We are going on 27th July for 3 weeks(can't wait) Same day Olympics start but not done on purpose to get away from them or anyhting like that, just the only time we could go. Anyway, didn't really think anything of it but have had 2 comments today from people today telling me it will be total chaos at the airports that day and why on earth did I choose to fly that day! What do you think. We have always been pretty lucky apart from usual delays with Virgin. In December 2010 we even got on the first Virgin flight after the snow after spending 3 days thinking our flight would be cancelled. We then got stuck in Orlando for an extra 4 days on the way back because it snowed again (it was great!)

Anyway, trtying not to worry but just interested now in what people think.
Thanks

well its always busy that week anyway it being the start of school hols. I can't think why it should be any worse because of the olympics unless they have found extra time slots for more aircraft to come and go! I mean a scheduled/charter airline can't just suddenly decide its busy and put another couple of planes each into service, or can they?!!:confused3 Either an airport is at full capacity or it isn't and at that time of year it normally is..;)

We are flying out that day too. I'm not worried about it at all. If anything they will be in more of a hurry to get the outgoing passengers out if they need the room for all these incoming Olympicgoers! :thumbsup2

Security may well be bumped up though so allow plenty of time to get through.

We fly out 2 days later, and I'm not bothered. Once I close my front door I'm on holiday! Nothing anyone can do about it, so we just have to suck it up.

Pam

I would imagine anyone that is going to be here for the opening ceremony would be here before then. I don't know where you are travelling from to get to the airport but if anything I would perhaps just allow a little extra time for the journey because no-one knows how the roads are going to go and how much it will bring out the silly drivers.

fly the day before it starts and come back the day after it finishes, great as we use the countdown clock for the Olympics,as our countdown
Paul

We fly out before it starts (18th July) land back day it ends (12th Aug)
Couldn't have planned it better, further away the better as far as I am concerned.:goodvibes

I am so jealous, I REALLY wish I didn't have to work through them.
I run a transport company and we are in and out of London all the time. It is going to be a complete nightmare.:sad2:

My Brother lives in Chiswick, they are even being affected out there. Last time I spoke to him he was close to securing a £1million contract for his business. He said if it was signed he was going abroad while the games were on. He is out in Vegas just now, I am waiting to hear if the contract has been signed.
Good luck to anyone in the London area, its going to be a nightmare.

I would say it might be busy going through security as security will be on high alertthroigh i should imagine

Thank you. I work in The City right near Liverpool Street and Moorgate stations both of which have been highlighted as "problems congestion" areas. I am not looking forward to going to work everyday :scared:

Feeling reassured. We live in Reigate just down the road from Gatwick so will leave extra time. We always check in the day before so hopefully that will save some time too.

we fly from Manchester on the 27th , i knew it was start day of the olympics but hadnt thought of the extra busy ness at airports!!!! oh well even more reason to start the holiday early and go to the airport earlier (all part of the fun) hope you all have a fab holiday by the way! and i too use the olympic countdown as a holiday countdown. see all you brits out there! any one else staying at Shearaton Vistana?

Oh my! I am arriving in London that morning...hmmm never considered the Olympics... However you have to ask, if you were travelling for the Olympics I don't think you would arrive on that day but days before surely??

We also fly out of gatwick onthe27th purposely planned to get away from the Olympics...we fly back on the 18 th Aug so hope to miss it all.....looking forward to a B2B on the Disney Fantasy and some fun in the parks after.

I think it would be busier in arrivals more than departures plus like someone said they would be there a few days before it starts

Going to avoid both arrivals and departures, leaving Southampton by ship on the 28th July, for a two week cruise.
No Olympics nonsense for us, thank you!
