We plan to have family pictures taken at the ocean while we are in FL. The photographer suggested Jetty Park near Cape Canaveral. Has anyone been there? Is it nice? We are going to spend the day there to swim and my BL would like to surf. Are the waves decent size and a nice view of the ocean or is this a small port area? The pics I've found on the internet show more of the park and campground than the beach.

Thanks for any info!

Jetty Park is located along the channel that connects to Port Canaveral. We were there this past April to watch a Titan 5 rocket launch from Cape Canaveral. The day we were there the waves were quite small but I'm sure this can vary. I have a few pictures on Photobucket at:

Thank you so much for posting the pictures. It looks very pretty! I really appreciate you posting.

Chrisann:

It is 65 miles from WDW. Take the Bee Line Expressway (FL 528) east to Port Canaveral. Exit at George King Blvd, take it to the end, goes right into Jetty Park.

If you are coming from Kissimmee I recommend going to Melbourne. It's alot less crowded and the waves are about the same size, it takes about an 45-hour to get there on 192 (you just take 192 til you get to the ocean). I didn't care for jetty park, it has changed over the years and has become very crowded and it's all fenced in. Also I remember swimming in the ocean with a shirt on and it came out brown because of all the tar from the cruise ships. It is a neat place by the port to see launches and cruise ships though.

We were @ Jetty Park beach area in June to watch rocket launch & take a quick "dip" in the ocean.

We had seen the park before from the deck of the DCL Wonder & thought it looked barren. Once we drove into the park, we found out it was less "scruby" than it appeared.

DS nearly fainted when he saw his first "natural" beach covered in seaweed. I hadn't realized that he had only seen well-groomed beaches in the past. The sand was very clean, free of litter & beach was sparsely occupied. Not alot of scenic dunes/sea oates if that's what you're looking for. The fishing jetty isn't exactly a photo op either. Perhaps down the other side (south)?

Friendly people, water was clear & warm. We plan on working in a beach day or 2 up north near Ponce Inlet/lighthouse area next trip.

Good luck.
