Anyone else just DREADING winter?

Guys, I feel the same as all of you. I detest winter even though AL doesn't see much snow or the lengthy bitter cold. I just can't get warm and I miss my flip flops. Had to commit to wearing boots this week and I got a sick feeling in my stomach. After New Year's, I'm in the dump. The holidays are over and so is college football. I'm always dieting after the new year, so I'm starving. It's so hard to face what's coming. Nothing good happens until spring.

We will all have to think of things to cheer us and get us through. I like the fall cleaning, winter puzzle or craft ideas. Maybe try to get away to the beach for a weekend just for a change of scenery. Anybody have any vitamin or supplement ideas that would curb the SAD?

It was in the 70's here today but going down in the 50's tomorrow.

I don't usually mind the colder weather until Jan - Feb. It gets tiresome by then.

Luckily this year we have a beginning of Feb Disney trip planned.

I feel for those of you in the northern states. Perfect time to start planning your next trip to give some hope to those dark, cold days.

:yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay:

Me 12 more to go till im out of here and I will never have to see snow ever never again unless its from a lodge, with adult drink, in front of fireplace.

How awesome. Have you mentioned (I might have missed it) what is getting you out of Ohio and where you are going? You don't have to answer. Just being nosy!

Retirement and where ever we want. My only request is no snow. Seriously thinking small plot of land in fla and RV.

Haha your nosy :goodvibes

I can't WAIT for winter! Now... I don't have kids, so I don't have to worry about school cancelations or any other kid-related impacts. I grew up in a part of the country that had 4 very distinct seasons, then moved to a part of the country that basically has one looooong hot miserable season, followed by a very short cold season. I really hate the fact that I am STILL running the AC in my house... on November 12th. I long for the days of fires in the living room and needing to wear socks and AT LEAST a jacket outdoors...

That said, I feel for everybody who gets the winter "blahs" (blues?) as I know that seasonal affective disorder can be horrible. My grandpa was deeply affected by it, which was the catalyst for my grandparent's to become Arizona "snowbirds" for 3 months out of the year.

As a small comfort, at least winter brings with it the holidays and football! :cool1:

Each year I dread winter more and more. Last winter I just lost it by March I was ready to pack a bag and leave in the night and never look back. If I did not have kids I would leave now. I hate the winter I get so depressed and the ice and snow just gets to me.
I feel sick to my stomach every time I look at the weather and see how cold it is going to be and how much snow we will be getting.

The older I get, the more I do..:sad2:

I feel for everyone getting such extreme temps so early, and the snow, it just makes winter that much longer

We somehow missed it, but I know we will more than make up for it. We are above average in temps, and that in itself is scary.. I got my snow tires on today..

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I agree. The older I get the more cold weather bothers me, especially my knees. Last winter here in Buffalo was brutal. And we are supposed to get an even worse this year.

Not looking forward to this. Yesterday it was 60 degrees out and now they are predicting snow.:(

Where are you from? As a northerner I wish I was able to run my AC in my house during November. We have two seasons here in Buffalo.

Season 1: cold and snowy, which lasts forever.
Season 2: nice outside but only last a couple of months.

Don't forget the brief "mud season" which lasts for about a month between Season 1 and Season 2. It's warm enough to go outside but all that melting snow just turns everything to mud.

I am somewhat consoled to know that other people hate winter as much as me.

Maybe we should start a list of things to do that can make winter a smidge more bearable. :confused3

I really like the idea of getting a puzzle table going. I'm going to for sure incorporate that one. :thumbsup2

One thing that sort of helps, is that my daughter plays club volleyball, and at least a couple times over the winter we stay in a hotel. Just being able to swim in the pool and sit in the hot tub gives a short little break from being cooped up in the house for weeks on end.

I also like to do house projects to keep me busy. Picking a room a weekend seems to keep me on track. Purge everything, maybe paint the room or a piece of furniture and switch around the furniture.

I know some of my friends will go to the mall just to get out and walk around. That's not for me, but it might work for someone else.

What else can we do while we endure the frozen tundra?

:headache:

It's funny I use to hate winter. But the last few years I don't mind it so much. Two years ago we upgraded our heating system, it's amazing how warm it feel when you run the heat at 70, compared to years of it set at 62. I also splurged on a down coat from LLBean. That makes a big difference when going out, I love it. We homeschool and set our own schedule, and now my boys are big enough to do all the shovelling without any help from me. My DH works snow removal for the city so I have always had to shovel my house alone. Add all that up and it's like the stars have aligned and winter is much nicer! Add a jigsaw puzzle and a fire in the fire place and I'm good to go! Until March, then I will start complaining and begging for spring!

Threecrazykids, a list is a great idea! Something to look at when you are feeling blue and can't think of what to do. I would love to hear what others do to get through. Winter can be long here.

I wouldn't say dreading, but I am not looking forward to it. We're supposed to have snow next week, along with ice. :headache: This is according to the Weather Channel so I think I am going to take each day as it comes. That's it.

Winter = holidays, peppermint beverages at my favorite coffee places, holiday-themed movies, seeing my puppy play in the snow, and warm fireplaces. My bedroom gets kind of cold, and being in NJ we've had some rough winters but other than that, I kinda love winter. Just try to think of the good things that come with this time of year ;)

I loathe winter! I'm almost certain that I have Raynaud's, though I have not yet been diagnosed officially, and it's painful and oftentimes debilitating in the winter.

I hate having high heating bills even though we keep our thermostat low (yes, that doesn't help the Raynaud's, but we're on a budget here!). Our house is old, drafty, and not very well insulated (see above note!).

I don't like having to shovel snow and scrap ice off the cars.

I suffer from the lack of light in the winter- I need my sunshine and longer daylight hours!!

I wish we could move to an area of the country that doesn't have a hard winter season, but we're probably stuck in New England for a while yet.:sad2:

I absolutely despise it.

I grew up in Pittsburgh. I now live in Erie (right along Lake Erie). And I thought pittsburgh weather was bad.. OMG. I don't have covered parking in my apartment complex (big mistake). Thankfully my company gives us free parking in a garage. But really, digging my car out of a foot of snow is THE WORST.

Me, me, me, me, me. I have started dreading winter more each year - started about 4 years ago. I am just done with it. It is NOT the cold...I love the cold temps. I hate the snow, the ice, and most importantly - the dark when I leave and when I come home. I know that happens everywhere, but in the summer, my kids can still run around outside when it is dark. Not so much in the winter. The dark just adds an extra layer of cold and wet.

I wish we could find our current lives in a southern state. Good jobs, good education for the kids, nice house. MN suckers you in with the jobs and education and then BAM that beeeoch Mother Nature socks you in the jaw.
