Gosh, it was just a year ago that I started a thread asking how to camp. Now, here I am 1 year & 4 camping trips later completly addicted. I want to camp everywhere. i love just sitting by the fire, eating smores. Seeing everyone elses, tent or campers. Snuggling all night with the kids & telling silly ghost stories. Eating smores! Relaxing by the pool, knowing I have no where to be & nothing to do. I just love it! We even eat smores!!! It's the only time we spend as a family with nothing else distracting us. Our conversations are more fun. Everyone gets along so well. It's so much fun! maybe it comes from living around soo many people that you feel like you just can't get away unless you go to the woods.

I am seriously debating upgrading from our tent to a pop-up. I'm just afraid that it won't have the "togetherness, campy" feel that a tent has.

Someday, when we have a camper, I'm going to combine both of my addictions & go camping in Ft. Wilderness! Won't that be awesome!!

Anyone else with this odd addiction?

I can safely assure that I am not & never will be addicted to camping.

My dad was when I was growing up - I guess it's like being around an alcoholic; you've seen the ugly side & you become determined to never go there.

Nope. We went camping ONCE. It was one too many times for me.

The only way I would do that again is in a Winnebago with a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen!

I LOVE to camp. And I will be taking my daughters on their first "camping trip" later today. We are staying at a cabin in the woods but I'm setting a tent up for us for one of the 3 nights. :)

I love camping but not sure most people would agree that what I do is camping. We have a 39 foot 5th wheel toy hauler. It has a seperate bedroom, regular shower (very, very nice), loft for the kids to sleep in - two TV's (although we don't use them much - will sometimes watch a movie), a sofa sleeper, on board generator, and a 12 foot garage for our ATV's. We go out camping/riding all the time and have a blast. We enjoy not having the distractions of life, hanging out together and of course S'Mores!

I love camping! I began taking the rascals when they were 3 & 4, and then we went almost every year until 2002. I've missed it the past couple of years.

I think my favorite times were when we went 2 weeks in a row to Sequoia/Yosemite. Just heaven. :flower:

Absolutelyy not. You mean camping in a tent with no potty room? Direct me to the nearest Hilton, that is my idea of camping.

DH and I both grew up camping. I enjoy going now with the kids. DH would rather stay in a hotel. But we do have a good time when we go.

No danger of that happening.

DH used to like to camp, but then I introduced him to concierge service. :teeth:

Magicalmom - YES I love camping too. My husband and I started out in a tent and then when our daughter turned 2 we upgraded to a popup. I do not feel that we lost anything when we upgraded - just gained a little more comfort of not sleeping on the ground and having air condition. When we camp in our popup we do not carry a television, we do not have a potty within the popup - we do not even hook up the water - the sink is really too small to wash dishes and too aggrevating to wash our hands in so it becomes a space to hold items. We just pack games (indoors & outdoors) and spend time together.
Every year we spend one week at the beach and we look around at all the HUGE campers and just think - they really are not camping! Our family could afford a larger camper, but we choose to keep the popup so that we can keep that camping feeling.

It is the best times with my family. My DD are 13 and 16 now. We just returned from camping in the NC mountains at a PRIMITIVE campground in our tent. They are still talking about how much fun it was. And oh yeah -- s'mores can become very addictive.

Ellen

PS - my signature shows that we do love to combine our two addictions!

LOL I wish I could help you out here! I'm not a fan, but I get dragged camping with relatives in Colorado once in awhile. I just wanted to say that they have one of those jumbo deluxe motor homes and I sleep out under the stars -- I don't care how nice the camper/motor home is, I think they smell funny and I'm uncomfortable in them. I say keep the tent -- can't you camp at Ft. Wilderness with a tent?

By the way folks, those would make great bumper stickers:

I'd rather be in jail

I'd rather be getting a root canal

I took my kids for the first time 2 weeks ago 13 & 16. My son loved it and can't wait to go again. My Daughters idea of camping is the Hilton with a broken elevator. :teeth: I enjoy it and maybe with a camper I'd do it more often.

I like the idea of the camper for the ATV's. We always tow our 2.

I don't like camping. I don't like sleeping more or less outside. I don't like having to cook on vacation. I don't like having to walk someplace to shower and go potty (of course, in the dark, I've been known to go behind a bush to avoid the walk -- and Jason sneaking up behind me in his hockey mask!).

I've gone a couple of times. I wouldn't say it's bad, but I'd be in no rush to do it again....maybe in a camper, but not a tent.

My neighbors camp all the time. The plus side of it, it's way cheaper to camp than to stay at a hotel/motel. They take a ton of "vacations" over the course of the summer, whereas we mainly take one "big" vacation.

We love to camp as well. We do some primative camping with our cub scout troop, usually at least 3 times a year. We also enjoy just going to a KOA and setting up.....has he plus of the pool and playground.....our area KOA always has something going on around the holidays.....Labor Day they'll have watermelon races in the pool, scavenger hunts, pancake breakfast. Halloween they have hay rides and trick or treating.

The only thing I don't like is packing up all the stuff when it's time to go home.

You can, I can't. :rotfl: I don't think I could handle sleeping in a tent & commando touring the park all day. :rotfl: Plus, I'd really want air conditioning, storage, comfort. :)

no no no. I HATE camping. Or anything where your outside and cant get inside.

I would have died in medevil times, possibly up until Air Conditioning was invented.

The only way I would go camping is if all of the following were in tact:

A. My boyfriend invited me. (im single :) )
B. It was winter, and one of the coldest times of the year
C. My boyfriend was handy at chopping, bulding a fire and other things I want NOTHING to do with.

Id also go if it were anywhere up north or out west. Its just too darn hot to camp in Florida.
