My youngest DS (14) has always been such a sweetie and I am closer to him than I am with my older DS.....he has always enjoyed helping me in the kitchen (cooking, not cleaning up). He has entered 4H cooking contests and won acknowledgment for what he has entered. Does anyone else have a DS that enjoys being in the kitchen? :goodvibes

My 5 year old DS likes to help me in the kitchen. :thumbsup2 He loves flipping through his Cooking For Kids cookbook and asks all the time if we can make some of the recipes. :)

:thumbsup2 That's great for him! Very cool!

My DS10 enjoys cooking very much and usually he makes supper once a week. My DD12 just started to like it. It's going to be a very cool thing once I get them to load the dishwasher right! :rotfl:

My 13 year old son loves to cook. He made his first omelet the other day and it came out perfect, while when I make them they usually look more like scrambled eggs :rotfl: . I'm thinking of making him weekend morning chef around here.

My DS doesn't actually cook yet, but loves to help me in the kitchen.
He says when he grows up he wants to be an actor and a chef! :teeth:

We watch Food Network together all the time. Iron Chef is one of his favorite shows.

My DS (16) is remarkable in the kitchen. He is in high school and majoring in culinary arts. He plans to attend Johnson & Wales in North Carolina when he graduates. His chef is entering him in competitions this year. The only downfall is that DD (15) complains that he dirties too many dishes when he is creating. Guess who has dishwashing as a chore?

Keep encouraging him. Who knows where the next Wolfgang Puck will come from?

MY DS(9) loves to well, try to cook. I woke up last mother's day to a not so great smell. I go running down the stairs to the kitchen where my wonderful son is lovingly trying to make me eggs for my Mother's day breakfast in bed. He is so sweet, but I took one bite and crunched into a mouthful of egg shell. Smiled at him and as soon as he left the room the eggs hit the trash can... He was never the wiser. The toast was perfect though! :rotfl2:

My 13 year old loves to cook, as long as it's something 'manly'. He does a fabulous stew, he's been making waffles since he was 4, and he's getting interested in a few other dishes, but things like pie are best left to Gramma to make. ;)

My brother wasn't all that interested in cooking until he moved out on his own, then he became a fantastic chef in his own kitchen. He considered being a 'real' Chef, but went into computer programming instead. His wife is (and KNOWS she is) the luckiest woman going, because he does almost all of the cooking. I hope DS follows in his footsteps.

My DS 16 likes to do a few things in the kitchen. His favorites are hamburgers, mac and cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, and sausage. I've shown him how to make french toast, his fav. breakfast, but he says I make it the best, so he 'lets' me make it for him. :cloud9: :rotfl:

DD 13 really likes to make a variety of things, especially chili, and is very helpful on the days I go to work in the office.

My DS13 likes to cook as well. He has Home Ec this quarter and has to make 10 at home things that have 3 or more ingredients so he has been making dinner once/twice a week.

My ds (11.5) loves to cook and serve :)

He made me a taco salad last week (I helped cut onions and other stuff) and he brought it to me, he'd made it look just like a large happy face (meat for hair and globs of sour cream for eyes with olives in the center). He's so funny......and I made one the next day using left overs and it wasn't nearly as tasty as the one he'd created for me :), that extra bit of creativity and love made a difference.

He's always the one standing next to me while I'm decorating cakes or making cookies and he always helps. My dd (10) doesn't really care to cook...unless you count opening cans of Chef Boyardee and throwing it in the microwave.

i love to cook and always have, i do 95 % of the cooking at my house and dw loves it, i am exdperimental at times, other times its old stand bys, but ussually the ekitchen is my domain. i recently ( last week) reworked all of our overhead cabs and re organized them to meet what i wanted, and ddw loves what i did with it.

My DS 12 loves to cook. He actually looks up recipes at the school library to use. The last recipe was Swedish Meatballs. He also makes a mean Arroz con Pollo!

I'm proud!

my son is 17 and let me tell you it is funny watching him "plate" the food up he wants to be a police officer but he also wants a sencond degree in Culinary Arts . : )

i was just up there this weekend. J&W looks wonderful. I'd love for my son to go there!

My 6yo has gotten my family's genes. He LOVES to cook. I like how I get him to eat veggies this way.

Last month, I asked both of my kids if they'd like to plan and help cook a meal once or twice a month. They both loved the idea. Older son said he'd make hot dogs and baked beans, younger son said he'd make crabcakes and home fries!

I have a nephew that has always enjoyed cooking.

One night a week, we do something I like to call Kids in the Kitchen where the kids pick a menu and we all help cook it :goodvibes They do whatever is appropriate for their age. DS2 tears lettuce, DS7 shreds cheese, and DS9 does some of the more advanced stuff.

I started doing this because I don't want my kids to be like DH who doesn't do ANYTHING in the kitchen because his parents didn't teach him, therefore making it harder on his wife :teeth: But it has turned out to be a great activity for us to do together.

I was one of those DS's. When I was 13 I wanted to be a Chef.......now I am 34 and working as a professional chef. I am the Executive Chef working for the 14th largest food managment company in the world. Encourage your son to explore his creativity, follow his heart and make his dreams come true. Even if he does not become a chef, he will be investing in a life of happiness and fullfillment! Have your son look into the local school system and find out if they have a ProStart program for culinary arts. This is a program for high school students to explore culinary arts and is sponsored by the American Culinary Federation.

I have been blessed by God in my life and my carreer; your son could be heading down the same path. :thumbsup2
