i thought I broke my pinky toe and it turned out to be a broken foot-That took about a month to heal (and I am a middle age out of shape mom) So I'm guessing son will heal much more quickly. Is he wearing an air cast?
I broke my toe in high school...some 38 years ago....and the whole outside of my foot turned purple as well as my toe. It took about 2 months before I could wear shoes and about 4 months before it actually stopped hurting when I wore shoes. I had a doctor look at it and he said all we could do was tape the toe to try to keep it stable (so it wouldn't hurt).
I had run through the house barefoot and caught my toe on a corner of a wall. Every once in a while, if I bump my bare foot bad enough at home, it will hurt reallyreallyreally bad but it usually doesn't turn purple. I'm gonna guess that has something to do with the way it healed or how bad I broke it that first time.
I hope your oldest hasn't been hurt too badly and it doesn't take long before they are feeling much better.
I broke my pinky toe by walking around the house with no shoes and it caught on the corner of the wall as I was turning to go in another room.. It sure did hurt when it happened.. they taped it as well.. I remember it was a good month before it stopped hurting and every now and then when I would bump it, it would hurt.. that went on for many many months..
I've done it about ten times, maybe a few less... the first time, it took all summer to heal (I walked out of my bedroom and into a stepladder that had been there for ages). That was more than thirty years ago and I still remember two things. Three, really. First, I did go to the doctor and he 'set' it - gave me a shot of xylocaine and yanked it back into place. I went shopping and the painkiller wore off in the middle of a big store. Ouch! Then, the president of the company where I was working told my I couldn't wear flipflops because the slapping noise disturbed visitors - I remember explaining I couldn't wear shoes; and finally, my mom laying down the law and forcing me into "real" sandals for a wedding I was in But even then, more than two months later, and keeping in mind she was the one who left the stepladder there in the first place, it still HURT.
I don't know if it's the same but my youngest just broke the bone leading up to his pinky toe. Dr. said to wear a boot for a few weeks & it should be fine. The worst part is that we let him walk around for a week & 1/2 before taking him in. I thought he just sprained it because he never cried & while he said it hurt, he still walked & ran around like normal.
I don't know how because I broke that same bone a few years ago (also middle aged mom ) and it hurt like heck! It still bothers me sometimes but I think I broke it more in the middle of the bone & DS's is close to the toe.
Agony for about a week and unable to wear a shoe...lots of pain for a month and only able to wear certain shoes...pain when bumped for about 6 months...and still, years later, it hurts if it gets hit just "so."
I felt like a real wimp but the doctor said that the extremities have so many nerve endings that it's normal for the pain to be pretty bad. If I had needed to kick a soccer ball or something it probably would have been at least 6 weeks before that would have been possible.
I got a small fracture in one of my toes in college. I never let it heal correctly because with how far the walk was to class, I just could not get the hang of crutches. Anyway, I don't remember how long it took to heal, but it still gives me trouble from time to time (when it rains) about 18 years later.
I broke my big toe probably about a year and a half or so ago. There was a little "lip" to the garage at a friend's house that I didn't see and ran smack dab into the concrete. I was able to wear a shoe and walk fine, but could NOT put any pressure whatsoever on the top of the toe. Kneeling with foot facing down = pain, etc. Took at least about 6 months to completely heal.
Buddy Tape works great to stablize the toe...I could not wear it when I broke my toe, because I can't stand things between my toes.
that being said- it took a while to be able to wear certain shoes again but after a good mth, it seemed to be a lot less painful. I work 12 hour days on my feet and by the 6th hour, I was hobbling around...Motrin was a good friend as was good shoes!
I broke my pinky toe when my oldest son was 9 months old. I caught it on the side of a wall as I was packing for our vacation. I refused to cancel our vacay and spent the week hobbling around. My oldest son is now 9 years old and if I accidentally bump it it feels like I broke it all over again. Poor healing perhaps?
I broke my baby toe, and Like another poster, It took all summer to heal. I couldn't wear any closed toed shoes. when it finally got feeling better, I broke the baby toe on my other foot! Another couple months, before that one felt better!
I broke both of my pinky toes when i was a teenager and I just taped them to the next toe but I never slowed down I was a dancer and I remember still doing point with a broken toe
Bones heal in 6-8 weeks. If you continue to reinjure it, it will obviously take longer to heal. Protect it, and you'll feel better pretty quickly. Just remember to keep protecting it until it's fully healed, not just feeling better.
