on the phone, but we text each other all the time and it's a nice way to stay connected in a busy world.

If you don't want to text 24/7 like my DD16 that's fine, but texting can be a valuable way of communication.
