My brother (and nephew) live in Newport News and we're thinking of driving to Disney. Just curious if anyone made the trip, and about how long it was. Is there much traffic on 95 heading south? Only been on 95 in the Northern US and there is usually always traffic. We're going in January, so it's not peak travel season, just hope there isn't a freak southern snow storm (don't mind driving in it, will just slow things down).

Did it years ago. There are 2 phases of the trip. Getting to 95, and going down 95. Mapquest says 12 hours from Newport News and that sounds about right. We traveled from Norfolk and sometimes we would take 2 days, other times one day. I do think that a January trip would include reasonable traffic except for major cities you pass thru during rush hour.

Take 58 to get to 95 South...and stay there until you get to route 4 basically.
Traffic areas might include parts of GA and then again maybe around Jacksonville, but shouldn't be anything too crazy.

Thanks for the thoughts. Figured traffic wouldn't be bad, but wasn't quite sure. 12 hours is a long drive, but it's cheaper (not just getting there, but once there being able to venture off Disney property for cheaper meals/snacks).

If your nephew is of driving age...it's a great ride for 2 drivers!

We have left from where we are in the late afternoon (via the Cape May - Lewes Ferry) and made it to Suffolk. Then, up and out at 5 a.m., and in WDW at 5 p.m.!

If it is just one driver, it's a little :crazy2:.

See the current thread on driving from Baltimore and subtract any comment about DC (and maybe the Autotrain, as it's about 1.6 hours north of the 66/95 interchange

No issues with drivers which is nice for us. There will be 4 adults and 1 child (nephew). We will take turns, someone driving most the night then someone else in the AM most likely. I'm sure the trip down will be full of excitement and go fast, the trip back may be long and boring.

Oh sorry no sympathy for the ride back! You have FOUR drivers...:faint:

What was the question again??? ;)
