Anyone else just DREADING winter?

Where are you from? As a northerner I wish I was able to run my AC in my house during November. We have two seasons here in Buffalo. Season 1: cold and snowy, which lasts forever. Season 2: nice outside but only last a couple of months.
It kinda depends. Some people consider something like 55 cold. If that's true, then it's definitely like 8 months of winter :)

If those mid-range temps are pleasant to you, it can be closer to 8 months of outdoor weather. But I did realize that yesterday was probably the end of the road for going outside without being bundled up.

I dread winter especially snow. We've had mild temperatures this week but that will be ending soon It starts getting dark before 5, I hate it. My DD went to bed early the first few days of the time change. Wish we could move to Florida.

I absolutely despise it.

I grew up in Pittsburgh. I now live in Erie (right along Lake Erie). And I thought pittsburgh weather was bad.. OMG. I don't have covered parking in my apartment complex (big mistake). Thankfully my company gives us free parking in a garage. But really, digging my car out of a foot of snow is THE WORST.

You get the nasty winds from Lake Erie.

Stay warm:)

I woke up this morning and had to change two truck batteries (drive a big diesel) and shovel the driveway. It was 1 degree.

Then had to walk across the economy lot (parked in the last row!) at DIA to catch a flight. Up to 3 degrees! I think I lost an ear and the tip of my nose during the trek!

Yeah, dreading winter! I may need to move back to FL :)

Not since we moved to FL. :thumbsup2

Originally from IN, where it was gray from November to March. I do believe the sunshine down here has made me feel better. I do NOT miss having to get up, scrape ice off the car while the wind's whipping up my clothes, and drive on icy roads to get to work.

We like winter, but it does stick around too long. We just got over a foot of snow. It will not be melting until May.

I can't WAIT for winter! Now... I don't have kids, so I don't have to worry about school cancelations or any other kid-related impacts. I grew up in a part of the country that had 4 very distinct seasons, then moved to a part of the country that basically has one looooong hot miserable season, followed by a very short cold season. I really hate the fact that I am STILL running the AC in my house... on November 12th. I long for the days of fires in the living room and needing to wear socks and AT LEAST a jacket outdoors...

That said, I feel for everybody who gets the winter "blahs" (blues?) as I know that seasonal affective disorder can be horrible. My grandpa was deeply affected by it, which was the catalyst for my grandparent's to become Arizona "snowbirds" for 3 months out of the year.

As a small comfort, at least winter brings with it the holidays and football! :cool1:

But, But, that all ends in January followed by 5-5 1/2 mos. of winter! For we Canadians. ;)

Why pray tell did you leave!?

I'm already sick of winter. One snowstorm, and two days of cold weather, and I am done. Is it April yet?

(I am planning a winter escape this year. It keeps me sane).

I guess the way you guys feel about winter is the way I feel about summer. The long endless days of 100+ temps from sun up to sundown and into the night. Some days its still 100 degrees at midnight.

I lived through 43 summers here in Az and I'm about done with them. I dread the summers starting in March every year. Then by Sept we are begging for mercy.

I dream of leaving for the summers every year and going somewhere nice and cool. Maybe one day when we are retired. UGH! Some years I don't know how I'll make it through another summer season.

Well - I give you an example of how the Kaufmann family set up their famous weekend and winter residences. One was Fallingwater in PA. The other was the Kaufmann Desert House in Palm Springs. Seems like a pretty good way to handle the weather if you can afford it.

Granted I like my local weather, but if I had enough money, I might just get a winter house in the Southwest where it's pretty cheap and a summer house in Lake Tahoe (which would not be cheap).

I am looking forward to winter--we moved to Florida in August!

I hear that the Portland (Oregon) area is expecting 2-4" of snow Thursday--unusual for the area. We always got stuck in our house when it snowed because the city would not plow the streets. We had to wait until it melted to get out!

I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures on Facebook as I sit on my porch wearing shorts, a tee shirt, and sunglasses :sunny:

Sandals, sigh Florida!

At least we can still enjoy the scent of sunscreen surrounding our hats! ;)

A winter trip is what keeps me sane as well :).

Yes, with ever fiber of my being. I hate it so much. I've promised myself I'm not going to complain this year. We've had about 3 days below 55 and I'm already missing the heat and humidity of July . . . I can't fathom living any further north.

Absolutely dreading it. I am a school crossing guard and stand outside.

I LOVE winter. Like a poster upthread, I can't stand summer. The heat, the humidity, the restless nights. NO THANKS

Winter is Christmas and snow and cuddling up in extra blankets. Sure it gets cold, but that's when you put on another sweater or pair of socks. As I always say, if you are cold you can always get warmer but if you are naked and still hot, not much you can do.

I have good air conditioning, so I'm happy in summer. Even if it is really hot outside, I come in and cool down quickly and feel good.

But in winter, if I get really chilled outside, it's sometimes really hard to get warmed up even when I come in to my well-heated house. I can put on socks and extra sweaters and I still feel chilly for an hour or two. Some nights I need to take a hot bath before I go to bed to warm up enough to sleep.

Somehow it seems easier to cool down than to warm up.

The older I get the less I like winter. The frigid temperatures, snow, ice, and the almost-never-letting-up wind. Now a sunny, mild day with snow on the ground? I can handle that, and actually think snow is beautiful when it first covers the ground, especially when there is sunshine and blue sky above. :)

I do tend to "hibernate" in the winter and if I don't have to get out of the house and go somewhere I'm happy as a clam staying indoors. I force myself to get out once a week, to do the grocery shopping and visit my Mom/clean house for her but the winter days I can just stay at home are my favorite.

Getting dark by 5:00 doesn't bother me when I'm home, I just turn on some of my small, decorative lamps and light a candle or two and snuggle in for the evening. I don't enjoy driving home in the dark though, I'm not used to it anymore (when I worked outside the home I was used to it).
