Anybody NOT a drinker?

I'm not a drinker either. Alcohol just makes me very sleepy...and with my job getting up at 5:00 am, I really don't need any help in the sleepy department.

Niether DH or I drink. Like the OP I just don't care for the taste of it. I found I can have just as good a time as my friends that drink. As long as someone drinks responsiblily I have no problem with it, but it isn't for us.

I don't drink. I have a few bottles with dust from 5+ years ago. I had them at DS's First Communion, and they're still there. Why did I ever bring them with me from FL? I don't miss it at all.

Not only do I not drink...I refuse to be around others who drink. I think it's a disgusting habit that hurts even the greatest of people.

Another non-drinker here - don't drink soda either.. The only things I drink are milk, coffee, and Boost..

I do have a confession to make though.. When I was in Florida last February and my brother took me to the Tiki Bar, I took a walk on the wild side and had a virgin bloody Mary.... :rotfl: They didn't have Boost, was too hot for coffee and figured they would toss me out if I asked for a glass of milk.. :teeth:

I don't...but then again I am only 20. I'll be turning 21 in March, and even when I will be legal I just don't see myself drinking. :confused3 I must be the only college kid on the face of the planet who doesn't drink...eh, so be it...it's just not my thing.

My DD, 23 doesn't drink either. Never did in college (or before). and she went to a "party school".
It's just not in her nature.

I don't drink, either. Had a few in college and before I got married (24 yrs ago), but not much if anything since. I married into a family of Irish alcoholics who have nearly all gone on the wagon and are celebrating many years of sobriety. Even my husband who was famous for his drinking in his single days, doesn't drink much at all.

I don't care for the taste. And I don't drink coffee or hot tea, but I do like iced tea with lemon.

I don't really like to drink anything except water. I don't care for it - not alcohol, coffee, tea, soda - none of it. I do like milkshakes, but consider that a dessert really. I have learned to drink an occasional glass of punch or cup of tea - even an occasional glass of wine or cup of latte just to give me SOMETHING to order or drink at parties.

I even prefer my water without lemon.

I don't drink alcohol.

Used to, a bit. But I've been blessed (cursed?) with an alcohol dehydrogenase deficiency, a common enzyme defect in Asians, that renders us unable to metabolize ethanol.

That means that we just get sick from the alcohol, before we get a buzz.

It's like an internal Antabuse reaction.

Anyway, DH used to drink on occasion. He quit when our DD completed the DARE program at school, and asked us if we were being hypocritical by telling HER not to drink, while we did so ourselves.

But we DO drink coffee!!!

I have the same problem with the deficiency - headache before buzz. But I've found that if I eat a good dinner with plenty of protein before I ingest the spirits, that I don't have any problems. Also, oddly enough, I can drink tequila, but not other hard liquors like vodka and rum.

Love wine and beer with dinner, but wine can give me a headache.

Love coffee, tea and cocoa.

Thought I would share with my fellow non-drinkers, something my mother said to me yesterday......(she does drink).....

'Oh when I was your age I thought it was virtuous not to drink too, you'll get over it'

!!!!!!

Can you believe that? I was so angry! How ridiculous to think that people who don't drink only do it so they can feel virtuous!

I rarely drink any alcohol. I think the last time I had some wine was about a year ago maybe longer. I love Coffee! I went to many weddings this summer and didn't have any alcohol. I don't know why but it has always gone right to my head, I can feel it as soon as I sip it. I guess my body is just really sensative. I'm the same way with pain medication, after I've had operations I beg them not to give me anything, I just don't like the feeling. When I was having my appendix attack after like 5 hours the surgeon convinced me to take a shot (needle) of something, and I have to admit it did help...I was loopy, pain free and ready to get up and dance! I HATE that feeling, I know other people like it, but I like to be in control.

The last time I had alcohol was before I turned 18 (legal drinking age in the UK).
I only drink water.
My BF has never touched alcohol - only water for him too.

Add me to the list for not drinknig alcohol or coffee because to me they just taste yucky! Alcohol and caffine also cause my migraines to act up!

I'm not sure how old you are or how old your mother is, but I'm 45, and DH is 49. My parents are in their 60's, and his are in their 70's. So far, none of us has "gotten over" the lack of desire to become a drinker. I guess we'd better all watch out for those 80's! :earseek:

No, you are not weird. I drink a little bit but not much. I don't really like the taste either!!

I'm not a drinker either. Now that the holidays are upon us, we have several X-mas dinners to attend. At the one last week, I ordered a chocolate martini, asked the waitress to make it light, she didn't, it was horrible. I had 2 sips and left it. The week before that we had a wine tasting dinner with all my dh's work friends/bosses. If you ever been to one, then you know they bombard you with diff. wines. Got sick to my stomach. Threw up in the bathroom and was shamed the whole night. Never again. Tonight we have another dinner, and I'm sticking with club soda....
Although a light cosmo isn't so bad....

I don't drink either. I also never tried smoking and I think coffee is the worst tasting thing I have ever tried.

Don't drink coffee--way too bitter for me. Can't drink beer or whiskey--food allergies.

As for the rest, well I like rum drinks w/ very sm amts of rum. But, DH had a problem b/f we met, so no more for me. I have to be his support beam here.

I'm a non drinker too. I don't like the taste or the after effects. I also think it's a waste of money.

I think there are quite a few of us around ;)
