Anyone concerned about the Coronavirus in WDW ?

Remember. The 2% mortality rate is in China. Not great healthcare there. That number will be much less,,especially once you factor in the west. Flu death rate is also higher in China North Korea etc.
This will pass.

While you may be correct it, along with the flu still isn't something I want to pass along to my family.

Just read a Korean Air flight attendant who worked flights out of LAX tested positive.

I don't know, there's a fair amount of people here that likely won't go to the hospital if they don't feel well to avoid unnecessary costs. And I had trouble getting in to see my GP a few weeks ago simply because I had a sinus infection (or maybe because I did and they just didn't want to waste time on me?). Either way, the US healthcare system has enough issues that things won't necessarily be handled as efficiently as they have the potential to.

Our hospitals don't have the beds to cover an outbreak. We'll be in the same position as China with having to build hospitals.

The key takeaway is that no one is suspected of contracting or has tested positive for coronavirus. Just doing this out of an abundance of caution.

But at some point, if we use an over abundance of caution no one can leave their homes. Did they even go to an area of Italy with cases?

We are going to have to find a balance between protecting peoples' health with not completely disrupting everyone's life or tanking the world economy which could be as equally devastating.

I'm sad to say we are reconsidering our Maui trip in two weeks. We are hearty travelers. I've been lucky to travel to some remote places and I really am not concerned about the virus. I am concerned by the reactions to it. We are leaving our adult/teenager behind for an anniversary trip. The hotel quarantine has me worried. What if our hotel is locked down and we can't come home as planned? I'm watching the situation at the hotel in the Canary Islands closely.

It would at least be better if it doesn't happen right now when flu season is still very active as that in itself adds a layer of burden to urgent care centers and hospitals.

And we’re a couple months away from exiting flu season. I say this having caught the flu this past weekend. Been working from home to avoid infecting people.

There are worse things then being trapped at a hotel in Maui. Make sure you have good views from your room.

How do you know it's not Corona? I am only half joking. They aren't actually testing people!

Let’s say I have Coronavirus. How would I even get tested for it? And why would doctors order a test for me since I haven’t been to any of the places with an outbreak?

They would have to rely on my symptoms. This is what China had to do as the PCR was taking too long to process.

Exactly. We have a trip planned to Hawaii at the end of next month so I’ve been paying attention to their news. Several of the hospitals in Hawaii have had to divert ambulances because they are filled to capacity with flu patients and people panicked about coronavirus.

You're right, but your assumptions are that there is no community spreading. What I am suggesting is, how do they even know that without actually testing people? I am assuming responsiveness to drug treatments and severity of illnesses being monitored, but I really don't know.

I checked both Walgreens and CVS online for N95 masks. Both are sold out. I find that fascinating.
We have very few at the hospital even. I had to go to two different floors to find some the other day when I was at clinical.

***ETA- Which were to be used by staff treating a patient with TB :scared:That is must more frightening IMO.

Here's the video where the medcram guy explains the change the Chinese did to determine whether folks had Coronavirus given the time lag on PCR testing.

My husband is flying to Milan, Italy tonight and as a precaution he looked for masks here locally in Atlanta, since there aren't any really available in Italy right now. He didn't find any.

Both sites suggested their only sold online. And they're both sold out.

Has he tried Home Depot or Lowes? They have mask for painting, and they do show N95 masks on their sites.
