Anyone else just DREADING winter?

I hate every winter a little more than the one before. Right now I think I'm probably living in denial, because I'm taking the position that there is no way in hell this winter can possibly be worse than last winter and no long-range forecast is going to convince me otherwise.

I'm hoping for some southern breaks this winter but we're planning on road tripping our way to FL so a really terrible weather might even interfere with us escaping it. :(

Hate it! I leave work at 5:30, it's already dark. Today was probably the last good day - it was 70 degrees here in Pittsburgh! Went out for a walk at lunchtime and was actually hot in my spring jacket. Tomorrow will be dropping temps, down to 35 in the afternoon. Ugh......:sad1:

Count me in on hating winter as well. I wouldn't doubt that I have SAD if someone said I did. I, like others, do ok through the holidays. But after that? I'm ready for spring January 2nd.

I can somewhat deal with days that are cold, as long as the sun is out. For me it's the relentless days of cold and cloudy, gloomy weather that about put me over the edge.

If I could uproot my entire extended family and move everyone south I would in a heartbeat.

One thing I will say though...you'll never get me to celebrate Christmas without snow. Christmas to me is the huge white snowflakes falling softly, stockings over the fire, snuggled up under a blanket, soaking in the glow of the lights from the Christmas tree. I can't fathom a Christmas with palm trees. Don't throw rotten tomatoes at me please - I just can't picture it but plenty of people do it and swear I'd get over it...I just don't think it would ever "feel" like Christmas without snow.

:duck:

To say I dread winter isn't stating it strongly enough. :worried: I loathe it. Like another poster said ... the holidays get me through to January, but then January through March really gets me down. I hate the cold. I honestly think that some people experience cold differently than others. The best way to describe being cold to me is PAINFUL. DH gets cold and he's just like "meh."

I have some hope for this winter simply because the winter coats on my horses aren't crazy thick like they were this time last year. The didn't predict a bad winter early in the season then and my horses were giant wooly worms by late October. And it was an AWFUL winter. They are fuzzy now, but nothing like this time a year ago. So I hope they are right.

I live in an area that doesn't have "real winters". However, it's only about three hours (give or take traffic delays) to drive to real snow.

That being said, we're getting an outdoor hockey game this winter. Not quite sure if the conditions are going to be good. I heard the game last year at Dodger Stadium didn't have ideal conditions since it was too warm.

I am so dreading it.

I dont do well with cold, I like snow if it melts the same day and I can stay home and bake.

I bought boots that I can wear just in case instead of ruining the ones that werent snow worthy last year.

I can do hot and humid all day every day, which this summer was really mild, but cold, polar vortex crap, not a fan.

I've been enjoying the cool down here. We're hoping for a very wet winter to help ease our drought. The more rain the better!

I honestly don't know how you guys in the cold weather spots endure winter. I live in CA and barely own a real winter coat. A cold day here is where you pull out a sweater and a scarf. Today was in 70s and it looks like it will continue this way for awhile.

My hat is off to you! I spent two weeks in Colorado last year and couldn't wait to get out of the snow. It was so cold! I felt like the cold got into my bones.

I hope everyone has a better winter than last year. That polar vortex looked really miserable.

Record high on Sunday. I had on flip flops and shorts.

Today we set records for the coldest November 11th on record.

Nope, not ready for winter. Especially when we go from 70's to subzero in a matter of two days. Give me the 70's back. Or at least give us fall with those beautiful brisk, sweater days.

:yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay:

Me 12 more to go till im out of here and I will never have to see snow ever never again unless its from a lodge, with adult drink, in front of fireplace.

I'm really struggling with it. I'm still not over last winter . I like hot and humid weather and was disappointed with a cooler than average summer.

I am planning a few coping tricks for this year ;). I have a light box which I rarely used last year. I am pledging to use it every day :goodvibes. But still, I am dreading it. Enough to plan a Disney trip!

Several years ago, DH and I drove down in conditions we would never drive in to get to work :rotfl:. Our flight had been canceled due to one major snow storm, and another storm was on its way. We finally decided to drive just to get out. It was a couples only trip and we had lots of guilty moments about the kids stuck in the snow (with grandparents). We drove on bumpy ice for many miles before we finally got out of the snow and ice. It was hugely irresponsible and just what I needed :goodvibes. I felt like I fought mother nature and won.

You mean escaped her cold death grip on your soul right?::yes::

Each year, winter becomes more difficult for me to bear. Last year about did me in. I don't know if I can handle another one like last. I don't have SAD or anything like that but the cold is just unbearable for me. I chill to the bone and get all grumpy and crabby from being so cold.

I'm with the 90% of the DISers on this thread--I hate cold weather. I live in north Georgia and we usually have pretty moderate weather. We have 4 seasons. In the winter we usually have a few weeks off & on of cold below-32-degree weather, with ice or a small amount of snow a few times. A good winter coat can last you 15 years if you don't gain weight. :thumbsup2

Last year nearly killed me and DH. We live in the metro-Atlanta area and y'all know how that played out. :joker: Thankfully, DH & I had paid attention to the weather reports and headed to the store several days before. We were at home on that fateful day so we got iced/snowed in at home for a few days with lots of food, wine, and firewood.

DH has severe lung disease, so he doesn't handle weather extremes well. I have severe arthritis in my hands, feet, and knees, so I don't handle cold weather well either. We have toyed with the idea of moving to FL--for about 10 min. He's from Pensacola, FL. I'm from Mobile, AL. So both of us are well aware of how hot and humid it is down there. We'd rather put up with some really cold, nasty weather for a few weeks than suffer through an unbearably hot summer.

Last year an El Niño fall and winter was predicted in the late summer, but then the predictions kept changing for a drier, warmer winter than average. We ended up having the warmest winter on record while much of the country was in a frozen winter vortex. The same things is happening again this year. A strong El Niño for this part of the country has again weakened.

We had a few storms predicted last year, but they all passed us by. We only had one delayed day and no snow days (and it doesn't take much white stuff out here to have a snow day). Honestly, it was a bit boring.

I'm hoping we get at least one good dump this year, but this drought makes it less likely. Overall though, I only like it when it's snowing and we get to miss a day of school. The aftermath of bitter cold weather along with ice and dirty snow is not appealing. I sympathize with those who will be dealing with that for the next several months.

Absolutely! Of course, she got her revenge when we drove home in a southern snowstorm (almost half the way up Rte. 95), and arrived home to way more snow than I've ever seen in my life. Good thing our kind neighbor plowed our driveway. It was that bad.

This Fall I changed around the family room furniture. Gave everything a good vacuum and dust while I was at it. Suddenly I got a refreshed feeling about the winter to come. I even went out and got a few new jigsaw puzzles and set up the game table in the corner. I had gotten so blue the last few winters that I hadn't done any puzzles. Now I'm rarin' to go again. Only challenge is keeping the cat away from the pieces!

I'm getting snow tires put on the turbo charged AWD car this week. If I can't leave winter, I at least will have some fun with it! :drive:

I also have about 12 lego sets I have bought over time and never put together.

that's a great idea!!! "Fall cleaning" instead of spring cleaning. Making things feel a bit new with rearranging. I love it!

I'm going to cozy up our house for winter. I love your puzzle table idea, I'm going to pull out our puzzles and games and keep them out. Keep more blankets and pillows on the couches, etc. Might as well embrace it!
