Anybody else NOT text???

Yes, I text and I'm over 40. I was at a work meeting where some consultant came and talked about the "younger" generation. The youngsters complained that they can tell the age of someone (usually over 40) because they are the ones calling and leaving voicemail messages and NO ONE does that anymore.:goodvibes

I feel exactly the same way! Besides, I can call and leave someone a message a lot quicker than I can type it out in a text.

EXACTLY, that is what I am thinking. I have lots to say..it would take me forever and a day to type one text

I used to feel the same way. I am actually pretty anti-technology- I think it is growning so fast and it's sad when I see kids jump into a parents car & automatically start texting their friends instead of interacting w/ their families. DH got a texting plan on my new phone so I reluctantly texted back a few people - and honestly, it saves me a LOT of time. I have a lot of mom friends who I used to have to call or who called me about friends coming over to play, what time is cub scouts, etc, etc. It is much faster to text each other w/ the needed brief information than to chat on the phone. When my kids are older I think it will be a good way for them to contact me about picking them up, etc.

OP - I'm glad to know I am not alone! I never text and it irritates me when I get them. When my brother in law first got his Iphone he was text crazy - after I never responded he finally got the message. My friends can't believe I dont' text or worse I don't tweet, I don't get the twitter thing - I only recently fell in love with facebook (I'm way behind the times)

Huh! I am over fifty and I'm still 'with it'. I have my pager and I know how to use a fax machine.

Strangely, I have not be paged for a long time.

Am I the only one in the world who doesn't text? I have a cell phone, that is with me all the time, yet I refuse to pay extra for texting? Seriously though, why do I need to text? If I have to talk to somebody then I call them, and if they are not available I leave a message on voice mail:confused3
For me its the added expense on my cell phone..but I really dont find a need:confused3

No texting here either. :) I'd much rather call and chat.

There are times when it's impossible to call and chat and texting is way easier. Why should I call my DH at work and bother him when I can just send him a text to read at his convenience that says, "Stop at Walmart and bring home some milk".

Plus Saturday night we were at the Big 12 Championship game (HOOK EM!!) and my Aunt (who's over 50) sent me a text to ask me if I was at the game. No way could I have heard her if she had called me on the phone.

I'm also not a "call and chat" person....I would much rather send a text and be done with it.

Plus, it comes in handy when my teenagers are out. I can send a text to them saying "ETA" and soon I get a text back telling me when they will be home and their friends don't know they are talking to their mom.

I hate when people leave me voicemail....takes too much time to call the voicemail, listen to the message...blah blah blah...just send me a freaking text!

None here either! If I need to tell you something I'll call you!

My cell phone is so old that it CAN'T text. All it does is send and make calls (I have Tracfone...merely for emergencies).

I was a little nervous yesterday, as we had a snowstorm and my college sends out texts for closings and delays. Ever since I read that at the beginning of the semester, I thought, "Hope they still have it posted on the local news stations for those of us that don't text..."

:thumbsup2 I find it annoying but I find cell phones annoying too! When DD is off on her own, I'm getting one of those tracfones just for emergencies.

I don't have a texting plan on my cell. To be quite honest, I've considered getting rid of my cell phone because I don't like talking on it, but with my kids I like to be accessible at all times.

My dh uses his cell phone and receives texts frequently. He teaches at a university and texting/email is his students' preferred means of communication. I really don't like the fact that his cell phone is always on (date night, vacations, etc) and I think that it prevents him from having downtime away from work. He is always extremely stressed at the end of every semester (like right now) and I wish that he would just turn the darn thing off to give him a break.

For a long time, I didn't text either. However, did you know that after 9/11 cell phone calls didn't go through because the system was so overloaded. But, text messages DID.

Lots of times I have been in places where my cell phone would not work, but my text messages would come through. I consider knowing how to text a safety feature.

If you don't know how to text, just find anybody age 16-21 and they can show you how. It's really not that complicated.

Our DD is away at college. The phone calls are few and far between -- but the text messages come through loud and clear.

So I call and leave a message. If you can't be bothered to listen to it, it isn't my problem. :goodvibes

Exactly...where I go trail riding with my horse the signal is weak, but I can usually text. That way if I'm out longer than normal I can text my DH to let him know that I'm still ok and not to worry.

I know how to text. I just don't care to. :)

Exactly my point. People don't need to text every day; but people should at least comfortably know how to send a text message. During major storms home phones don't work and cell service is often not reliable. Knowing how to text is important and could be a lifesaver.

I don't text. I have an old plan that doesn't have texting. The funny thing is that I sell cell phones. I know how but just choose not to.

I didn't used to...I had never done it until recently. I still think it's silly to have a whole conversation that way- but for just a quick, 2 second message, it's great- especially for me because I hate making phonecalls. I hate typing on a phone too, and I'm slow at it, but if I just want to let someone know where to meet me or I just need a yes or no answer and not chitchat, it's perfect. When I flew to NYC in August, my boyfriend sent me a little "Have a nice time!" text as soon as I was in the baggage claim. It made me smile. :)

Gosh - I hate the cell phone... LOL! I have one for emergency, but I don't text at all and I rarely make calls. I went with a Tracfone so I could pay as I go.
