Anybody ever...

This happens to me if I sleep on my back. I will get a "sleep paralysis" episode and hallucinate that there is someone in the room with me. I can't move or scream or anything. It's pretty scary. I solved the problem by sleeping on my side.

If I am over tired and fall asleep on my back I will usually wake up within 10 minutes from a nightmare. It only happens if I fall asleep on my back. Weird huh?

I grew up in a big old Victorian house that had been a funeral home at the turn of the century. My room was at the top of the stairs..the "parlor" was at the bottom of the stairs and this was the room they had used for visitation. I heard footsteps almost every night, and got to the point of ignoring it. My friends loved to stay the night with me because our house was "haunted". One night my parents had some friends over and they put me in the spare room so I wouldn't be bothered by the noise. I woke up to find a man wearing a trenchcoat and Fedora(hat) standing by my bed. I counted to three and screamed at the top of my lungs. When my mom turned the light on nothing was there. I never saw anything after that.
I do love hearing these stories, though... :)

Ugh, I have this happen too. Not so much any more but at our old house and when I lived at home with my parents.

Once, we were at a condo in Colorado skiing and I was sleeping on the top bunk with my sister on the bottom bunk and 2 friends in the room. I thought I saw one of my friends at the door beckoning me to follow her out the door. I jumped off the bed and went to the door where she was, and she disappered. I freaked and jumped back in bed. I wonder if I would have followed her out into the snow?

Also, DH and I were staying in a haunted house and I woke up to the lights on and a woman leaning over in my face. I screamed at her to leave me alone and she left. I slept with the covers over my head after that, somehow the lights went off.

But the "normal" times when I was asleep in my own bed were usually when I felt vulnerable at the time. Maybe you are a bit nervous to go on your trip?

Tell the ghost to go away! :teeth:

That's my thought too! If I were you before you go to bed just say out loud "Leave me alone tonight, I need to sleep"

Even if it isn't anything supernatural it just might help you sleep.

There is wiring in my house to do an alarm. Maybe I will get it hooked up. Even knowing this guy wasn't real I still needed to check all the doors and windows. Maybe the alarm would help me sleep better.

You have me intrigued about your story. Sure you don't want to share?

Ok here is my story...

When I was in the 6th grade I woke up & saw a guy (he looked to be a teenager) in my room. He was crouching down like he did not want me to see him. I sat up in bed & he stood up & walked out of my room. I followed him into the hall. As he started down the stairs, he turned to look at me & I asked, "Who are you?". Then he kept going. I was not scared because in my 11 year old mind I was thinking, "This must be some relative that's staying with us that mom & dad forgot to tell me about." Really, that's what I was thinking.

I watched him go down the stairs & into the living room. Then I went across the hall into my parents room. I woke them up & said, "Mom, dad...I saw a guy in my room". My mom proceeded to tell me that I'd been dreaming. THEN, we all heard the screen door & front door shut. She started yelling at my father, "She really did see someone!" My father grabbed some club/nightstick he used to have & ran downstairs.

The police came & got all the fingerprints they could. They found a window open in the kitchen. They never told us that they caught the guy but my mom always thought they did but did not want to tell us because it was a minor. They could tell that because of my description & that he had small handprints. The next day or two, I got called into the principal's office to look thru yearbooks to see if I could identify the intruder.

Word got around the neighborhood & a week or two after this happened a mom who lived a block away called my mom to hear the whole story. She said that not too long before, one night her daughter had woken up screaming that she'd seen someone in her room. Her parents told her she'd been dreaming. Well, this mom said that after hearing our story, she realized her daughter hadn't been dreaming.

It still creeps me out to think about it.

My friend has that happen to her too. Only the thing she sees is sitting on her bed, and she can actually feel the bed moving as it sits down.

And on another occasion, it was hovering over her.

It scared the crap out of ME!!!

O wow, wow, wow..that is all I can say as I read your Post!!! Thank you for sharing because I too, was curious as other posters were and I am so glad you and the neighbor's child are fine and that nothing did happen to either of you!!!
This shows just how innocent our kids are..to just simply figure that it was a relative staying overnight. Wow, amazing!!
Well I certainly hope you are okay with having to re-live this tonight!
Thanks and :grouphug:

Oh, I love threads like this. popcorn::

Yes, this has happend to me more than once. Haven't had it happen in a long time.

One time I can remember clear as if it just happend, sleeping and feeling somebody walk up the stairs, come into my room, stand by my bed. I couldn't move or speak. A day later, my mom had the same thing happen to her. I was living at home at the time.

daisyduck123 - thanks for sharing your story. I think having a real person in my room would definately be freakier that the dream version that is visiting me.
