yeah, right. you can't start with an anti-spanish-speaking premise and then pretend that you are just wondering if anyone ELSE has a problem. the little "thumbs up" for the monorail announcement doesn't erase the fact that you began this thread with racist undertones.

why on earth would you think that an anti-spanish topic wouldn't start a "flame" in our current culture? if you don't like spanish, own up to it. don't try to excuse yourself, it insults our intelligence.

p.s. where's the sombrero smiley?

Wow Bitter are we? Since when did "does anyone else think the extra spanish in WDW mean i hate spanish people? Seems like you have your own issues to have to deal with and not lash out on others. I think this should be the end of this thread before someone pops a vein :wave2:

Ps: I'll tell you where you can find the sombrero smiley :rolleyes1

wow this has taken a turn for the worst here at the end. however i don't understand what the big deal is with there being a foreign language spoken. aren't we teaching foreign languages in schools and "teaching" our children to accept everyone no matter who they are or where they come from and embrace our differences. ( i use the term 'teaching' loosely because of all the recent school shootings and news of children beating up other kids because they are different. apparently somewhere along the way we forgot to teach "Niceness 101" in kindergarted) while walking around disney world on previous trips, i can't begin to tell you how many languages i heard, if anything it's sad that they aren't all represented. did you know that they make maps of the parks in different languages too, oops maybe we should get rid of those too. And just so you know, this is the United States, we are a country on the continent of North America, we ourselves are not America, but that comes with the territory of some people thinking they are the only ones that really matter. JMO, you said you didn't want flaming, well it seems to me that a question like this wouldn't have been brought up without the slightest idea that it would turn this heated.

Nope. I love Spanish. Love the way it sounds and flows. I can't remember specifically hearing Spanish anywhere other than the monorail (I seem to remember it on an attraction, but can't remember which one) - they can't take away the Spanish on the monorail! I just wouldn't be the same!

Doesn't bother me in the least.

I completely agree with you, also it is hilarious when you are on BTM and you get the ol'miner western speak and then the same dialogue en espanol :rotfl2:

I think it's good for them to keep the translations because if it's not in Spanish you could have people stopping and sitting in the middle of the rows, people smoking in non designated areas.

I guess I never even noticed it, so it must not bother me. I can't imagine why it would bother anyone, like all you are doing is sitting there anyway. Does Stitch speak Spanish too? That would be cool. I am probably too busy talking to the person next to me and I just don't hear it. Maybe the OP was just kidding and trying to see if she could start one of those flame threads that will get locked. Because there can't really be anyone who would find Spanish offensive, that would just be silly when there are so many other more worthy irritating issues at WDW; like ECVs, Heely's, outdated refillable mugs, pool-hoppers, and of course the far reaching terrible effects of the DDP. I mean really who could possibly complain about Spanish when WDW has all these other problems! :confused3

Ok i'm going to be honest here even though i'm new, I get the point yeah i believe it could be annoying, I mean sometimes I hate it when i'm here in mexico and I see signs in english, it's like if you come to Mexico i'll want you to at least know some spanish, but let's face it, disneyworld is international, I'm going for the first time in 2008, and I don't care if they speak or say anything in spanish, but my mom doesn't speak english and I guess it would feel kind of nice to hear spanish there even if it's only on the monorail, I'm really proud, because even if i'm from mexico and i'm not even from a big city, I consider myself really good at speaking english and I know a little bit of french, but not everyone does, and the closest disney magic to mexico is disneyworld, or if you're on the other side of mexico well disneyland.

Just look at it as a lesson in spanish, it's fun.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Maybe this is a US thing because people from the US generally stay in the US for vacations? (I don't know if this is correct but from some of the replies on this thread I'm guessing it is). In the UK we generally go to Europe for our holidays. For example I've been to France, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Spain and Switzerland. Now I'll have a phrasebook with me to make myself understood but there is no way I could expect to be well travelled and know every language for every country I visit.

Although I don't expect it, it is really nice when somewhere I go has translations into english - it helps me get so much more out of it and I enjoy it more. Most places do have these translations because - hey - they profit from the tourism. I would guess thats why WDW does it because they profit so much from the spanish speaking dollar. Surely the boost for your economy is good?

Ok it only bothers me when I have to dial a phone and listen to a Spanish translation every time or in the work place. This is the USA and if you want to live and work here you should understand and speak the English Language just like if I went to their country to live and work I should know their language. As far as Disney or any park goes I can understand they need to have something in place for vistors.

Right on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A country that is bilingual will always have problems. Language is a common trait that pulls people and a country together. Just look north of the boarder (French versus English) if you don’t believe that.

Oh, and let’s bring up the noble Europeans who speak multiple languages. The must speak multiple languages because of the proximity of countries with different languages. But what is odd – they all strive to learn English!!! (this at a time when want everyone in the US to speak Spanish???)

The other question is why as a country must we accommodate the Spanish speaking immigrants when we expect every other nationality to learn English? Is there some racism behind this? (i.e the liberal elites don’t believe that Spanish speaking individuals are not smart enough to learn English)

When I was in grad school I had several Indian students tell me that the US needed to define English as the official language. In Indian, there are over 50 official languages and all government documents must be prepared in each. The cost and complications associated with that approach are staggering.

Well off the soap box

I thought the monorail spiel was in Portuguese. :teeth:

Either way, I can't believe it would bother someone. That's just sad.

I am so proud of myself that I got the gist of this from my high school and college spanish classes! And yes, she probably will need help with the translation! This has gotten to be somewhat ugly and might have been started just to :stir: .

That's NOT what cmassey said:

Not liking a language is ENTIRELY different from not liking the people who speak that language (and, for the record, Spanish is spoken in MANY more countries than just Spain).

Oh, did you take that comment to be an attack, too? It's not just me?

Thanks for the offer; excellent suggestion (and stop showing off :teeth: ) and you're a much kinder person than I!

Nah - Portuguese isn't nearly as common as Spanish!

Well said.

Thank goodness that the countries I have visited have signs in English. Sure I could try to speak the language but Im not to sure how for I would get with just a hello and thank you.

Have an open mind OP, you had to expect people to comment (even if it was just an opinion)

Can you please translate it for the rest of us? My Spanlish is kinda weak. :lmao:

Why do people start threads then get angry when they don't get the type of responses they were expecting? :stir:
